  1. I don't have a problem with COs seeing that I visited their page but that lady emailing was over the top. I just adopted one MOC and found it interesting to see who has looked at it compared to who has logged it. But I would never email them asking why.
  2. The Delorme PN series with the 2.7 firmware can do the same thing. I can load multiple GPX files on the SD card and switch out in the field. Granted 4000 would be nicer than 1000, but I moved from an Explorist which allowed 200!
  3. I use GSAK all of the time. At the top of the page there is a drop down menu called GPS. Choose Setup, choose Delorme, then choose PN-40 (or whatever you have). Now under that same menu choose Send Waypoints, choose your settings and send. That simple. Some of the options I've chosen. I click on change symbols and then combine both. Now I can go through and choose the icons I want displayed on the screen such as the Geocache Found icon for caches I've found. I include child waypoints and set it to include 10 past logs. I also only send 990 caches, that way if a new cache is published I can use the Send to GPS feature and have room for it. With the 2.7 firmware you can also save that file to your SD card and send another 1000 caches to the unit from GSAK and keep repeating until you have filled the card up.
  4. I just got a PN-30 which is the PN-40 without the electronic compass. It comes with a disc of Topo maps for Canada. As for loading I can hook it up to my computer, pull up the cache page, click Send to GPS, unplug and go hunt the cache. However the best way I have found is to load my PQs into GSAK, hook my GPSr to the computer, pick a cache in the center of the area and make it the center point (since I have 14000 caches in GSAK), under the GPS drop down menu choose Send Waypoints (provided you have chosen PN-30\40 under Setup), tell it 990 caches and click send. This will put 990 caches with all info into my unit. With the version 2.7 firmware I can save those caches to a file on my SD card, pick another center point and repeat the send process. I can repeat this many times and end up with all 14000 caches on my GPSr and change files as needed out in the field. This is great if you are planning a trip and will be in different areas. If you do not have GSAK get it and learn to use it, you'll love it.
  5. I have two Explorists and used to have a 210. I found Geocaching Swiss Army Knife to be the best way to generate the .gs files. Then hook up the GPSr to the computer and move the files in just like a USB drive.
  6. YUP! Not much more to look into, actually. For example, one of my GPX files has 330 caches and it takes about 1MB storage. The 1000 cache limit, as TotemLake notes, applies to each individual GPX file. Consequently, as a rough estimate, a GPX file with the max of 1000 caches would require about 3MB on an SD card. Most of us run 16GB cards, so............. I have about 16000 caches on my PN-30s SD card, takes up about 100mbs.
  7. I also upgraded to 2.7. It was very simple and painless. Can't see a reason not to do it. Saving multiple GPX file on the SD card is priceless.
  8. I just got a PN-30. I load all of my PQs into GSAK, connect my GPS, choose Send to GPS, and tell it to send 990 caches, done.
  9. Not only do you need to go to pedestrian mode but also offroad mode. You will find however that a handheld GPSr will work better. Use the 250W to route you to parking and the handheld to the cache. You can find a good used unit for under $100. New units for about $150. And full peperless for $200-$500.
  10. The Explorist 100, 200, and 300 are not computer up/downloadable. Only the 210, 400, 500, 600, and XL.
  11. First, on the pages showing up as found email the site owners and they will figure out what is up. I've had two or three issues and every time they either fixed it or explained my error. Second, now that you have unchecked what you don't want you have to regenerate the HTML and repaste it in your Geocaching.com profile page. You have to do this any time you add or remove features.
  12. Thanks a lot!! First my wife and kids and now you? 41 is not old!!!! Now excuse me while I go take my meds and chase those pesky kids off my lawn! Ohhhh!!! Murder She Wrote is coming on!!!! Crap! Its during my nap time! You could always get your twelve year old to set up your DVR for you! Don't trust those new fangled machines! Goes against nature. If God wanted us to have DVRs he would not have created BetaMax!
