  1. Greetings! I'm a Pacific Northwest cacher who's going to be heading down to the Tahoe area in about a week. I'm not planning the trip so I'm uncertain exactly where I'm headed yet, but I'm told it is "South Tahoe." I've got a pocket query all set up to plop onto my laptop I'll be taking with me along with all my GPS gear, of course. Any suggestions for "can't miss" caches in the area? I'd love to drop off some of my Glow-in-the-Dark Tokens: Also, if there are any travel bugs that want to head north in two weeks, let me know and I'll give 'em a ride. Thanks!
  2. Also I've noticed that photos on travel bug logs don't appear in the gallery as well.
  3. In the pinned Jeep Thread, Jeremy said that the 1000 were available for distribution and you simply needed to ask for one to get one. Sounded like some people got some too.
  4. Hand stamping sounds like the way to go. I'll toss in a supportive vote. I'd love to volunteer to help stamp the coins, but I have a hard time getting out of the house to cache with my daughter (1yr old tomorrow!). I'd like to lend my support in other ways; perhaps we need to enter/send the data to Groundspeak for our serial numbers, activation coes, and coin names? Let me know what I can do! This looks like it is nearly done and we started chatting 'bout this only a few days ago. Excellent work everyone, especially Navdog and Pepper. Y'all made it happen! Oh, MrGigabyte: It's Evergreen, not Everglades!
  5. Yup, good point. The cost of putting the numbers on the coin isn't that great. Unfortunately, the cost of tracking the coins has not yet been identified. The cost per coin could go up depending on the solution. I would like to see them serialized, but tracking may not be worth the cost if they don't move from cache to cache.
  6. On my way home from work today, I was thinking: Why are we adding serial numbers? I'd personally like to track 'em, but do we really expect that a $4 coin is going to get moved to another cache instead of just being kept by the finder? We might be working a little too hard to make 'em trackable when they may only visit one cache in their lifetime.
  7. I have confirmed with Jeremy that we will not be able to do this. If we were able to produce coins with random alphanumeric identification, then he could accommodate us, but not if we use sequential numbering. We'll have to look elsewhere for tracking. I've already put out an email to MrG, who runs the Canadian geocoins site and has set up the tracking sites for several of the state sites. (longshot) Hey, Pepper: Could the coins be minted in a way that would meet Jeremy's requrement? Even if that incurrs an additional cost, it might save in the long run by not tracking them outside of the site.
  8. Argh. You can set up a free one easy enough, but if someone wants to pay with a credit card, that'll be a problem. You'd also need to tie this with your personal account. Wonder what the IRS will think of that. We're still in the design phases and this thread already has people placing orders. I sure hope we can hit 500, but it could be tough with that price tag.
  9. Any word on if we can track the coins through Geocaching.com?
  10. For 500 Coins I'm getting the following costs: Antique Silver $1,525.00 Enamel Both Sides $350.00 Epoxy One Side $250.00 Die Charge $100.00 Shipping 1st leg $150.00 (eg to Pepper's House - Additional charge to each cacher) 15% Discount - $356.25 Total $2,018.75 Per Coin Cost $4.04 w/o discount, Per Coin Cost $4.75 Pepper, how's my math? Pretty pricey, but I'd rather have one of these than two Oregon coins!
  11. I was going to say the same thing, but I got silver and the year so I wasn't going to press my luck! I think we've got plenty of time. We need permission for the logo and find out if we can track them on Geocaching.com's site. Assuming that we can, we will need activation codes and bags (like normal travel bugs) for each coin, right? There's gonna be some data entry to do as well.
  12. The difference between Nickel and Silver? Nickel has an Atomic Number of 28. Atomic mass 58.71 g.mol -1 Density 8.9 g.cm-3 at 20°C Melting point 1453 °C Boiling point 2732 °C Silver has an Atomic Number of 47 Atomic mass 107.87 g.mol -1 Density 10.5 g.cm-3 at 20°C Melting point 962 °C Boiling point 2212 °C Hope that helps. Groan. Silver has a larger atomic number. That seals it for me!
  13. What's the difference between Nickel and Silver?
  14. ... and we should have an event cache at Jeremy's house to distribute them all!
  15. My wife just got these the other day!
  16. FROG! Ha! I love it! Can that be pulled off? I just ran some numbers based on what Pepper posted earlier for Silver Coins that are Enamel painted on one or both sides. One Side Cost per Coin $3.32 Two Sided Cost per Coin $3.61 Disclaimer - These values are not final and are just an approximation! Those figures should include die charges, shipping, and Pepper's 15% discount on 500 coins. It does not include an additional distribution cost from Pepper's house. So, color is costing an aditional $0.31 for the back side when you figure in the other factors. Navdog: Your secret is safe with us.
  17. I don't understand. Nobody "needs" color on either side, but I for one think it adds to the asthetic appeal when done tastefully. Are you saying you don't like color, or simply want to keep the costs down? I said that primarily to respond to the effort to keep the cost down. It does help drive home the "Evergreen State" motto and color is always good. If we need to save money, the state should be the first to go. I'd personally like to see it stay and perhaps color the Groundspeak logo too. Clearer?
  18. If you are talking about links in a cache log, you can look here.
  19. If memory serves, going with silver is cheaper. That might offset the two sided color cost too. But, who needs just the state on the back colored? Might as well drop that and save a little unless the Geocaching logo is getting colored. Love that silver color. The mountains look much better for some reason.
  20. #9 looks great! We are going to need to get permission to put the Geocaching logo on the coins. How is that traditionally handled? (broken record) I would like a star for Olympia with some other mark for Seattle. People will think Seattle is the capital of Washington! How about a flag similar to Oregon's coins? When can I sign up? What were the metal options? I wonder what this would look like in silver... Excellent job!
  21. Personally I wouldn't use the extra box to engrave anything. How about adding a year? If/When we do another run, we'd want to tell what year they were minted, right? I'd volunteer to set up a tracking website, but I doubt I'd have enough time to build it before the coins were done and distributed. Assuming all the orders got placed today, how long until they would be done?
  22. Do you think they could be tracked on Geocaching.com like USA Geocoins? I would imagine that if WA was tracked, all the other states would want to join in. I'm unsure how open TPTB would be to that.
  23. I'd like to see the star in Olympia and maybe a swoosh coming off of the Seattle area with the Geocaching logo or something... We don't want everyone to think Seattle is the capital of Washington!
  24. Can't believe I'm the only one with an opinion on this... I do like the idea, but think email is the wrong way to go. How about a notice that appears on your cache page (http://www.geocaching.com/my) that indicates the anniversary dates of your caches? Sort of like what shows up in your inventory when you are holding a travel bug for too long.
  25. Awesome work! I nap for the weekend and bam! Designs are already well on their way to being done. Excellent job! Although it appears that Rainier has been decided on, this was my favorite suggestion from Page 1: All of the ideas are wicked cool and I can't wait to see 'em!
