  1. Yup looked through there -- their numbers go up to the 6000's and my BM is 7300.................... thanks !
  2. Found what appears to be a "brand new" benchmark - not a scratch on it... bright metal. Can't find the BM number...data sheet, etc. Says Los Angeles County DPW on it... any help? I'd like to log it in and I can't seem to figure that out either. Have the GPS coordinates though... any help is appreciated.

    I'm done

I've spent TONS of money making caches, buying a GPS, coins, etc. I have made some nice caches with great coins, FTF prizes, etc. All I ask is that the finder trades equally, i.e., coin for coin -- yet now I have a new cache pillaged with NOTHING left, not even a stupid plastic alien trinket. I'm done.... it's not fun nor is it fair --- i play by the rules why can't everyone else? In fact I feel COMPELLED to leave much MORE than I take.... My caches are premium member caches only --- I did email the pillager and ask that if they cannot play by the rules to refrain from seeking my caches but I doubt that's going to do any good....
  4. Red skulls should be painted on all caches, just to make muggles wtf. If the tag is face down, no one can see it -- my cache looks like a lot -- well it IS a wooden log with a hollowed out part -- the log splits to reveal the cache contents. I can't get the photos to post otherwise I'd have photos of it up so you can see what I'm talking about. My cache is a perfect piece of firewood and I don't want someone out scaping for firewood to pick it up and throw it in the fire. Maybe if it had a mark on it that would make someone think twice about burning it... that was my point. Your comment was completely unnecessary, troll.
  5. OK EWWW!! I could have gone all day without seeing that!! My goal each hide is to find a BETTER place and hide the cache BETTER, more challenging, etc. With each hide I am finding that hiding does take practice so I would hope that everyone would cut a noob some slack on their first few hides. I plan on rehabbing my first few eventually and making them much better. I see nothing wrong with a well hidden micro but I wouldn't specifically go on a day of caching to find just micros. There be my 2 cents.
  6. What about gnats? We went up to the mountains today and used bug spray but the gnats will went in my eyes, ears, I think I inadvertently ate about 100 of them..... The gnats don't bite but they are ANNOYING as hell and it's quite disgusting to have them flying up her nose constantly.... help please? We tried Deet and this other stuff that smelled and acted just like Deet...... Bekka
  7. Not as sad as your incident but, while I was signing into a micro, unbeknownst to me, my dog was chewing on the cap of the film canister that I had left on the ground. The one saving grace was that they had a decoy film canister nearby so I used it's cap to replace the chewed up cap. Went home and emailed the CO right away with profuse apologies. They were wonderful about it because they had a dog too. Sorry but I think that this is really funny ---- My dog would do the same thing given the chance.
  8. I have made a similar cache but smaller. My biggest fear is someone will pick it up for FIREWOOD so we're planning on hiding it well away from an area that would warrant such a disaster. I've also painted a red skull on it which I will place face down just in case someone accidentally picks it up they'll know that it's "special" in some way.
  9. A thousand thanks for the info..... Bekka
  10. I've read a bit about trackables. However I didn't see anything specifically addressing a trackable that I make myself -- not through a minting company, etc., nor did I find anything in the forums with a SEARCH. Or maybe I just didn't get that far -- quite possible since my attention span is next to nothing at the moment so please excuse my ignorance and/or repeat question. If I were to create my own trackable say out of brass or sterling -- how would I assign tracking numbers to it? Is there existing software to track my coin or would I need to approach one of these sites to have them assign a series of numbers to me for a fee? My husband is a jeweler and we are thinking about possibly creating a trackable item -- possibly a coin but maybe a key fob or token of some kind --- We are not looking to produce thousands of these things but a few limited edition items that will be fun, different and collectible. Any assistance or point in the right direction is greatly appreciated. Bekka
  11. I bought a very nice plastic thermos at a flea market yesterday for $1.00. Mouth opening is about 4" around so it's a good size.....
