Perhaps the cache page language(s) should be included as an attribute? it would allow cachers to filter out cache pages in languages they do not understand.

I suddenly noticed that my 500 cache PQs return more WPs than 500. Their numbers don't start with GC, and they have names such as "parking", etc.. What are they, and what are they for? Could I exclude them from PQs?
If they are part of caches, I have a feature requet. I would like to be able to fix the total number of WPs I'm downloading in a PQ, rather than the number of caches.
Thanks!

Same thought here. Cache owner's name is useful, whereas the reviewer's name (1) is usually the same in an area, and (2) is not.

This almost seems to make my point. Some idiot may try looking there (hey maybe its a micro, or a nano, maybe its underneath), and get run over.

If the TB is logged into a cache it is possible for the cache owner to mark it as missing. The TB owner can do it as well. I don't think the person shown as holding the bug can do that. On the TB page, on the right side under options is a pull down menu. The cache owner has it defaulted to Recalculate Distance. The TB owner has it default to Mark As Missing. Those may be where you saw this before. I did not see that option on the one bug I am currently holding.
If anyone runs into this kind of problem in the future, they could just "drop" the bug into one of their own caches, and then, as cache owners, they could declare it as missing.

add it to your favorites in your browser, and give the link a descriptive name like "Caches close to home" or "Caches close to work". Now you've got a link you can use to come back whenever you want, and it'll only take one click of the mouse.
Bookmark as many different locations as you want.
That is so simple I didn't even think of it. Thanks
It's computer-specific, as opposed to account-specific. You could, f course, have different default shortcuts on different computers, which are stationary at various locations.
But the best would be to get a premium membership. No need for workarounds, and many other benefits.

Does this mean that people born just before midight are now a day younger?
Oh my world is all messed up now!
Dear Abby,
I think I was born at 10 AM in the CET timezone, I believe they had daylight saving time there, then. When should I celebrate my birthday in the PNW?
Confused,

On cache pages GCRAM1 and GCRAM6 there are no longer links to caches nearby, maps, etc. Is that because they are puzzle caches?
FWIW, I regret the change, and hope it's just a very temporary bug.

Yeah the search is done off of a mirrored database. The mirror is supposed to update within a minute or so, but sometimes it takes longer when the site is really, really busy. Add to this the memory caching done on the web server computers and sometimes things may appear to be out of sync for several minutes. Just be patient. Log a few other finds or even go out and find some more caches. When you come back, all should be right in the world
Actually, the problem of new finds not having a red checkmark is an old and recurring one, and it usually settles within a week.
However, now we have a situation where no checkmarks are shown at all, not even for caches found many years ago, which used to have their red check marks in the past.
Atleast, that's what is happening for me, on several different computers.

Had any mass conversions recently? :-)
"Mass" "converstions" you guys crack me up.

I rarely find any useful statements in logs about how good a cache is. They all say something like, "great hunt, thanks!" For me, the end result is that I eliminate ALL micros from my to-do list, because I have no way to know which will be interesting and which will be the same old thing. And that sucks, because there are some fun micros out there that I would love to hunt! Further, few people are willing to put negative criticism in a cache log. I have only noticed obviously negative comments on the very worst caches.
For what it's worth, the "other site" does have a fairly functional quality score for caches, despite what GPSaxophone says. (The system there has been tweaked and certain problems addressed.) As far as I can tell, it works well. There will always be the chance for abuse, when you have anonymous voting. And opinions on different caches will always vary. But when you have enough people voting, those things go away. Once you realize that most people will vote highly on caches that are unique, or physically and mentally challanging, and vote low on cookie-cutter or pointless caches, you can figure out where YOU stand in all of that and use that information properly. I would rather have some sort of quality indicator than none at all, even if it isn't perfect.
(I do not intend to stir up the childish rivalry between this and Terracaching.com, by the way. I use both of them and like both of them. If you feel the need to dismiss the quality voting idea simply because it exists on another site that you perceive to be "the enemy," then you need to take a step back and re-evaluate what is important. Go watch some college football if you need to support a pointless rivalry. Go Cocks!)