  13. Thanks a lot!! First my wife and kids and now you? 41 is not old!!!! Now excuse me while I go take my meds and chase those pesky kids off my lawn! Ohhhh!!! Murder She Wrote is coming on!!!! Crap! Its during my nap time!
  14. Hey officer! I just found a tin with cocaine and $200,000........I mean $100,000 in it!
  15. Delorme has a mapping product just for what you want called XMap7 that works with their PN-34/40 GPSrs. I have the PN-30 and it is an excellent unit. Full paperless and very accurate.
  16. TN Cacher and The Seanachai are both our Tennessee Reviewers. Since you have TN Cachers link up above I'll provide The Seanachai's below. I know both of these reviewers and know them to be very fair, however they do go by the guidelines. I had a hide less then 528 feet from another with a railline between them. On both sides of the railline was a fence. There was no way you could find the other by accident. It was listed untill I moved it. My understanding is stages of a Multi have to follow the same guidelines. I do know that if you email either for guidance they both will help you figure out a way to get it listed within the guidelines. http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=78...ce-eb5a2d8dbab4
  17. DANG!!!!! Why couldn't you have listed your multi last week? I was just in Miami, OK last Tuesday!!!!!!!
  18. Not quite as dense, but when we did out 115 caches in 12 hours run we started in Manchester, TN ran through Tullahoma, Estil Springs, Winchester, and back up to Manchester.
  19. If I follow the story, a cacher hides and publishes a cache, another cacher (and maybe others) finds it, you come along and DNF it, CO checks and its gone, later CO replaces, you go back and find cache. So the cacher that emailed you is correct he was the first person to find the newly published cache. You are right, you are the first to find the re-hidden cache. You are also right, who cares? If it irritates him so much just change it to say FTF the new log or something like that. And then to calm yourself down and bring peace to your life I prescribe a long day of being in the outdoors and finding caches!
  20. Try the Find function, filtering Type: Geocaches and specifying a couple of letters in the name. That seems to cut the list down nicely. Thanks. That helps alot!
  21. What firmware are you running. Also, with USB the drive letter could change each time. So don't look for the same letter each time. Today I was having a problem getting my Delorme to show up on my Vista computer. Turned out I did not have the plug on the GPSr seated correctly.
  22. I had the Windows Mobile phone and now the Blackberry. The Blackberry renders web pages better than the WM phone. The WM phone had a software for it that cannot be mentioned here that was great. Blackberry has Cacheberry that I really like. It also has Trimble Navigator (have not used it) that pulls data straight from GC.com. I have not tried an Android based phone so I can't help you there.
  23. I just got a PN-30 and used it the first time on Saturday. I am moving up from a Magellan Explorist 500. I have not owned a Garmin but I've used them a couple of times. I personally like the controls on the bottom, but that is where the Explorist buttons are so I'm used to it. When I have used the Garmins having the buttons on top seemed clunky to me. Th PN series is the most customizable I've seen. I can put the screens I use in the page button que and remove screens I don't use. I've got three, map, compass, and Geocache list. I can the list what data is shown on those screens. The paperless features are great! I have not pulled out my Blackberry all weekend. It seems supper accurate. It locks on to the satellites immediately. It does have its quirks. If you search geocaches by name there is no way to search by name. You have to scroll through them all. The Explorist would let you scroll through the first letter then you would enter at the correct letter and scroll from there. The main reason I wanted the PN series. You can only have 1000 geocaches in your unit. However with the 2.7 firmware you can have as many files as your SD card can hold and switch between them. I have all of Tennessee on my unit. You can use the POI loaded macro in GSAK to mass load the Garmins but then you lose the Geocaching features of the unit. Firmware 2.8 is supposed to make it even easier. I will not sit here and say the PN series is the absolute best unit. The Garmins are great units. But I am very happy with my choice.
  24. Sounds to me like you've got that kid trained right!
  25. If you have an REI nearby they are selling off their last PN-30s for $165. I had a buddy in LA get met two and ship them at that price.
