  1. Hi, I just wondered if anyone had any stories of Geocaches put in locations that were dumb, inappropriate, etc. If nothing else it would offer guidelines to prospective cache placers! Dogastus.
  2. I always have my camera with me when I'm out Geocaching. I find it the perfect excuse for hanging around an area. I used to be self-conscious taking pictures, but looking for a cache can feel much more embarrassing! Dogastus.
  3. Anyone know of a list of Waypoints of Indian Restaurants? Now that's something I would REALLY use! Dogastus.
  4. Garmin Legend. I'm new to this game so don't have anything to compare it with. Works great, I love being able to record my tracks and then download to Fugawi so I can see where I've been! Dogastus.
  5. Thanks for the comments, I will take that as a 'no' then! Hopefully I will get up there some time and be able to log it for myself. Dogastus.
  6. Hi, A friend of mine lives very close to a Virtual Cache and I wondered if it would valid to get her to visit the cache and get the answers to the questions which I would then log. It is 400 miles away from here, so a long way for me to go in person. Dogastus.
  7. I think the answer to that is 'yes'. Take a look through the accessories on this website and you will see the Fugawi stuff listed there. Nigel
  8. I have just got into Geocaching and bought the Fugawi s/w metioned when I bought my etrex. It works brilliantly and I highly recommend it. Of course, I haven't compared it with any of the other offerings, but it did seem to be good value. I wish it had 1:25,000 scale maps as well, but that is being greedy! Nigel
  9. I believe it comes from the name of a pygmy tribe that lived in long grassland. They used to spend a lot of time jumping up and shouting something, but I have long since forgotten what they shouted Nigel
  10. I'm very new to this and found my first 2 caches last Saturday. What I found with both of them was that they were wet inside. So I decided that it would be friendly, in the future, to bring along some 'maintenance' items. So I would bring some tissues or kitchen towel to dry out the cache, some poly zipper bags to help keep the contents dryer, and some spare pens so I could leave one if there wasn't one. I think if everyone helped in maintaining any caches they find, it would make for a better experience for future finders. Nigel
  11. I have the Fugawi software linked to my GPSr and have the location pointer indicating the right thing from data being sent from the GPSr. Is it possible to have the displayed map automatically scroll as my location changes? I haven't been on a drive to test it, but I assume it doesn't with how I have it set up because the map doesn't get centred on my current location - I have to manually scroll around the map to find it. Thanks for any help, Nigel
  12. Congrats, quills, I found my first cache today too! I didn't have to go far, it was only .7 mile from my home. Nigel
  13. Thanks for the reply, Utopia sounds like just what I was looking for. I will wait for your email. Thanks again, Nigel.
  14. Hi, I've just got my etrex legend and some Fugawi software. Unfortunately my PC's serial port seems to be u/s as there is no comms to the etrext. I made it work ok on my work's computer so I think I'm doing all the right things! Anyway, in the absence of a serial connection right now, I wondered if there was an easy way to get waypoint info transferred from the Geocache website to my Fugawi maps? I have EasyGPS, is there a way through that I could use? I see there is an import function on the Fugawi, but it expects something like a comma delimited format, whereas the .loc file format looks a bit binary to me! Thanks for any help, Nigel.
  15. I came by Geocaching in a rather roundabout way. I was thinking about buying a small digital stills camera as a "take anywhere" when I didn't want to lug around my D30 digital SLR. I was looking at people's comments on the Canon S400 and found a guy that used one to take pictures during his 3 month stay in Antarctica - a fascinating write-up. Well he happened to mention that he had left a geocache in there and I wondered what it was. He included a link to this site and now I'm hooked! Nigel
