You are worried, and for good reason, here's my story.
When a friend of me introduced me to Geocaching he gave me a coin for a present, to get me motivated.
At first it did not work, the coin was in a drawer for almost 2 years.
Then in May 2010 I decided to let the coin go, I looked for a nice cache and found : Tintagel Castle
Yes. the one that is said to behave been used by king Arthur himself. (its not true by the way)
I traveled over 700 Kilometers (on Holiday ) and dropped my beautiful Dutch Geocoin 2007 in the cache.
Logged it directly and a couple of days later, someone logged that the gecoin was nowhere to be found
I am very disappointed, Tintagel Castle was only my second cache found, I dropped my first ever geocoin and now it seems to be taken never to appear again
My friend is dissapointed to, he had hoped for a better start for me.
However, I will assume this to be bad luck and will have another go in the future......
