  1. Thanks. I knew I must have missed a step. Now, where do I get mapsource? Thistle Dew
  2. This is a bit more basic, but on the same line. I am really new to my Oregon 400t. My GPSr came with a City Navigator CD. I loaded it onto my computer and registered it with Garmin. The Garmin website says I have it downloaded. I cannot figure out how to get the CN to show on the Oregon. I change to automotive profile, but it still doesn't show when I go to setup--map--map information, select map. Only the topo map is listed. Doesn't that mean that the Oregon doesn't know it is there? Thanks, Thistle Dew
  3. Thanks for the tips. One sigh of relief came as I figured out I had to have the gps hooked up to the computer before the gpx files would show. (D'oh!) That way I found I could delete the geocaches that I had loaded individually from the gps. Whew!
  4. Hello. I too got a wonderful new Oregon 400t for Christmas. I have a premium membership with Geocaching. I never have needed, or have been able to figure out the pocket queries...but now I need them! I filled up twenty-five percent of my GPS by loading 50 caches one at a time. Now, dang it all, I cannot erase them! Can anyone point me to a VERY BASIC (read...computer bozo) step by step to make and download pq's and how to make and download gpx files. I have Easygps, but need to find a better tutorial than their site offers. So far I love the new Oregon...except for the scary leaps it is insisting I make into computer literacy!
  5. "We went on to find the cache and returned as quickly as possible to meet with the law enforcement authorities who were arriving at the scene." Yikes! That's bold. I think I might have called that one and just waited in my car for the cops. People are sometimes bad. Kids have learned to be aware of their surroundings by watching for muggles. Watch for muggles and bad guys too.
  6. There is a secret handshake, but my brother, the Mason, thinks it's theirs. Really, the best thing is seeing the GPSr. The question, "Have you found it?" might confuse the older cachers who were around for the Christian revival movement of the 1970's!
  7. We try to bring baggies and such for cache repair. Once we had to remove a smelly, wet log that had returned to its former puply state. We replaced it without question, since it could not be read, or saved. We put the entire cache contents in a zip lock and back into the broken butter dish. We notified the owner. Now...as far as replacing MISSING caches...one of ours states in the description, "not under the light post skirt." It was regularly found when someone wrote, "It was where you said it wasn't" Checking on our cache, we found it intact, where we left it. Under the nearby light post, however, was a film canister with a replacement log! These folks couldn't find ours, so the placed there own! You never really know if its missing or you just have to look harder. By the way, these folks were not signed on to the site, and couldn't be reached. Odd.
  8. I vote "Place it!" The coolest hides look like they ought to be there. I have been watching a discarded telephone electrical box that is still laying on the side of the road...look out!
  9. Hey Photonut, this is cheap compared to photography! Why not get into taking shots of the glorious landscapes you get to see while caching. Sell the shots to a postcard company and Ta-Da! Cache money!
  10. As far as cheap, small water tight containers...do you know a nurse? Those pee cups are great. Blood tubes are good too. You need to be friendly with the medical staff to get them new...please get them new and unused!!!! EWWWW! The problem I have with those little store bought nanos is the tiny logs. No fun unless you keep up on changing them often, we do need a spot to at least initial.
  11. We carry a few screwdrivers, all in belt holsters.
  12. Wow, hard to believe there are 13+ pages on this topic. You all are board members of your Home Owner's Associations, aren't you? Really...who can really tell, unless it is your own cache. And then, how many times could this have happened to you? This is not the epidemic you make it seem. Most of us play the game in our own ways. If someone is screwing it up for themselves they deserve the inner demons they gain. That is the beauty of the game. Relax and go out and find something.
  13. Having looked throughout the wedsite to answer the same questions, I'd like to help you out. I had to learn by asking friends. Thanks for the hide. Thanks for the cache. Thanks for the cache/ signed log. You will also find stuff like, TNLNSL (took nothing, left nothing, signed log) and I found it helpful to learn that TOTT meant I had to go buy one of those magnet on a stick things, claw grabber and tweezers (and other Tools of the Trade) from the nearby pep boys. I'm sure the list will continue to grow and by modified.
