  1. Gud mornin / afternoon / evenin!! I have a 60CSx, and am generally very happy with it, but now have some spare cash burning a hole in my pocket! Do I "upgrade" to a Colorado or spend the cash in the pub? Paul.
  2. Well, I'll probably get shot down over this, but...... I like mili, micro, nano, pico caches.... Yeah, I know loads of people hate them, but each to their own. I'd love to be able to have a code that can be emailed back instead of a logbook... Hmmm... Just had a thought...Earthcaches dont have log books, just logging requirements, so why not have a pebble as an earthcache? Right, back to my nice warm padded room, with the spiders!! PAUL. What are mili and pico caches? Milicache = preform, micro = film pot, nano = lil magnetic ex flashy led thingy painted black, pico cache = anything smaller than a nano!!!
  3. I just did a quick scan thru the "guidelines", and found this : "For all physical caches, there must be a logbook, scroll or other type of log for geocachers to record their visit." Surely the act of logging the find on GC.COM is in fact meeting the published "guideline" regarding logging by using the "other type of log" option?

  5. I just did a Google and found this... http://www.thegoodgift.co.uk/gift001/cryptic.html
  6. The latest addition is a Nikon S210 compact, that has yet to prove itself.. But early results are pretty good for an 8mega pixel compact.. While not boght exclusively for caching, I did buy a Nokia 6220C cell fone.. Has a reasonable 5mega pixel camera, and a-GPS... Great as a backup or for a quick cache on the way home from work if I don't have my 60CSx.. I usually tote a Nikon D50 and a couple of lenses around if I know i am going to take lots of shots..
  7. Ta for the link, unfortunately the merged map loses the Garmin Topo unlock code, and becomes worse than useless! Works great for merging OSM segments tho... Looks like I'll be swapping the cards, or renaming them via the pooter...
  8. Is it possible to run Garmin Topo GB v2 and OPENSTREETMAPS on the same microSD card on my 60CSx? I've read some useless gumpf found with Google, but that didn't work.. Both maps are loaded on the card, and as I really don't fancy having to open the case and swap the cards every time I fancy a change of map I thought I'd ask here if it is possible. TIA,
  9. I dunno, plenty of big trees around with lots of hidey holes 20+ feet up.... With the bonus of being pretty much muggle proof..
  10. I got a hangover from the xmas eve drinkies after work... I really should lay off the red wine and redbull!!!! Oh, and a mega bright Hope Vision One bike light... I also got length of climbing rope, 2 ropeman2 ascenders, 4 karibiners and a new climbing harness.... Just need to find some serious terrain (5+) to hide some caches now!!!
  11. Fek..! I was out caching in the cold and missed it! Oh well, it'll prob be repeated sometime this week!!!!
  12. Just go out and buy aother one! That'll teach her!!!
  13. Welcome to the forum. It is really quite friendly.... Neither of the fones would get my vote.. I hate sliders and the iPhone is too delicate much like my Ipod Touch.. I have a Nokia 6220C with aGPS, useful if I get lost on my way home from the pub.. A Nuvi 250W for the car and a GPS60Csx for caching... But on a more serious note, neither of the fones is water resistant, so wet weather caching or a dunking in the stream is gonna kill them.. If I had to choose, the Nokia N96 would get my vote.
  14. The FTF would be OK, I am more concerned what the "cache" will be like say 10 or 20 "entries" down the log!!

    PQ's down?

not working for me at all.... They run, but return nothing, zip, zilch, nada!!! What's going on? It's been like this for about 2 weeks now..
  16. If you just preview it, no, if you actually run it, yes. What options are you choosing? Hint: always preview a PQ before scheduling it to run. I am just slecting local caches, within 20 miles, usual attributes for cache size, availability etc.. The query seems to run, but returns nothing, zip, zilch, nada.. Is anyone else getting this problem?

  18. I've tried to run a simple query to get local caches. Everytime it returns nothing. This has been an issue for ages, and at first I thought it was probably just a glitch, but now I aint so sure.. Do the empty results count against my 5 a day?
  19. Definitely get a decent LED torch.. I have a 2d cell Maglite with the 3 watt LED conversion, fitted with 10,000mah Ni-Mh rechargeables, and I also carry a 3 watt Mini-Maglite fitted with 2,900mah Ni-Mh batts. I find the quality of light from LED torches to be better than filament bulbs, some will say different, but each to their own. One useful item is a red filter for your torch.. Stops you losing your night vision sensitivity.. Don't do what I did, and drive to the cache site, only to find the GPSr was still at home.... DOH!!!
  20. I just knew there would be a use for the ex-police body armour I bought on Ebay!
  21. Silica gel sachets have no practical use in any form of cache. They are designed to absorb a small amount of humidity inside a packaged product, presumably during air shipping (when the drop in temperature means that condensation can be a problem). They don't have some magic quality that allows them to absorb an unlimited quantity of moisture, unless you dry them out; so once they're "full", which takes about two days in the outdoors in autumn, they stay that way. Write - sorry, "Rite™" - in the rain paper is a good idea because it's not only fairly damp-proof, it can also take quite a lot of scrunching. Logs in PET preforms suffer from that more than most because of the friction involved in getting the log in and out. Well, I beg to differ on the silica sachet idea... They do absorb the small amount of atmospheric moisture in the tube.. As long as it aint sopping wet.. And I do change them every couple of weeks for fresh baked ones.... My logs are printed to fit the tube, and no folding, scrunching or bending is needed!!!! And my "write in the rain" paper aint the usual stuff.. I get it as offcuts from military maps.. Hence the WRITE in the rain!
  22. I now use bottle preforms for my micros.. They are extremely strong, and waterproof. Just how waterproof depends on how tight the finder puts the top back on, but I also pop a small silica gel sachet in mine and use "write in the rain" type paper for the logbook just in case. I've also knocked up a "holster" to make attaching to "objects" easier..
  23. Have a play with the garmin POI loader.. It's a freebie, and works great with my Nuvi.. http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ Paul.
  24. yes it is dual core intel what ever that means, I do have trouble with some stuff that is pc I keep getting messages that I need a plug in I follow the links but it just takes me to links to download sites and I can't tell which is the one I need . anyhelp to run pc stuff would be appreciated, as you can tell I am not very techy If you have the Intel based mac, why not run BOOTCAMP and dual boot the thing with Windows XP? OR VMware will run on a mac, and then run a "virtual" install of XP.. The only pain in the derierre is that you need to install XP! Hope this helps, and yes, it's techie, but that's my day job!! PAUL.
  25. If the keys are physically OK, and just not good electrically, you can get a rubber keypad repair kit to restore the functionality.. http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse.j...+1001458+500001 I've used this kit on duff Sky remotes, mobile fones etc, with great results.. And at only about £15, it aint gonna break the bank! P.
