  1. I feel like an old man shouting “stay off my lawn”. That’s how I feel when I get another email notification announcing that a specific geocacher (name withheld) has added to his never ending power trail(s). Within my 10 mile notification circle, I believe there are well over 500 caches placed by this cache owner. For months, 9 out of 10 email notifications received have been power trail related. If these were imaginative geocaches that put a smile on your face or take you to a cool location, I would not say anything. They are not. I know, I am free not to looks for these caches. For the record, we worked one of the early trails deployed by this cache owner. But there is a negative impact to the quality of our geocaching. We have to wade through the long lists of geocaches placed by this cache owner before we see a cache placed by any other geocacher. If we have an idea for clever new cache, Unique placement locations are squandered by thoughtless power trails. New geocachers may find these power trails fun for a while, since the prize is so easy to find. But when new geocachers go to place their first geocache, they have these lousy caches as role models. I used to say that new geocachers should find 25 to 50 caches before they hide their first cache. Thanks to these local power trails in the suburbs, a new geocacher may never see a geocache with multiple favorite points before they abandon this new hobby. In a past life, we were “all about the numbers”. We chased down every cache we could. Hitting a couple power trails out in the desert was particularly fun and number producing. Now a days, we search for the few new caches placed in the neighborhood and when we travel. These power trails are encroaching on my neighborhood....not happy about it. Can be be stopped? Should it be? Rant, over. Your thoughts.
  2. Really? As CanadianRockies pointed out above, you should only be seeing 14132 caches, not 14154. You've logged a bunch of caches (as many as 22) as found multiple times, so while you've logged 14154 find logs, you've only found 14132 caches. Anyway, that's odd how that database was ignoring those caches. I'm sure someone over at the GSAK forums could tell us why it was happening, but it doesn't really matter now that you've got it working. Glad to hear you got it sorted out. You got me thinking about those multiple finds. I knew I had a bunch caches (moving caches & challenge caches) where multiple finds were authorized. Turns out that those multiple caches only accounted for about half of those duplicate logs. The rest of them were the result on faulty memory and poor book keeping on my part. Corrections made. I hope the Cache Police don't throw me in Cache Prison.
  3. I thought I was starting with a new database each time I used GSAK since I "cleared data" each time I loaded a fresh pocket query. But I took your advise and created a "new" database then loaded the pocket query. Sure enough, all 14,154 caches appeared this time. THANKS for solving that. I still don't know what was "tainting" the new import. It is odd that the cache closest to my home (Folsom, CA), the cache farthest from home (Sydney, Australia) and the cache farthest south (Auckland, New Zealand) would be missing from the list. I don't know about the other 97 missing caches. Thanks for everyone for the help and/or suggestions.
  4. It has been my habit to start with a fresh database just about every time I use GSAK. The only caches in the current database are from the fresh pocket query.
  5. frinklabs got it. The missing caches are in the raw PQ. I guess I'll be moving this question over to the GSAK Forum. Thanks.
  6. I was looking at our "statistics" page on geocaching.com. I found the "My Home Location Statistics" box. I was going to play those specific locations to see what happens. With GSAK open and loaded with a freshly downloaded My Finds Pocket Query, I went to "filter" on these 6 caches. Much to my surprise, 3 of the caches listed on in "My Home Location Statistics" were missing from my pocket query, even though the cache pages clearly show that we have found them. In fact, there are exactly 100 caches missing from the pocket query. We should have 14,154 caches loaded in GSAK but only 14054 are listed. This may be a GSAK problem. No big need to solve this mystery, I just found it weird. Anyone else experience this anomaly?
  7. While I don't think either host of these cache events meant to "game the system" with the out-of-whack ratings, it does cheapen accomplishment of those working on challenge caches and those who have completed them.
  8. Is the star inflation a NorCal phenomena or are folks seeing Difficulty 5 and Terrain 4 cache events in your neck of the woods (GC2300B and GC23BQG). We've attended cache events where we had to paddle to the island venue, so high terrain cache events exist. I am puzzled by how cache events at the local Round Pizza qualify for these kind of ratings.
  9. Anti spyware/adware programs will remove cookies. I have no doubt that active protection programs will clean up on a regular basis. Do you have anything that might fit the bill? I use ESET NOD32 for my anti virus - spyware. It does not seem to mess with access to other cookie requiring websites (like Facebook).
