  1. Just a little update on the Large letters group: We currently have 2 members(Including myself) so I believe that if one more person joins we can start making catagories!
  2. Large Letters group founder: david g date created: 5/3/2006 Mission: To manage a catagory having to do with large letters on hills/mountains. As soon as we have enough officers, I will make a catagory having to do with large letters on hills/mountains. I believe that this used to be a locationless cache, but it never got moved over to Waymarking. Don't worry, the actual catagory will have a more interesting name then "Large Letters." (suggestions are welcome)
  3. Like the on/off button on your speaker? I always have the knob on my speaker all the way down until I want to hear something.
  4. http://www.jeeep.com/details/coord/ This site will convert coords to other formats.
  5. Try and save it as a 256 color bmp, then see if you still have the color problem. If it is currently saved as a grayscale bitmap, then when you try to paint purple, it rounds it to the neares grey.
  6. Yoor GPS assumes that purple is clear. 1) open your image wiith MS Paint and click on "Edit colors" under the "Colors" menu. 2) click on "define custom colors". 3) enter 255 in the red and blue boxes and 0 in the green box. 4) click OK. 5) Then select the "fill with color" tool (its on the left, the paint bucket pouting paint out) 6) click(with the fill tool) somewhere around your image, it should turn purple. 7) save your image
  7. how will i know it is the right size in ms paint? Y = 16/X Where X = the images current width(or height) and Y = the percent to multiply the image by to get 16 In paint go to Attributes, under Image and find its current width and height. So if you have an image that it 72*64 (width*height) then do 16/72=.2222 and 16/64=.25 Then go to the stretch/skew box(under the image menu) and in the stretch box enter 22%(you need to round to the nearest whole percent) in the horizontal box and 25% in the vertical box and click OK.
  8. The ghost is already 16*16, so if you work with it, it will save you some work. So, at the ghost you need to right click the ghost and click "save as" and save it to your computer, then, open it in MS Paint and click "Save as" (under "File") and change "save as type" to "256 Color Bitmap". If you want to send it to your GPS, then name it "Waypoint Symbol XXX"(Where XXX is any number between 000 and 023) and put it in the "ximage" folder (most likely C:\\Program Files\Garmin\ximage\). If you want to put it into Map Source name it "XXX"(Where XXX is any number between 000 and 063) (Don't forget to make it a BMP) and there you have your Virtual geocache icon. To do the rest(ie-traditional, multi, etc) go back at the the ghost and look at the bar at the top and yoy will see http://www.geocaching.com/images/wpttypes/sm/4.gif/. Now, change the 4.gif to 2.gif and repeat the process. (then change 2 to 3 etc) If this does not answer your question and you still want to know how to make something 16*16, Open the file in MS Paint and under image click on stretch/skew and type in percents until it is the right size.
  9. Well, Nobby, somebody went there, 'cause if you aim a laser at a certain spot, it will bounce off an array of corner reflectors and return to you. I've seen it done. First of all, a one-inch wide laser shot at the moon would be about six inches wide when it arrived and even more dispersed when it came back. Secondly, even if it were reflected from an object on the moon, the chances of it being reflected directly back to its source are extre-e-emely remote. Tertiatily, I wasn't aware any of our landers had safety reflectors stuck on them! (Maybe it was some kid's bicycle!) I thought an Apollo mission left a big reflector so NASA could measure the distance between the earth and the moon accurately with a laser.
  10. Everything Park2 said is correct to get map source to have custom images. To get images to send to your GPS name it "Waypoint Symbol ###.bmp" as a 16*16 in 256 color(when saving, below the "File Name" box there is a "Save As Type", and change it to "256 Color Bitmap"). And instead of Stretch/skewing the inages down to 16*16, just use these images, they are already 16*16, just convert them to 256 Clolor BMP.
  11. Jolly-Rodger and Sputnik 57 posted links to compressed versions of the full size versions, and are therefore low quality. For better 16*16 icons go to http://www.geocaching.com/images/wpttypes/sm/2.gif, 3.gif, etc... But you will need to convert them to 256 color BMPs with purple backgrounds.(purple is the transparent color on your GPS and Map Source) As I said before I have already done this work so if you send me an email I can send you the icons.
  12. At first I compressed the geocaching icons, but they didn't turn out to good. Then I realized that GSAK had perfect 16*16 icons(except for the webcam, which looked like it had been compressed). If anyone wants them I can send most of them in a compressed folder
  13. My brother has a legend but when we hooked it up the only option was to screen capture.
  14. Did this ever happen, if so please post the link. I bet a couple people have already turned the geocaching symbols into 16*16 icons and sent them to their GPS. Including ME. Jolly-Rodger posted a link to here but I did not like the big checkmark so I redrew it with the lid off instead and I am currently using that now.
  15. I have made custom images(ie-traditional, traditional found, multi, multi found, etc), and configured GSAK to send the custom images to the GPS. It appears that the images need to be 16*16, BMP(not GIF), named "Waypoint Symbol XXX.bmp", and saved in 256 color or less or else Ximage will not recognize them. As for configuring GSAK, its own help file says: You can add custom icons to send down to your GPSr or mapping software if they support it. You can also use this feature if there is some icon symbol missing from the defaults provided by GSAK. Just add the icon names you would like to see in the drop down icon boxes by placing them in the correct text file in the install folder of GSAK. The corresponding text files are: Garmin GPS and Mapsource = GarminOther.txt Magellan and Mapsend = MagellanOther.txt Comments can be added by using a ; (semi colon) followed text. Any data after and including the semi colon is stripped from the icon name before export. For example, you made up 5 custom icons for your Garmin 60cs. Include these in GSAK by adding the following lines to GarminOther.txt and place this file in the install folder of GSAK Custom 0 ; sad face Custom 1 ; smiley face Custom 2 ; big tree Custom 3 ; hazard Custom 4
  16. The Etrex legend and the etrex legend c can do it.See the Manual for the etrex legend C (pg 14). And the boxes are customizable to show the lat/lon.
  17. Are selenographic coordinates only used on the moon, or are they type of coordinates? Whether or not they are only used on the moon the we need to add a "Select Planet" drop down box on the search page. (Then a "Select Galaxy" box)
  18. Has anyone wondered what will happen when someone places a cache on the moon? (or other planet) How will the coordinated be viewed? Will we use the same format and add a letter to the beginning? (i.e. - M) I realize that it will be awhile before the moon even has satellites to run a GPS. But all of the geocachers ready to put the 1st geocache on the moon are going to run into a real problem.
  19. Had an Etrex legend but the screen became messed up so I recently bought a etrex legend c.
  20. I think that this is required!! I think it should be viewable from the cach search page so when planning a trip you don't need to read every description to see if it requires special attention.
  21. I, not being old enough to drive, placed my first cache along a bike trail near our house. Our family also plans to go camping a lot this summer and we hope to do some caches then.