  12. This will be my 5th cache FTF price: My Webpage My Webpage It's weird and quirky -- I doubt anyone in their right mind would actually wear it but I thought it was really cool and fun. I found it at a flea market yesterday. It may give someone a quick initial jolt of excitement since it really does look like real money at first glance. Is it too hokey? You be the judge!!! The last few of my caches have had sterling silver rings in them for the FTF (husband is a jeweler). Bekka aka silver skull
  13. Have you been watching us? We cache with our kids, and that pretty well sums up our experience. They don't like to hike much, and tend to get cranky if we try to do more than 2 or 3 caches at a time. The swag is at least one little incentive to keep them going. We don't *need* good swag, nor do they, but they enjoy poking around in all the goodies, and almost always find something that they want to trade for. What's funny to me is what they choose sometimes. They'll bypass what I think looks neat for a shiny rock, or a bead or something. My older daughter really likes foreign coins. They have also snagged a few old golf balls. Funny what they consider to be treasure sometimes! I'm new but I'm still going to comment heh. I don't have children, I am 46 years old. I would have LOVED to go with my parents (or I should say parent --- singular) and do something like geocaching when I was a kid. I can see where it would be exciting just to FIND the cache and a definite bonus if there was something really neat inside. But I'm the type (and always have been) who gives more than I receive or would rather give than receive. I have left some neat stuff and I have taken it upon myself to "maintain" (if needed) the few caches I have found . I haven't taken anything... not yet ... and if I do I will probably fill up the cache with every piece of swag/trinket that I had on me so I would be sure that I traded equally. Really - who's to say what's an equal trade? A $5 gift card to Starbucks is worth nothing to a 5 year old kid but a super mario action figure that was in the $1.00 bin at Wal Mart is worth a million bucks to that same kid. I found a belt buckle at a flea market yesterday -- it looks exactly like a roll of 100 dollar bills and it is HYSTERICAL!! It's quirky, never seen anything like it before.... no one in their right mind would probably wear the thing..... It is going to be my FTF prize for my next cache..... Personally I have started this hobby or sport to get out of the house --- i love hiking and finding caches along the way makes it even more fun. The other day we saw a bob cat which was just the coolest thing. I agree that people should have some kind of etiquette with the contents of the caches, i.e., don't swipe all the good stuff all at once, don't leave offensive material in the cache -- .... but even adults will act like spoiled children sometimes.
  14. Hi -- thanks but don't want to DELETE the favorite -- I want the GPS coordinates for the favorite.
  15. Hid a cache today and added to my favorites to save coordinates. I cannot figure out how to get coordinates out of favorites. I DL the file from the unit and opened in excel but the coordinates are no where near where I was at - please help -- thanks Bekka
  16. How about a thermos? Aren't they water tight? Some are fairly large --- I may look at the local flea market for one to give it a try -- It may prove to be a good economic container -- how much could someone want for a USED thermos?
  17. OMG LOVE the cemetery -- and is that a TRAIN? Brilliant! The neatest thing I've found around here is a bunch of old tin cans. I think I have to travel farther.
  18. Hi Bekka! Is your jacket fur real or synthetic? My concern would be less on the container being munched on by predators, and more on how well it's going to handle inclimate weather. Will it rot? Will it mildew? I've got a Tandy Leather store near me. I'm kinda liking your idea, so I may have to purchase a real and a faux fur and give them a few weeks outside just to see what happens. Hi -- fur is real -- I'm sure once it gets wet the fur will harden a bit and it will eventually fall completely apart. I may try to find a spot that will be sheltered from weather. I had a pair of boots (LOVED LOVED these boots) that were made of cow and the maker left the hair on--- jersey cow so they were "hairy" and black and white (ok am I strange or what??) --- I had them for quite a few years in my closet and pulled them out one day -- ALL of the hair had fallen out and the boots had been sequestered in the closet! It was weird and creepy and I immediately threw them away. LOL I would try both since you're not purchasing a lot of either. I have some synthetic fur that I will try next. I have a beaver pelt also (I used to make teddy bears) -- its HUGE and I could share some of it with you if you want to give it a try?? Send me a mailing address if you want a piece of it. The beaver (or so I'm told that's what it is) should be more water resistant than the rabbit.
  19. Now that makes perfect sense. Isn't this whole "sport" kind of personal adventure anyway? I mean the basic "noodles" are there but the flavorings are added by individuals to create the fun, suspense, frustration, etc. and it's all shared by others. I'm heading your direction tomorrow, Oghr!!! Silverwood Lake -- hoping to find my FIRST cache and placing two of my own. Allow me to climb down off my soapbox now.
  20. I've covered one of my plastic containers with rabbit fur. I'm placing the cache tomorrow so hopefully it will camouflage itself good enough and -- I just thought of this --- some carnivore doesn't smell it out and rip the full to shreds!! Fur is from a jacket so it's not recently dead
  21. im new to geocaching also, well my family and i are new. well i came accrossed this thread as well and i was wondering about what type to stick in caches. well im glad that there is a sense of humar about most things that people come accrossed. i wont do discusting things , im thinking about maybe doing some things somtimes that are cool yet things u dont see all the time or not very often. I'm very new also. I have hidden 3 caches so far. I have been trying to leave trinkets that would appeal to men, women and children/adults. I'll tell you though -- what's good swag to some may not be for others. I'm 46 years old and I left my small Yoshi car/action figure in one of the caches. I loved that little thing.. it was a prize at one of my friend's recent partys. So toys aren't necessarily just for kids. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I load my caches with stuff I would like to find and stuff my 3 yo niece and 9 yo nephew would like. I have left chewing gum in one cache so maybe that wasn't such a good idea.