  10. Thanks for that idea. It turns out my setting was already set at "they expire" next idea?
  11. This is probably a Windows 7 question and not a geocaching.com problem but I'll post it here in hopes that the smart people reading the forums will have an answer. My new computer has Windows 7 and I use Firefox as my browser. Then I select "Open Waypoint URL" from GSAK to check out the cache page, a new tab opens to the selected cache page (just like my old computer and Windows XP). The problem is.... I have to "log in" to my geocaching.com account. Fortunately, the log in windows are already filled in with my user names and password, so I just have to click on Login. I always place a "check" in the Remember me (requires cookies) box. Sadly, my computer does not seem to be remembering me. As long as I don't close Firefox, I stay logged in no matter how many times I leap from GSAK to GC.com. Any thoughts or solutions come to mind? Thanks in advance.
  12. What is the Sac. Valley Quad challenge? I did a search for it but I couldn't find it. Can you give me more information on this? Thanks -Matt You are looking for Sacramento Valley Quadrangle Challenge GCZPKH
  13. I just received the new California Mapbook as a B-Day. I like the new look. The 1:200,000 scale compared to the 1:150,000 scale is not quite as daunting as a challenge. Don't get me wrong, you still have cover the whole dang state but the number of caches available to find on each page compared to when we did the NorCal DeLorme is significantly greater. Each page in the old book covered an area messuring 23.4 miles by 34.5 miles. A page in the new book covers as area of 32 miles by 44.4 miles. That is big difference. Unless there is some pages down in SoCal that will surprise us, it looks like we won't have anything adventures like we like had on the infamous Page 62 (GCKE5K - 9/27/04). The first cachers to meet the NorCal DeLorme Challenge could not to complete it without sharing some common experiences since several pages only had one cache and they were miles off the beaten path. We are stoked to find to new areas, particular in SoCal for this new adventures. Can't wait to get started.
  14. DiverVan, Great to see this new DeLorme challenge. It has been a while since we've chased the arrow around the entire state. I was sure glad to see this rule: Caches found and logged online prior to the publication of this cache do count towards pages found. I am hoping that some of you smart people out there will create Google Earth grids, java scripts and/or other DeLorme Challenge tools for us. hynr, bootybuddies are you listening?
  15. Shameless Plug: We still have a few Geopelli Geocoins available. Geopelli Website
  16. Given the number of multiple coins purchases, I am confident there are a number of trading partners available. Since our goal is to keep our personal geocoin collection relatively small, we seek only to trade for coins that have particularly meaning to us. We are hesitant to say we are open to trading because we fear we will offend people who offer us coins for which we have no interest. With that being said, if potential traders don't mind hearing "No Thank You" for their trade offer, feel free to contact us privately with your offer.
  17. By popular demand Geopelli is back! For ordering information please the first post in this thread or visit this link Geopelli Geocoin

I asked for the information listed in my first post. I didn't see a response. I'll assume your PayPal address is the same as your email address and you an invoice. Thanks for checking back.
  20. Due to the sticker shock suffered when we paid for these little beauties, we are only selling coins at this time.
  21. Hey Everyone, You probably have heard of Kokopelli, the mystical spirit worshiped by many Native American cultures. We would like to introduce you to Geopelli, Kokopelli's fun loving cousin. While Kokopelli is renown for being the god of fertility and mischief, Geopelli's power is his ability to find caches, lots and lots of caches. Here is your chance to possess some of this mystical power. Simply purchase this magical (and beautiful) geocoin and the power of Geopelli can be yours. 22. We are flattered in the interest in our Geopelli Geocoin. Actually, we are a little blown away since we haven't even laid hands on this coin ourselves yet. This our first endeavor in geocoin production. As most of you already know, there is a pretty hefty capitol expense to produce geocoins. The first lot of coins is always the most expensive. With this expense in mind, we hope to sell enough Geopelli Geocoins to pay for our investment and have a few coins left over for placing in caches, giving to friends and of course, trading for geocoins that catch our fancy. Currently, our small geocoin collection consists of coin bought from our geocaching friends. Since we are at the bottom of this geocoin learning curve, we are still looking for the best way to sell our geocoins, recoup our investment and move on the making a few trades. If anyone has any recommendations on the best way to accomplish this goal, it would be greatly appreciated.
  23. Yes, the Geopelli Geocoin is our creation. It is production now. We hope to have it before the end of the year. that. Geopelli Geocoin The Geopelli character is suppose to glow in the dark. We are looking forward to receiving the shipment. The geocoins will be available shortly after
