  1. You are correct....not sure how it relates to the topic at hand...but I will try harder in the future. What the heck is going on around here? Who knows what was said.....hopefully not random (or even proerly directed) insults. Are you trying to win us over with tough loved? I think I did the bad quote thing again. I've acutally never done it correctly with the person's name listed. Ignore this detour, my previous post stands.
  2. Agreed....and the reviewer can help you find an open spot without repeated attempts. Which, under the plan that is being floated, might lock you out (since if it didn't, it would be even easier to brute force a puzzle cache.). A reviewer can help you in ONE step. And the greatest thing, that system is in place now! Just because something is "new" (or someone thinks their idea is), that doesn't make it better. I'm not sure random insults will help your case. Unless it's a part of your new automated system....
  3. Then don't use the word promote. Seems that Geocaching is all about semantics.....if you promote something, but use the "right" words, it'll be allowed....even if your intent is the same. Read the thread, other cachers are telling you how to do it.....
  4. Well.....WWJD was a popular phrase a couple years back...and everyone knew what Snoogans meant.......I don't remember HB being popular...... Well that's just silly....you were never rendered speechless...I have the thread to prove it! Seriously, is this a "test thread" to use for new admins? Alan Funt, are you out there....where's the camera? Haven't seen Keystone around....HHHHHHMMMMMM......never seen them together.....
  5. Not to be argumentative (well, not more than usual)....but might others also consider those items "junk?" Just askin'......
  6. This thread is a joke, right? Unbelievable! I clicked on the smiley to the left without actually typing my smileys.....did I cheat? This thread is going to be legendary someday!! And I was there to see the slow motion trainwreck....that NEVER ENDS!! The first time I tired to post this, I got this message "You have posted a message with more emoticons that this board allows. Please reduce the number of emoticons you've added to the message" LOL......
  7. Taking spots that aren't good anyway? What does that MEAN? Unfortunately, reviewers don't get to judge whether an hide is clever. And you don't get to replace a hide when it is not up to your standards. Like others have said, lead by example. Hide the hides you like. For all you know, these folks you're talking about are doing the same...
  8. Did you see how happy those premium members looked? But I'm an Ununoctium Member..........so our face are frozen like that!!
  9. It's weird how everything seems better in the rear view mirror. I'm guessing that since the were so few caches, you really couldn't pass one up for one 500 ft away (there probably wasn't one). I'm guessing those who owned GPSr back in '01 might not have been normal people. They were probably more adventurous to begin with. I'm sure you could still find an adventure, you just have to look in the right place.
  10. zero.........most of the time we cache in the local area if we are running other errands anyway. I myself like caches that require hiking more than anything, so I'm usually not out driving from cache to cache. The last two weekends we have traveled 70+ miles to go caching....but we would have probably gone to these locations anyway to spend time had we not been geocachers. We combine activities we normally do with geocaching. Don't get me wrong....I ain't rich by any means....but spending time with the wife and kids in an activity we all enjoy (and going out on a walk on a new trail)....that's pretty priceless. Don't worry....I'm cheap...I penny-pinch in other areas, but I've never said, "hey guys let's stay home" because I was worried about the price of gas. I HAVE said, "Hey, let's not go out to eat today....."
  11. I would....but I would make use the date that I found it (some people seem to forget to do this).
  12. But what if the most amazing thing is just out of frame?
  13. We actually have a very good reviewer in the area (Roadrunner) who periodically looks for distressed caches that have tons of DNF's (when there was nothing but finds before) and disabled it. He/she leaves a nice note asking to check on the cache. If it stays disabled for months, it then get archived. If you look at a map of our area, we don't have a lot of disabled caches. I once looked at a map from my old hometown (SD, CA).....I couldn't believe the number of disabled caches. Sometimes in our area, we have caches that get muggled, the owner acknowledges it is missing, but forgets to disable it. Usually an SBA with a note saying it should be disabled seems to work, too.
  14. I figured that was his writing style (actually a bit like mine, I must admit). Very entertaining. I will agree, if there were more caches with ill-gotten lute from bank heists, Geocaching would really take off! Somehow, McToys don't fill that void.... And the answer to that question......they think we're psychopathic killers hiding bodies in the desert. Not far from the truth...
  15. I usually estimate using the scale at the bottom of the map........
  16. Hey, no need to rub it in!! I think you have...............an AGENDA (dum, dum duuuuummmm). Although I used to live there as a kid, after we moved from Guam. Bet you can't figure out what my dad did......
  17. Rrrriiiiiiggggghhhhht. Couldn't the owner at least disable the ones that seem to have problems? That seems like the best course of action until they can be replaced or checked on. Yes, it was a little harsh. But the owner should be a little more cognizant about what's going on. If not, disable them until you get back into the game. The whole "life gets in the way" argument seems to be THE excuse for absolution. But it may actually be accurate. Like I said, they should disable the ones that have nothing but a string of DNF when most logs before them had smiley's.
  18. Or Groundspeak being a evil empire....not the way to "used to be"...... That said, I have a new game. If I look on the Geocaching wesite, and see a green box on a map, I've found it. Neat game, huh?
  19. Yeah, I'm feeling a bit let down. I would have like to see, at the very least, the chief of police tell the news cameras how dangerous it was because, had there been keys in there, they could have put out an eye.
  20. Well, I disagree with the OP and so do many other geocachers. Apparently, I'm only a secondary or maybe even a tertiary defender. I just happen to like many types of caches and don't feel the need for the self-appointed cache police. That's all....
  21. First, I'm not sure I believe that cache must be in a "safe" location. There are many caches where one needs to repel, etc. in order to find a cache. I believe it was archived because its location can cause a commotion: a "device" found on a major bridge seems to draw a lot of attention. Unfortunately, owners can delete your log. Really, that's it. After bringing this issue from the first thread here, I would have just assumed that the owner was going to do that. Is it "fair"? Probably not. But it is the owner's prerogative.
