Obviously, that type of cache is going to be slow to roll out considering the devices needed. I will save my praise or derision until more of these caches have been place and I have the hardware to access one.

Seemed to be a hiccup last night. Stats not loading on Groundspeak profiles. Things seems to be back to normal. Another day on the Internet.

Same reason people start and stop: Jogging, cycling, reading the Bible, tap lessons, music lessons...basically name any hobby!! For some people, some things are fun because they are new. When they stop being new, they're not fun anymore. On to the next new thing. Other people, for what ever reason, find certain things entertaining....even if they do it over, and over, and over, and over, and over...... It's just human nature.

It was actually a rhetorical question. But my point is, a list can be generated. The data are there. Now, whether it should be is another question all together.

Well, have we actually seen a situation like that? I agree that TPTB (ha!) have the ultimate say. But if 100%.....heck, maybe even 60% of cachers have an opinion, I TPTB would want to listen, lest they alienate a HUGE chunk of the community. -
Although the Etrex-H (B&W) obviously has this capability. I have the Etrex-H...black and white...no maps. Does it work? Yes! Do I find caches? Easily! Do I wish I can a color mapping unit.....YES!! If you have the $.....go with color. If you are on a limited budget and the B&W are the only one you can afford, you can still enjoy geocaching and find caches. After using my wife's Magellan Sport TRac (which in its heyday was nicer than the Etrex IMO), I can attest to the "-H" being able to pick up a signal faster and in more-obstructed locations where the older GPS will not.....or just take a longer time.

I think that's called synergy....it's a good thing. That way, the game can hit the ground running. Instead of saying, "Hey here's a new game that no one can play right now because it doesn't work on anything." Seems smart to me....no black helicopters. Next thing you'll be telling me that the sport of Geocahing actually promotes the sales GPSrs. Makes me wonder...hhhnmmmmm.....

Just think what non-geocachers think. To play the game I have to dump money into a GPS unit? Elitists!! And those caches where you need a boat? Or you need to know how to repel? What about the homeless...they never get to geocache..... Looking forward to other threads about geocaching disparities.

How does the submission "know" which queue to go to? That's my point. It is assigned to someone. Therefore a reviewers' name (and queue) has to be associated with coordinates so the submissions can be routed to the correct person. Seems that these data could be displayed somehow. I guess in instances where reviewers are "covering" for someone, obviously, the data would be incorrect. For me, it would be interesting to see how the U.S. is sliced up by reviewers. Just wondering what the pushback is all about.

I'm going to say no to that one. While he certainly has shaped the sport through this specific listing site, I think it's the geocachers who ultimately define what it is. If he discontinued a type of geocaching (listen say, for instance, micros) and "enough people" spoke out, he would probably have to revert it to keep the natives happy...and to stay in business. So, why aren't virtuals on the site? "Enough people" apparently don't agree. -
Seems to work for caches. Also, if it's such a problem to keep up with who's where, how do they know whom to send cac he submissions. Someone, or a computer, most likey has this info at all times. It's probably more of a question of if it's worth the time to create code to display it. All I know is that my reviewer is in NV...and I'm not.
-
While that is an OK quasi-work around, why can't they just display the distance?

I noticed that back when I was attempting to view earth caches within an area. More than 500 Earthcaches in the PHX area? Oh, no......it "sees" all the caches. Would be nice if this could be changed, but I'm fine with it, I guess. I could always run PQ's if I really want to filter things out.

What was the first geocache too small for swag?

Ok, so now, who was the first person to complain about 'em? -
Let's see 'em...

Well, the size is a category. Now, if we could choose to see certain sizes on the maps. Ah, a dream for another time. What really gets my goat....is that sometimes Altoids tins are micros, sometimes they're small.......even if it is the same container.....I think the micros definitions need to be better defined......but who wants to waste their time on that battle? -

But bringing back virtuals would also be selling their product, no? Well that's just it, the OP did not say, "hey, we can make it better this way......" The tone of that post was much more confrontational and seemed to be more about complaining about known rules (and the BIG BAD reviewers). It seemed more about blowing off steam than anything. That's different than wanting to find a way to change the rules for the betterment of geocaching. And the title of the thread "Taking the Fun ot of GeoCaching" Just a bit of hyperbole, maybe? -

Probably the same reason we don't ask the owner of the cache to remove it everyday at dusk. Yeah, and why don't we blame banks for having all that money on hand after they get robbed? -
Bank parking lot....I would hope that most hiders are smarter than that. What they couldn't find a place to put it at the nearby dare care center? Of course...that's what they're paid to do. Even though that's a very loaded term. Yeah, I was walking through a park one day looking for a place to hide a cache. One of the neighbors working in his garage always checked on me every couple of minutes. Obviously a male in a park is up to no good. Plus, I had my hiking clothes on, probably looked close to homeless. Wish I had my wife, kids and dog with me (or any one of them)....I'd look much less suspicious.

HA!! Finally someone admits it!!
