  1. Why not look for a secondhand GPS? Most people take good care of their kit, so you should be able to pick up a bargain...
  2. It's gotta be said that Garmins customer service is absolutely brilliant.. Last week, I called technical support to query a problem I had with my Colorado 300. It refused to write to the any memory card that I put in it. After about 10 mins on the fone, I was asked if I minded sending it back for "repair"... I sent the bare C300 to garmin on Wednesday afternoon, expecting a lengthy turn round time.. Yesterday a brand new boxed with all accessories C300 arrived, complete with unlock codes for the Topo maps I had registered with the duff C300! Total time from fone call to replacement was 4 1/2 days, including a weekend! If the Garmin bods read this, CHEERS from a very happy punter!
  3. The only times that PQ's are slow to arrive for me is Friday evenings and all day Saturday.. All other times, they arrive in a minute or so.. But you can guarantee that if I decide to do a spot of random caching in a new area, then the bloody PQ won't show until I get home!!
  4. I did this one (and its nearby sister cache GCMYD6) yesterday, after NZKEKO emailed me the final co-ords. First one to holler from NZ gets the co-ords for GCMYD6!!
  5. I have a 60CSx and a Colorado 300, both are great. The Colorado has a great paperless feature.. Saves having to lug reams of cache listings with you! The standard base map is crap.. Worse than useless! Both my GPSr's have the free OSM maps compiled by Talkytoaster loaded, I also use the Garmin Topo GB maps for the missing OSM areas....
  6. Mythbusters did this a few weeks back... Anything that moves gets bulls charging, regardless of colour.. Oh, there was another article in todays SUN about a farmer that got trampled for the second time, and is now in hospital.
  7. Calves or not, and open field or not, the fact is that there have been several incidents in the past year where usually benign cows have injured or killed people. For me, the best place for a cow to be is either behind a fence, or on my plate cooked medium rare!
  8. I saw this on the BBC website.... Stampeding Cows I for one will no longer be traipsing through a field of cows assuming they are benign...
  9. I use FF exclusively at home, and i am forced to use IE at work... With Windows 7 just about to pop up on the horizon, and the fact that it will not ship with IE in Europe, just how will you connect to the interweb to download a different browser?
  10. Guilty as charged! I have a stack of trackables that I need to put in caches.. Sometimes I forget to take the trackables bag with me, other times I am in a rush due to impending muggles and some times I just don't think the hidey hole is sufficiently muggle proof. Call me daft, but I feel that I have a responsibility to the trackable owner to hide the item in a safe cache.
  11. Pretty certain last time I was in France you couldn't use sat nav traffic camera POIs. I couldn't remember how to turn the dm things off and covered quite a bit of mileage only seeing one camera. It's on the road out of Calais. I suspect they don't have any others either! There are a couple outside Serre Chevalier, on the road to Italy.
  12. My Colorado occasionally has a brainfart and the co-ords can be upto 150 feet out, but only when the batteries start to fade. I'm tight, and dont like replacing the batts until they die completely.. I really should invest in a few sets of decent NiMh cells.. (My new torch takes 8 AA's!!!! )
  13. I have a Colorado 300 and a 60CSX.. Both are great. In terms of sheer performance as a GPS, the 60CSX is better, but the paperless caching, built in caches found log and bigger screen make the Colorado the better option. Looks like you are in the UK, so the free OSM maps, as compiled by talkytoaster, will work fine on both of these GPSr's...
  14. If its gotta be Garmin, I think your choices for OS mappery capable devices are the Colorado or the Oregon.. The maps aint cheap though, and from what I have read, they are quite limited in scope. Have a mooch at the Satmap Active 10.. This one also uses OS mappery.
  15. It would be interesting to see some real usage figures for the KML.. From what I have read on this forum, it seems to be a feature that is definitely required. Maybe it's time to have a poll to see what people think, and who knows, maybe the bods in charge will resurrect it..
  16. My callsign is G7ALW Active on HF, 6m, 2m and 70cms. I can usually be found lurking on 7.070, so if you want a chat, holler away! Very active on 70cms when looking for lost rockets... So next wekend will be a good one for me!
  17. I will say that this is a really great idea.. My mini-Brat, aged 6, is a micro cache magnet.. He seems to be able to find them with zero effort in all the low down, sneaky hidey holes! We love micros here!!!
  18. Congrats to ME! I got my 200th find yesterday..
  19. Yup - same here - it's how I plan caching abroad........ not only for me, but for my parents too... Hmmmmmmm I use the KML almost daily, only when work gets in the way do I leave it alone! I don't know where the magic number of 200 came from, but someone somewhere must be picking random numbers out of thin air! The discussions on the main forums kinda prove that the KML is a very useful and wanted feature.
  20. Buy it now.. Go on, I double dare you! ! I bought a Colorado 300 a few weeks back, and can definitely recommend them, and with Mr T. Toasters free maps, they work extremely well. And my 60CSx still gets used loads strapped to my mountain bike.
  21. Have you tried using Firefox as your browser? I have read that people have "issues" with Internet Explorer.. I just tested using a random cache, and it sent fine to my Colorado 300 with Firefox 3.0.8...
  22. I went to SpecSavers, and was told I didn't need glasses, so I went and bought a Colorado300 to keep my 60CSx company! If only Garmin would make a chimera out of the Colorado and 60CSx... I like the 60's buttons and rocker, and love the paperless caching of the Colorado, but I am not sure I am a fan of the "rock n roller" wheel thingy!!!
  23. Jersey is great for caching.. I recently had a mucky romantic weekend there.. I wanna go back! Only managed to do 13 caches, and a couple of DNF's, but it was a great way to see some of the lesser known bits of the island. A DNF that stands out to me is the one at Kirren Island... GC1H511... Def rates up there with some of the great locations..
  24. Welcome to the game... It is not dumb to ask questions.. Ask away, and eventually you will be the one giving the answers!
