  1. My very first find ever had a TB in it & I did not know about it nor would I have knew what to do with it if I had of taken it. I have since thought about going back to get it & helping it on is way. This would probably be a goof idea because this TB is way off course of what the owner ask for. Right now it is in a remote rural area S. IL & the owner asks that it not leave the MA or NH area. I doubt that I can get it back home but maybe I could help it get started back that way.
  2. Hmmm, a remote controled potato mortar?? No response yet I am very interested. What do we have in the photo?
  3. I am looking for a PDA & th emore I learn about them The more that I think I would use it for other things. I want a color screen with an mp3 player in it but I want it to be user friendly. Any one know about the Palm TX?
  4. I sent a PQ to my GPS using GSAK. The file had 500 waypoints but I only received less that 50 of them to my GPS. I have checked & I think I have all of the filters turned off. Can anyone help?
  5. I have sent the waypoints to my GPS but it did not send them all. I have checked & I think that I have the filter turned off but it only sent a little less that ½ of them from the PQ. Where can I check the memory on my GPS maybe it is full 7 will not hold any more. I have looked in the Setup window & any other place that I can think that may have the storage/memory level but I don’t find it. Can any one tell me where to check the memory available on a Legend HCx?
  6. I will do that if I need to. I think I found where to send them at now but I can't get the setup right for the communication port. I am using a HCx connected with a USB cable. What should be in the com. port space in setup?
  7. Ok I have read every thing that I can find on PQs & I have found the answer to most of my questions but I still cant find how do I send the waypoints to my GPS. I am using GSAK & I have the info opened in my computer but I don’t know what to do next. Also what is the best way to take along all of the info such as past logs & hints with out printing each one individual & with out spending a fortune on a palm pilot that I would not know how to use?
  8. Thank you for the info. I sent him an email 3 days ago & sill nothing!!!!!!!!
  9. I am not interested in density or #s. I just want a few quality hunts.
  10. I am wanting to know about hiding things in the Shawnee National Forest. This is a 270,000 acre area that covers most of S. IL. I am new to this sport & I have found that most of the hides in my area are P&G. I am interested in making a few hides that are more of a challenge but I need to know what the local USFS administration has to say about it.
  11. I live in a very small town in a rural area of S. IL. I my zip code is 62844. I have a couple of questions about hiding my cache.
  12. I seriously doubt that it was a Bear trap! It was more than likely a much smaller trap one for catching raccoon, fox, coyote or other small game. If this is so it would not have done any serious damage even to a child. How ever it could cause a person to hurt himself from the surprise. I fit was indeed a legitimate wild game set as I suspect the owner of the set defiantly appreciates what you did. Now he can move his trap instead of buying a new one or spending hours looking for where someone through it. This is good for everyone he is not mad about loosing his trap & maybe he will learn something from this & pick his spots better next time. As your description of the set don’t sound like it would have caught much anyway. Fur trapping is a diying art & I commend any one willing to spend enough time & effort to maintain a trap line in this modern time. With the high cost all expenses & the almost nothing value of pelts it is a more expensive hobby than Geocaching.
  13. There is no ban on caches on USFS property. In fact the USFS has been fairly geocaching friendly. There are specific national forests that might have specific regulations, or one of the local administrators may not be geocaching friendly, but overall, it's OK to place geocaches in national forests. That there are no caches in Shawnee NF might mean that either the local administration doesn't allow them, or that the locals just never thought to place a cache there. Check with your local reviewer regarding the status of Shawnee with regards to geocaching. You may just have found a great area that is cache free. National Parks and NPS lands are a different story. The NPS has had a long standing ban, but lately the stance seems to be softening. How that pans out remains to be seen. Well I will go back & reread the rules. After he told me that I read them & my interruption was USFS property of all kinds were off limits. How do I contact local reviewer?
  14. Thanks for all of the good input. I have every intention of sticking with it for the long haul. "Wabash-riverrat? Hmm, Indiana or Illinois?" I am in IL. & every thing around me is a rural area. That is sort of part of the problem I think. As for parking & walking to more that one hide at a time that would take a couple of days because they are several miles apart & if you were to be seen walking around town with a GPS in your hand people would think your had lost your mind. Most would not know what it was & the others would think you were crazy because you can literally see from one side of town to the other around here. "So hang in there, if you know good places to hike and there are no caches in that area, place some of your own for others who might be wanting to go hiking too." One of the greatest places to hike in the Mid West is the Shawnee National Forest. It covers several thousand acres in S. IL. As I first started looking for caches on the web I could not figure out why no one was utilizing this great area. So planed to make a few of my own & as I started to tell my Son about where we were going to put them he said Dad you can’t do that because it is USFS property. It is a good thing that he is paying attention.
  15. When I first heard about Geocaching I was told what good exercise it was & how it was such a good way to spend time outdoors with my kids. Now that we have started look for places to hunt around our area it seams that most all of them are within a few feet of the road. I am a person that believes any time spent with you kids is time well spent but we was hoping to find this more of a physical challenge rather that a ride in the truck. After reading several other peoples profile if looks to me that most of you find the larger # of caches found in a day the better.
  16. We are very new to this sport but even before our first attempt I though it was all about the hunt. How ever I do find it interesting to read the log & try to see who left what. We always list what we left & don’t take any thing unless it is some thing we want. It may be gold to someone else.
