    Sad News

Very sad news. Enjoyed the few caches of his I found. Always a nice hike or a great view. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in Peace Bill.
  2. Very inspiring to say the least. Each player even used a Garmin 60CS.
  3. Use both. I keep my m5 in the car and use it for driving directions from cache to cache. I also DL the cache pages via GSAK to the M5. Then use your etrex while on your actual cache hunt. You can find all the software you need to set up your equipment here. Have fun.
  4. I'll start printing shipping labels Monday night. (Maybe even a few tomorrow night if I have time.) They'll probably all be in the mail no later than Wed.
  5. FINALLY. I haven't gotten an answer as to why these took so long other than them telling me the new mint too longer. I will say the quality is better. The numbers are lazer engraved so now they're easy to read.
  6. Just got an email from the mint. They will be sent in about a week and a half.
  7. Right on top of the cache. Can't really come up with a good enough reason to intentionally take an inaccurate reading. There's plenty of creative ways to make a cache challenging without taking bogus coords. The only time I'll take a WP away from the cache is if I get better accuracy with the GPS a few feet away. In that case I'll stand where I have the strongest signal, 10 - 20 feet or whatever, then manually make adjustments to the coords until they are spot on. Then I'll walk about 50 feet away and approach the cache from a few different angles. When the gizmo consistently reads single digits at the cache I'm done. People appreciate accurate coords.
  8. Most Esteemed First Finder. I saw this first down around Jax. After GWIII, I'm sure it spread to other parts of the country. Most of the time I've seen it written simply as "MEFF!!!" or some varient. I like it better than the bland "FTF." You can pronounce "meff." Try pronouncing "ftf" and you sound like Bill the Cat. That's pretty cool. I think I'll start using that.
  9. Personally, I like cachein in the slet rain.
  10. As I've been accused of re-opening the thread for the purpose of allowing harrassment of MadOtter, I do feel an extra obligation to moderate the thread fairly on all sides of the discussion. Once again, I wish to point out that MadOtter is not in a position to respond right now. He would not be able to apologize publicly even if moved to do so. Meaning ... his posting privileges have been temporarily suspended? A bit of a timeout? Meaning Keystone locked him in the basement and chained him to the wall where hamsters are now chewing his lower extremities.
  11. Hey, unhand my travel bug!! It's not a geocoin ya know, so don't use it like a rock. What?
  12. Yes, there is one thing left for Otter to say. We're still wait for that apology for the offensive remarks. Usually I can let things go but I don't think I'm alone in saying that this is not something that any of us can let slide. Most geocoins are trackable and as such should be allowed to travel from cache to cache much like travel bugs do. (just wanted to stay on topic) I understand. Do you think this person cares? Why are you wasting your angst and effort on someone who probably doesn't even understand the impact of what they are saying? The irony is that he probably sleeps better at night then the rest of us. You have better things to do than worrying about this joker. edit: missing word Unfortunately, I'm afraid you're right. I'll just have another scotch and stop worrying about it.
  13. Well, she's actually a travel bug so you could log her if you want. But you can't take her home.
  14. Just remember, once you're a premium member, you can never get out. If you try and cancel your membership Jeremy has Keystone put a horses head in your bed. That's just the first warning. After that if you still try and get out, he comes to you home himself, In your bedroom where your wife sleeps! Where your children come and play with their toys.
  15. Travel-Bugs are not swag/trade items, you may take one without leaving anything. Naturally, you CAN choose to trade one TB for another, but it is in no way a requirement. Just be aware of the goal(s) of the particular bug you wish to take and be sure to log the bugs movement online... Agreed. Since the purpose of a travel bug to, well, travel, It's actually good form to grab one from a cache if your intention is to help it toward it's goal.
  16. I don't think you should log that as a find, but if it is a 1/1, you SHOULD contact the owner, maybe even do a "needs Maintenance" log so that an admin becomes aware of it. By definition that should NOT be a 1/1, especially the terrain part. A true "1" terrain is supposed to be such that a person in a wheelchair could grab it from the chair, which it sounds like is certainly not the case here. This is why there are very few "1"s out there but a lot of "1.5"s. If the person even had it as a 1.5 I'd say the height thing is OK (though not too nice to short people; I'm average to shortish in height so I feel for you), but that definitely should not be a "1/1". I have to agree that ant infestation isn't a good enough reason. This is an outdoors game and ants, ticks, chiggers, snakes, spiders, bears and other wildlife are part of the experience. If one or more of these things prevent you from finding the cache, it's a DNF. My personal rule of thumb is: If my boots hit the ground and I don't find the cache I log a DNF, no matter what the reason.
  17. WOW that one cute kid! Congratulation!!! Best wishes to you all.

  19. I'm having trouble letting that one go too. If you're going to post on these boards and be opinionated that's fine. However, you'll have to grow thicker skin instead of resorting to personal attacks. Stick with the issues of the topic and don't make it personal. There's never an excuse for that.
  20. The thing is Otter, no one personally attacked you. Comments were made strictly regarding your statement. Sure, some were sarcastic but they weren't personal. To call someone stupid or retarded was unwarranted and extreme. It's very possible to disagree with someone without getting personal. I think you owe a couple of people here an apology to say the least. That's just my opinion.
  21. Really Good day today: 4 Tracking time coins. (One of the nicest coins in my collection) 1 Absolute Caching coin 1 2006 Compass Rose (it sparkles! Really pretty coin) and.. I was humbled to receive a Groundspeak Volunteer coin today from our local cache Approver. An amazingly kind gesture. Thanks.
  22. Thank you, Flying Monster of Spaghetti.
  23. I'd like to think that personal attacks wouldn't be tolerated but his posts calling Jamie stupid and sho99er a retard (which is offensive on multiple levels) is still sitting there and he's still posting. He's got to go. And this topic is usless too.
