  1. That article says there are 2 MILLION of us. Where are they pulling that number from? They also claim to have an opt-in email list of 600,000 geocachers! I don't remember signing up for that one.
  2. Keystone- It was very nice of you not to presume that the OP actually MEANT to post two copies of the same topic. How completely not rude! He must have made a simple mistake.
  3. I find any text or leet speak rude in an email. You can write in complete sentences. Did they find it or not? I sounds from the snippet that they searched and came up with a frown face, but could not bring themselves to post it as such. The only way to be sure would be to look at the log for a sig. Not only that, but it's an easy mistake to choose the wrong "found it/DNF" action from the drop down menu. Giving them the benefit of the doubt would have been worded like this: "I think you accidentally chose the wrong action 'Found It' when you logged my cache today. Can you please change your log?" So basically, yes, I would have also read your message as rude and presumptuous.
  4. I really like the idea of a soda bottle preform cast into a block of concrete! Might use that idea myself.
  5. Where can I get one and how much are they? Click on Trackable items...under Geocoins, go to geocoin home...scroll down, on the right will be a list of coin manufactureres and sellers. You can also frequent the geocoin forums, there is always someone selling coins. The auction place is another (pricer) way to buy coins. A micro size coin will run you $5-$6, for a regular size coin you will be looking at $8 and up. Thank You. I will look into it. I've left silver coins in two of my three hides for FTF. Probably worth $12-$15 each.
  6. That's because the code is stored in the URL. It's the only way to populate the field with your tracking number in step one. I'm not sure I would consider this a bug. User clicks "Trackable Items". That takes him to http://www.geocaching.com/track/ In the area "Activate Trackable Item:" the user ignorantly enter the activation code because he doesn't know better. Say code is "Z1Z1Z1Z1" The user is then brought to http://www.geocaching.com/track/activate.a...trknum=Z1Z1Z1Z1 when he clicks the submit button. That page has two text entry inputs. "Enter your tracking number below" is prepopulated from the URL, so contains "Z1Z1Z1Z1". At this point the user realizes his mistake and moves the value "Z1Z1Z1Z1" down to "Enter your activation code below" and then changes the top input field to the tracking number. When the user clicks the submit button, the changes he made to the top input area are NOT USED (disregarded/discarded)...the value from the URL is retained instead. In other words, the top input area is just there to fool the user...changing it doesn't DO anything upon submission...the value from the first page sticks around. That's a bug in my book. The page http://www.geocaching.com/track/search.aspx?k=lincoln+land has exactly the same problem. The search term becomes permanent thanks to the URL and the "text entry" area is useless. Visit the URL I included in this post and try changing the text in the form entry box to "Land of Lincoln". The search will be performed on the text from the URL, not what you've changed it to say.
  7. For that page to work as you (and I) would expect it to when pressing the enter key, I think they would have needed to use 3 separate FORM elements in the HTML. As is it written today they are using one form with named buttons. Clicking is the only way to get 2 of the 3 to submit. Wouldn't that be a relatively easy thing to fix in the HTML? I visit many other websites that have such things in place. It really is annoying, especially coupled with the the fact that you must page back after accidentally hitting Enter because the URL on subsequent pages have the (incorrect) search term embedded due to another "bug/feature" on that page. Yes, there are lots of little fine tuning things that need to be done. It's a never-ending job.
  8. You don't really mention why this paper is waterproof.

  10. And yet, you still don't read what you are replying to: "Since the coins have already been purchased and distributed." I read it. It doesn't matter if they printed up 10 million of them, I'm still against it. What difference does it make if they've decided already? I'm still opposed.
  11. Howz bout you play 'forums' your way and I'll play my way. My Controls: Manage Ignored Users. P.S. I've run several forums and if replying to old topics was truly discouraged they would be pruned from time to time.
  12. This thread is over a year old. I doubt that anyone that was on the fence about this idea back then is still on it now. Take a breath. This is an old thread that someone dredged up. I guess the topic doesn't matter anymore, since it's old. I wasn't here then, so I just won't have an opinion now.
  13. One more vote for the opposition here.
  14. It sounds like their database is down. I wonder if their web host is Cedant. They had my work site down for 10 hours this week!
  15. Are you sure the HC model will load maps? Don't you need the HCx? I have the HC and can't find an SD card port in mine. It does have 24MB of internal memory, but the maps seem to be sold on SD cards.
  16. I have learned that there are 10 or 12 sides to every story and never will everybody agree.

    tag or coin?

For a bit less than travel bug tags you can get Travel Slug token coins: They are already drilled and chained, completely ready to be used as a travel tag along with whatever item you want to attach.
  18. Yeah, I'm not looking for extreme security here because I'll know whether or not the person logging the find opened the lock because they will have picked up my travel bug with the key on it. A muggle could just walk away with the whole ammo can and open it at home at their leisure anyway. Excellent ideas and I'm glad I can do this with $2 worth of parts from the farm store.
  19. Yes exactly. Is your design done without drilling the can? I don't want to make it less waterproof.
  20. How have you padlocked an ammo can? Please show pictures of how you locked yours. I have seen these, but I'd like more ideas:
