Congratulations on your win! That's wonderful! Adorable baby too!

If you decide to meet up with other cachers in your area, this could also help with another of your problems: transportation. If you offer to help with gas costs, you could ride along with them to look for caches that are too far for you to travel on your bike.

FTF booty in a microcache?
DaFunkyFrogs replied to ThePetersTrio's topic in General geocaching topics
Usually only the tough to find micros have a FTF prize in our area. Items range from an unactivated micro-coin to coupons for burgers, ice cream or what-have-you or small charms, interesting beads or rocks................... -
Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and 99 Cents Only Stores usually have ones that work great and don't cost much also. Just about any 'dollar store' is good.

Would a P-38 can opener be OK as a cache item?
DaFunkyFrogs replied to TeamGumbo's topic in General geocaching topics
We have been cleaning out our local surplus stores of those P-38's, we put them in just about all the caches we find, they even fit in most micros. Everybody around here loves them and they don't stay in a cache for long. We put them in a small zip bag with a tag that tells what they are. Great swag! -
Your ideas sound great! And what a wonderful memorial for your father! My only advice would be to not send out to travel anything that would cause heartache if it were to go missing, and have lots of patience. Some bugs seem to run all over and accomplish their goal in record time, but more often they take their time strolling around aimlessly (but that can be fun to watch too). The most important thing is to send them out there and enjoy their travels! Good luck! (Oh, and if you decide to use the quilt square idea, package it in a heavy duty freezer type zip bag to protect it, and add a laminated mission tag so people will know where you want it to go)

To most bug owners, even a short hop is better than sitting in a cache for an extended stay. Take a look at the bug's page to see how long they have been sitting and if it's been awhile jump-start their movement for them. You can also see what their goal is and have an idea if you are moving them in their desired direction. Also, a lot of bug's missions are simply to travel from cache to cache, so you would be helping them to do exactly that. Just be sure to log them out of the cache you get them from and into the cache you drop them in. Good luck and have fun!

This thread has some good information.

Willy Wonka muggled my cache...
DaFunkyFrogs replied to Castle Mischief's topic in General geocaching topics
We had an ammo can/TB hotel near a major highway get stolen, and instead of just replacing it, we moved it to another hiding spot about 150 feet away and off the ground. Then we just submitted the new coords to our reviewer to get that changed on the cache page. Our thinking was that it might have been muggle-kids who found it and stole it, so getting it above their heads and away from the original spot may preserve it. So far it is doing great. -
Try clicking on your reviewers name at the bottom of your cache page, this will take you to his profile where you can send him an email with the same information you posted in the note. I'm thinking that he is likely to see that before a note on the cache page itself.

You could split the order of 25 coins with 2 other people, and put the 3 caching names on the 3 lines.

Oh No! Small Ziplock Bags Outlawed in Chicago!
DaFunkyFrogs replied to Vinny & Sue Team's topic in General geocaching topics
So THAT'S why I can't find dragees anymore................ Has there been a run on the small baggies, depleting the supply, in anticipation of their banning? -
We have a Chevy Suburban that we use when we need to haul anything or when we go caching in an area with just dirt/rough roads. It also carries our mobility aids. For most of our regular everyday driving, though, we have a Hyundai Accent that gets phenomenal gas mileage . So, no, gas prices have not really affected our caching or any other driving. We live out in the middle of nowhere so we HAVE to drive a lot.

From what I've read in other threads, there doesn't seem to be any odd side effects from changing your user name. Everything is changed over: posts, logs, stats etc. Nothing left of the old name. I could be wrong, but that is what I have understood.

Actually, most of his caches are fairly easy. He has moved out of state and offered us his caches, and rather than let them turn into geolitter we are trying to find all of them and start maintaining them. I just needed a better idea of how far and wide they were scattered.

Another good source of inexpensive but good swag is Oriental Trading Co. They have great stuff for all ages. We order items in bulk from them and never run out of swag.

If you aren't careful, you will argue yourself right out of trying this game, which would really be a shame, it's just too much fun! Hope you figure out a way that works for you. Good luck!

Thank you, that worked, but it does seem like there should be an easier way.

I would like to map out the caches that belong to a specific cacher, is there a way to do this? Thanks for any help.

If You Knew A Geocacher Who Died.......
DaFunkyFrogs replied to simpjkee's topic in General geocaching topics
I don't know about an event--but there is this cache -
Not whining----The OP's topic was SPAM, I don't think he cares what micros I have seen or liked/disliked.

We leave bandannas and mini-first-aid kits pretty often. Those seem to be popular as they get snapped up quickly. We also try to always leave something for the kids-Hot Wheels, rubber duckies, stickers, cute erasers, barrettes and scrunchies. Shopping for kid swag is always fun!
-
OR, you could try meeting up with other cachers in your area (easy to do in the regional forums) and see if you can cache with them when they go out for member only caches. This way you could also start caching before you get your GPSr, as other cachers will already have them.

Can the ability to upload images be disabled?
DaFunkyFrogs replied to Max PDOP's topic in General geocaching topics
A lot of the caches we find are in truly beautiful locations and I usually take pictures IN THE AREA, not of the cache/location itself and post those on the cache page. And, yes, I do look at photos on a cache page that I'm planning on visiting. Not looking for spoilers but to see what the area looks like. (Sometimes there are great pictures of fellow cachers in there too!) So I wouldn't want to delete pictures, unless it were spoiler pictures on one of my own caches.