I think that rating systems are entirely useless if one wants to use them in order to decide whether one wants to go out and hunt it, because everybody has entirely different standards for rating. In that respect, the cache description and the logs provide much more useful information. The fact that logs are not anonymous also helps: There are some people of whom I know that when they speak highly of a cache, I'll probably like it too.
Therefore, I think that a rating system would serve no purpose whatsoever on this site.
However, since TC's rating system has been mentioned: that rating system serves an entirely different purpose. Over on TC, quality criteria are not enforced by approvers, but by the caching community, and caches which get mostly thumb-down signals are likely to get system-archived, eventually. There too, I would not recommend taking the rating as a guideline for "cache eminenence", as they call it, but after having undergone a few tweaks, the system appears to be working very well now.
The bottom line is: I disagree with Saxman's statement that the rating system does not work on TC - it works very well and serves the purpose it was designed for - but agree with him and all the others who say that such a system would be of no added value here on GC.

I am not into collecting geocoins but I sure want one of those. Thanks for doing so much for the Kitsap County Geocaching community. I nominate you for the Kitsap County Geocachers of the Year award. Dick, W7WT
Same thoughts here!

(BTW, those mountains in the background, they are not in Kitsap, but over here, on our side, in Jefferson County
)
Didn't say they were. But you can see them from Kitsap.
Yeah. Actually, the best view of those mountains, other than views from the peaks themselves, is from the Seabeck area in Kitsap, across Hood Canal.

My kids and I were discussing the cache we're getting ready, what to put in it, where to hide it, etc. My older son had an idea to put a tzedakah ("charity") box in a cache, in addition to some good swag. When cachers found the cache, they could, if they want, put some loose change in the box. When it was full, we would take it and donate it to a local (secular) charity, maybe Northwest Harvest.
What do you all think? Would this be within the guidelines, in your opinions?
Team Maccabee's Abba
I am glad you pointed out that your intent is "local" and "secular", because your term "tzedakah" certainly suggests otherwise to those of us who understand it, and the translation of it as "charity" is a bit tendentious. Indeed, if the terms were equivalent, you wouldn't have needed to insert that other term.
Anyway, I think you'd have to specify very clearly what it is for, and make sure it is not for a political goal, or otherwise in violation of the GC guidelines for neutrality.
I also agree with RK, of course. The money might be removed, and for that reason I, for one, would not contribute, even if it were a charity I fully endorse. I'd rather make a tax-deductible contribution via normal channels and be sure that it arrives.

Is there a mad or antagnostic font that I'm not aware of?
I believe the nature of antignostic fonts is such that one cannot be aware of them.

I'm working on an explanation of the legal issues that I ran up against to post for cachers that are interested. Knowing the law helped me remain confident, but the law is different in practice from in theory.
I sure appreciate the response of well wishes that I've received from other cachers. Thanks for the support. I sure know a bunch of wonderful people.

They are positioned at the top of the page above the latest logs. In other words, in the prime real estate (since pending listings are a big priority)
Thanks. But that's just the pending ones. Where do I dind the ones that have been rejected? As I said: I used to be able to see them under the "view archived" link in the right margin, under the pending caches.
-
The new layout is mostly an improvement. I'd have been happy if the pocket queries were positioned more prominently in the tab bar at the top, but at least I can find them.
However, Having no caches in the approval queue, I don't know where I would find them now. They used to be listed in the right margin of the My Account / Quickview page. Moreover, there used to be a "view archived" link, which would show me caches which were rejected, never approved. Where can I find those now?
Thanks!

I modified two old queries and checked the box for delivery today. The queries were generated immediately, but not sent. Still the same problem.
Yikes, I want to load them before my plane leaves tomorrow!

I'll announce at dinner tomorrow that stop 59 (Railroad Bridge Park) and stop 14 (Spruce Goose) are off the route, and that a new cache, stop 47.5 (Francis Street Park) has been added.
Why is Spruce Goose off the route?
It's a no-impact cache, and it's *on* the route.
Not that I mind...
The webcam is reported to be down. If you look at it tonight it will probibly still show a day scene. Unless the sun never goes down over there.
Ah, I see. Last time it happened, I called them, and they fixed it right away.
The phone number is on the page. If someone wants to volunteer, that's great.
I'm buried under work - not even sure I'll make it to the pizza tomorrow.

Red Check Marks In Gc Maps

GC maps show no red check marks for caches I have found since January 21st... How frequently are these supposed to be updated nowadays?
