  1. Here's one about 20-30 minutes off the I-State in between Nashville and Knoxville that is about the best cache I've ever done is Geo-Mojo 14 National Treasure/.
  2. When will you be down in our neck of the woods? I have a bookmark list to get you started. Keep checking it, I need to do some updating. http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...eb-2a57ecdb29af
  3. It is in the second line of my original response.
  4. Two choices. If it is completely different from the original hide you might want to archive it and submit a new cache. The other option is to contact the person who reviewed the cache and published it. They can update the coords.
  5. I started with an eXplorist 210 and the moved to an eXplorist 500 and got my mother an eXplorist 400. They are great units and every bit as accurate as any of the Garmins with the high sensitivity chips, and much more accurate then the Etrex line without the H in the modal name. First you need to make sure that the GPSr is setup correctly. Menu, Preferences, Map Units, set Coord System to Lat/Lon and Map Datum to WGS84. Next turn your unit on and set it outside with a clear line of site to the clear sky and leave it for 30 minutes. This will download the satellite data and let it settle in. After that you should notice a big difference.
  6. To get the GPX files you need to create a pocket querry ( http://support.Groundspeak.com//index.php?...page&id=118 ). This will generate the GPX file and either email it to you or email you a link to it (less than 500 email, 501-1000 link). You now need to get it on the GPS. If you have TOPO9 (shipped with Delormes sold in the last few weeks) then you probably have firmware 2.8 (if not TOPO9 can update your GPSr). The easiest way is to setup TOPO9 to log into your Geocaching account and download the file than transfer it to your GPSr. One thing to keep in mind if you do this, the file Geocaching.com sends you has two GPX files in it. One is the caches and one is the child waypoints (parking coords, trailheads, stages in a multi, etc.). If you choose 1000 caches in your PQ (pocket querry) than when Topo9 merges these files you will end up with more than 1000 waypoints. The PN series can only load 1000 so Topo9 will not be able to transfer the file. Make your PQ for 900 or less. You can also use a program call Geocaching Swiss Army Knife (GSAK). This is a database program that will take all of your PQs and merge them into a searchable database. It also has a built in program to convert and transfer the waypoints to almost all kinds of GPSrs. It will work with all firmware versions of the Delorme's. If you have firmware 2.7 or older on your Delorme you can buy a program from Delorme called Cache Register. This also links to your GC account and transfers the PQs to your unit. It is not officially supported with firmware 2.8. I have heard of people using it, though. Delorme says version 2 of Cache Register will work and come with Firmware 2.8. Hope this helps a bit.
  7. I can back this up. I work for a company that installs gate, camera, and access systems for gated communities. Most have cameras, if they review the recordings and have proof that your car got damaged because you tailgated (the term used for following another car in without using your own access card) you will not get 1 cent out of the community for your damages. I've seen pics of some very expensive cars with very nasty paint and body damage and the owner was out of pocket on that.
  8. Give them a call. I did when my Explorist 210 went loco. They replaced it with a Triton 300. Maybe they'll have a solution for you.
  9. How far do you want to travel? Looking at the map it seems that they don't allow caches in that park. But down the road in Dickson, TN there are a few to find. If you will travel a bit check out my bookmark list. http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...eb-2a57ecdb29af
  10. I agree! I usually send a welcome note to people who find my caches and have just started. Most I never hear from. But a few have stuck with the game and have improved caching in my area. One I contacted was discouraged by a couple of hides he had some issues with and archived one he didn't have a problem with because of the others. I sent him an encouraging note (yes, it can be done!) and he has stuck with caching, put his archived hide back out, and in general been a great ambassador for our hobby. Remember, the more new cachers we bring in the more caches we get to find! Another big benefit to offering kind encouragement to newbies, they'll be more inclined to take constructive criticism if and when it is needed. They might even ask for it themselves. If you want to make caching a better experience then be a good example and make yourself approachable to newbies.
  11. Very well put, TABjuggler! Even if someone turns out to be a troll it does not help the situation to pile on abuse. If you think the poster is a troll don't reply. If you think others are being taken in, let it go. Does it really matter? Its not like anyone is going to get hurt by showing a little kindness to another on the forums.
  12. Look at the first log of any recently published cache in your area, that will be one of your local reviewers. You can email him\her and ask them, they can give you a yes\no on the placement. But they will not tell you where a final may be hidden if there is one there.
  13. The best thing to do is try to locate a local club in your area. You could also try posting in the regional forum for your area at the bottom of the forums list. If you are nervous about posting your area but want some help locating a local club you can email me through my profile.
  14. If I have an acceptable replacement I have.
  15. The Send to GPS plug in is not a Groundspeak code, it is written by the individual GPSr manufactures. Delorme changed the way the PN-30/40/60 communicates, this broke thier Send to plug in and they have not released their fix yet.
  16. Maybe it is the Garmin that is off by at least 10 feet to the north?
  17. Download Google Maps for the Blackberry to your phone. Next download and install either Cachesense or Blackstar Navigator to your phone. Import the caches you want to hunt in the software you choose. Then in the menu of that software it will be able to display the cache you have selected in Google Maps for Mobile.
  18. What browser are you using? The send to feature is broken in Firefon 3.6. You can downgrade to 3.5 or use IE. Put your Coordinates Primary to Degrees, Minuites and your Datum Primary to WGS84.
  19. From what I can tell from a quick Google search that phone is on the Verizon network. Also does not seem to be a "smartphone", Blackberry, Android, Windows Mobile, etc. I am not aware of any software for this phone, unless I am wrong about the OS of the phone. Also, Verizon had a nasty habit of locking the GPSr on their phones to only their Navigation software. They have recently started unlocking it but only on new phones. You would be better off looking through the Garage Sale forum for a cheap used GPSr.
  20. It depends on the size of the venue and how strong you are. Nobody I'm aware of is that strong though. Maybe Superman? Sorry, I couldn't resist! But you are correct. You don't need to go all out. Just post it to be at a pizza buffet or some other public place and watch everybody get together and talk caching. I had on on the day of Geowoodstock to try to console ourselves over the fact that we couldn't go and had about 50 people show up. Great fun.
  21. What kind of phone do you have? You may already have a GPSr.
  22. Blackstar Navigation is free and Cacheberry is free to try then $10 US to keep. Try both and see what you like.
  23. I came from a Magellan eXplorist 210, 400, 500 and did not have any outside lighting issues with with them. I personally have not had any issues outside with my PN-30. It has been a great unit. But keep in mind what our fearful forum leader, the infamous robertlipe says, "All GPSrs suck. They just suck in different ways." He should know, he has one or two (or 76) GPSrs.
  24. I have a Blackberry 8530 and used to have a BB 8330m. Both have Geocaching apps. The Palm Pre, any phone running Android or Windows Mobile also have apps for them.
