  1. OK. I spent alot of time talking about this, and I think sept 13th is a little too close for people to plan for it. Sept. 27th. Southaven Park. I'll get the permit tmr, and post the vent right away. This park is minutes from my house and should make it very easy for me to hide a few more caches here. I would also like some one else to hide a few. That way I can have some fun finding them. WRR, Cat-in-the-Hat, M&M, RPA, are just a few geocachers that are local to the area and have hidden excellent caches around here. I'll keep you posted. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Because now I am Lost.
  2. Regarding the LI cache event: I scoped out Heckscher Park today and I don't think this is the best place for an event. The park is big but there seems to be a lack of good trails and woods to hide a lot of caches. At this point I'm looking at Southaven Park. Again this is a huge park that is easy to get to. It's heavily wooded with lots of great trails, canooing, kayaking, horseback riding and lots of other stuff. I'm reluctant to have one out out Belmont or the Nassau/Suffolk area simply because it is too far for me to really set up. I'll keep you posted... 4. Kings Park Psychiatric Cache unfortunately can not be approved. When I hid the cache I hiked through an area that did not have any Do Not Enter or No Trespassing signs. But apparently the grounds are completely off limits. If anyone knows otherwise please advise. 5. Excellent. A long Island Chapter of NYCMAGG. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Because now I am Lost.
  6. Heckscher has a few caches already. Plus several new ones will be added for the event. That way they'll be new to everyone that attends. Plus Heckscher is more central to all of the Island. Will post event cache this evening. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Because now I am Lost.
  7. Why if you're from Deer Park Does your group concentrate on NYC? Just wondering. NYGO is a great group which I am happy to be a member of. But all there events are way upstate. Personaly I would like to see a group dedicated mainly to LI. But thats just me. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. 8. Wow...now i'm rrrrrreally freaked out! I'm reading http://www.hauntedlongisland.com/kings.htm Today, yes just today, we were caching on the north shore. We did five caches aound the Sunken Meadow area. Durring our trip we happened across the KPPC. Not knowing what it was at first we were intrigued and a little creeped out. When we realized what it was we just had to hide a cache hear. Now I came home and start reading about your idea for the haunted places caches ... go to wed site "HauntedLongisland.com" and read that the ward that I was just at is in fact HAUNTED! So there you go, part 1 of L.I. Haunted Caches is in place. I'll be sleeping with the lights on tonight! Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Because now I am Lost.
  9. Muslickz. Read about your idea for the LI Legend caches. Great idea. I'm in Mid Suffolk area. Very close to Patchogue. Never heard of the Hanging tree. By the By... if anyone whats to contact me about an event or to meet for coffe or whatever... email addres: jmbellacache @aol.com AIM screen name: GeoCacheLI If you have a Nextel my private ID: 173*61*9920 Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. 10. Lets start with a more informal group. LIGO? Maybe a small webpage. I'll try and remember to call Heckscher Tommorrow (unless someone beats me to it) and see about booking an event. Nothing crazy, a little food and some caches for the day. Heckscher is a nice big park and easy to get to from anywhere. Mid Sept. Should be enough time to put it all together. How's Sept. 13th sound? Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Because now I am Lost.
  11. Conrats! We'll understand and forgive you if you don't show up. And yes, Queens is part of LI> Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Because now I am Lost.
  12. Ok. Icalled Connetquot, they do not allow picnics. How about Heckscher?
  13. I like Sunken Meadow. Or Heckscher State Park. I looked into Connetquot but they do not allow picnics. Heckscher does.
  14. Ok. I'm going to just go for it here. One event cache coming up. I'm thinking Sept. 13th. Whatta ya think? It's a sat. Rain date Sept. 14. Connetquot River State Park. Nice and central, nice & big. I wouldn't mind Eisenhower Park, but we can't forget about the geocachers in eastern suffolk. I'll contact the park, everyone bring there own food & drinks. We'll need some people to help hide a few caches. Wow, I'm a geek. Whatever. I'm having fun.
  15. It's definately time for a LI event. Connetquot River State Park is one of the larger parks on LI, And seems dead center of the Island. How about early Sept? I was also wondering if anyone would be interested in a Long Island Geocaching Organization? LIGO?
  16. Bellport LI, NY. Found over 60 caches in a little over 1 month. I'm affraid I just might be a geogeek. Would love to set up a LI event. Anyone interested? Also...how about Paintball/geocaching?
  17. How 'bout a hiking stick that converts to a machete for those hard to bushwack caches.
  18. How 'bout a hiking stick that converts to a machete for those really hard to bushwack caches.
  19. We use our Nextels. Comes in handy in high traffic area's. One of us can hang back on the main trail and watch for muggles. Might consider getting a 2 way if I knew other cachers were on them.
  20. Now you're talking. I like the capture the flag twist. Each team of say 10 or 15 players hides several caches. Then gives the coords to the other team. Only after a team has found all the caches can they capture the flag of the opposing team. What ever team captures the flag first wins. Some players hang back to defend the caches and the flag, some go on the offensive to find the other teams caches & flag. Wow! I'm going to go buy a paintball gun right now. As far as damage to the GPS, I think it could withstand a hit from a paintball. As far as the actual paint, probably a leather pouch, like a cell phone pouch sould do the trick.
  21. I took this picture while geocaching on Long Island. Yes, I was really that close. I still can't believe I got this shot. In some areas of Long Island the deer are so used to people they will eat right out of your hand. I've done it, it's an amazing exprience.
