  1. That is NOT true...... https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=51&pgid=296 includes: 4.3. EarthCache logging tasks Acceptable logging tasks: Asking geocachers to provide a photo of themselves or a personal item to prove they visited the site.
  2. HQ also had a clearly defined stance on Locationless caches.........didn’t fit well with geocaching and they were archived.
  3. If a banner is acceptable......why not any banner. Why not a picture of Signal?
  4. Geocching HQ stated "But the cache type didn’t fit well with geocaching." If Locationless caches don't fit well with geocaching........why bring ONE back? The one and only Locationless cache can be obtained at Mega and Giga Events......which requires you to attend a Mega or Giga.......I'm sure that leaves many cachers out. In this vein, why not bring back some of the archived APE caches so more cachers will be able to log one. When limited Virtuals were brought back....they were Virtual Rewards so why not make the new Locationless cache a Locationless Reward to distinguish it from the original Locationless caches?
  5. "The fourth souvenir, Case closed, requires a bonus challenge to unlock the vault." Where do we look for the bonus challenge?
  6. The app does not seem to allow access to email (not message) a CO. There are a few COs that do not use Message Center.I know that gc.com does not allow a CO to require answers for Virts orECs to be sent through one particular tool (email/message). There are other reasons a cachers may contact a CO. An improvement would to either provide a link to email like in your profile page or some visible sign that the CO can select that reflects that they do NOT use Message Center.
  7. Dropped 2 trackables into a GC7V8EC. One is listed on the cache page as "No name tag" but the trackable page lists it as DuckTales - Dewey Trackable
  8. When I try to create a Mystery cache..... After adding my coords then clicking in the Description box or Continue......the coords change to N 08° 53.870 W 064° 13.736 and I get a pop-up box that says: This location is pretty far away. Geocaches require routine maintenance, which is why we recommend placing within an easy drive from your home coordinates.
  9. See attached photo.....NO trash bin!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. After clicking "View Log" on a cache I own....I am taken to the View Geocache Log page...OK On the View Geocache Log page.....the only option I see if an icon for Permanently Encrypt....no longer do I see a Trash icon to delete the log. What's up?????
  11. Some Mystery caches state "Cache is NOT at the Listed Coords but that is a good place to park." In this instance I would not want the Listed Coords to be updated. I use GSAK and just add a Child Waypoint with the Final Coords.
  12. I dropped TBs into a cache with via a Note. They show in the TB inventory on the cache page but also remain in my inventory (Listed in my list when I go to log another cache. I'm using Windows 7 and IE 11
  13. Thanks for the "opt out" on logging new caches. I might be enticed to use the new logging page IF it retained the ability to go to the next cache to be logged by entering that next cache's GC# instead of clicking to go to another page.
  14. Some time back my wife started a cache page for a cache in the works. Today, she made edits to the cache page including updating the "Date Placed" field. We did notice that when clicking on the calendar to change the date....it changed to Dec/11/2016. Submitting changes resulted in "You do not have a valid Date Placed." Work around.....manually enter the new date (ie 12/11/2016) PC is Windows XP running Google Chrome.
  15. I never meant this to deterirate into a discussion about how many finds constitutes a cachers being experienced or qualified for hiding caches......I only used Groundspeaks statement. Education should be the best solution. How to Get Accurate Coordinates ( http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=673 ) is already on gc.com but I'm guessing that many newbies have NOT read it. Googles Maps (and other maps) might not be useful in many situations but are a tool that could be used in some situations to continue a conversation with a newbie about cache placement) I sure all newbies want to have good coords and most will try to learn. In 2 of my examples (after DNFs/NA were posted), the CO came back with: -"I moved it closer to the original coordinates. Sorry for the misconception." This makes me wonder what they meant by closer....there was no hiding spot within 50 ft of listed coords. -"sorry about coordinates, will try to fix, meanwhile, we'll give a hint....." I know that several other experienced caches and I have tried contacting a particular new cacher about several things including bad coords, logging a find on their own cache, claiming FTF when they were 3rd or 4th to find, caches they hid that became archived before they were ever found (nobody was able to find them). With few exceptions we received NO reply or give me a break. Not all newbies are bad, not all experienced cachers are good but my experience has been that there are a larger number of new cachers in the recent past that have had lousy coords.
  16. I'm NOT assuming that a dialogue about the accuracy of the coordinates did not take place pre-publication. But it appears that if a dialogue took place.....that dialogue wasn't thorough enough. I would guess that a hider would say "cache hidden in shrubs" or "light pole cache"....yes Google Maps can show the coords at the wrong shrub or wrong light pole.....but when Google Maps show the coords over ft away from a place described by the hider, something must be hinky. Please don't take this as an attack on Reviewers......it's just questioning the process and wanting to come up with a way to avoid caches being found over 100 ft from the listed coords. I understand that even experienced cache hiders can have bad coords.....I have a friend who is an experienced cachers who transposed 2 numbers when a cache was submitted....coords were over 200 ft off. My experience has been that NEW/INEXPERIENCED HIDERS have the greatest number of bad coords. I only listed 3 examples.
  17. Now that Groundspeak has included "We encourage you to find at least twenty geocaches before you choose to hide one." in the Placement Guidelines...... I would like to suggest that Reviewer give a more stringent review of caches submitted by cachers that have found less than 20 caches. Let me start with 3 examples of caches that have been published in my area within the last 5 days: GC65281 On All Fours....CO has 0 finds.......coords led to middle of grassy area......coords have been updated about 101ft GC659FD Sunshire.......CO has 2 finds.......Google maps shows coords on shoulder of dual highway.....cache was found 295 ft away from listed coords......I suspected the cache was a skirt lifter (it was) GC65BB7 Junk in the Trunk.....CO has 3 finds......Google maps shows coords in middle of parking lot.....no place to hide a small container within 50 ft. Reviewers being required to do more due diligence on these caches could have prevented problems. In these 3 cases, just looking at Google maps could have led the reviewer to ask for more info about where the cache was hidden. More questions being asked of these inexperienced and unproven cache hiders could lessen the amount of bad coords. Listing Guidelines include "Listings must contain accurate GPS coordinates." Reviewers should be helping ensure that new hiders are getting accurate coords. I don't expect to find caches where my gpsr says 0 ft but I do expect listed coords NOT to be off by over 100 ft.
  18. Older PQ stil lhas NOT run but a new one I just submitted has.
  19. I have a PQ that has NOT run since it was submitted this morning. After hitting submit information I can see a preview but on the PQ page it shows as being run "NEVER".
  20. I've been unable to find a way block another player from sending me a message (described in FAQ) until they send me a message. I'd like to be able to block everyone (opt out of Message Center)because: -I want emails from cachers who find my Virts. I save them to verify finders that don't log immediately or for group finds. -Likewise I will email COs the answers to their Virts and ECs so I get a copy email (I eventually add to my cache notes) -Most cachers that I communicate with.....I do so by phone, email or text....AND don't need another method to contact them.
  21. Is it me or do Premium caches disappear as you zoom out.
  22. The cache hide count on the profile page is NOT always correct. My count adds up to 161 but my total is listed as 159. I've checked another cacher....they had 20 hides and their total was listed as 23.
  23. NO problems when using Chrome. The problem occured on every cache I tried (several). I tried the same and different content on different caches on both mine and my wife's account. I only tried to enter text in the note. Even though a search by GC code would not work from the homepage it would work from "by GC Code" on http://www.geocaching.com/seek/
