  6. It will be an awesome event. So far we are on track to our goals - 44 Caches are ready and waiting to found. 24 will be unpublished at the event, and 20 are existing ones with their stamps all snuggled in with the log books. All of the new Caches that we're placing along the KVR from Princeton to Osprey Lake are ready to go, and the snow is quickly going so we should be able to get into some of the higher elevation either this weekend or the next 2 weeks. This weekend we are hoping to get ready between another 30-40, with placing around 25 new ones and getting existing ones ready. This year's "Book" (See Last Years The Great Coal Rush Book for an idea) Is about 90% done, just did the first print & it's only waiting for happy new coordiantes to be placed in it. Formal Registrations are coming in quickly! And the numbers continue to Grow! The CD will be published next month as we are waiting for a special recording being done by our fiends that were written by another caching friend. We are happy to announce that the wedding will be taking place as originally thought (if we can confirm someone to marry us.. lol) Mr. Turtle will be wearing an outfit designed by Indiana Jones and Mrs. Turtle will be decked out in fairy Costume.. 7. Planning for the event is coming along in a great way - so far 200 people have confirmed through official registration or will attends that they will be there! Which makes for about 70 teams - with more registering every week - it's going to be a great time. We still have 4 months to go and next weekend will be starting to place the over 50 caches that will be published the weekend of the event! Over 40 of the 64 Poker Spots have been taken & the campfire songs are being created by the cachers.. heard one titled "The Ammo Can Can" sung to the tune of the Candy Man Can. The CD is almost finished - just have to record the stories now! I will be doing a full update tomorrow for those that are registered - however thought I would spread the word that the photo's of the coin samples has arrived! So check them out!! Back Front Hope to see you all there!
  8. We are holding an event in August - and it centers on the Mining History of the Similkameen, Called "The Great Copper Rush" - we are expecting about 400 people. So we and some friends set about looking for a couple of really great unique prizes for it. Well our friend Gearhedd found one right up our Ally.. Called the CoalCache Geocoin - the Geocoins are made out of... Coal - all hand made and each one unique.. Well we ordered 5 .. and they will be a hit for the winners of the Caching runs.. Thank you again CoalCache Coins - very cool!
  9. Just a Quick update: 1. The Coins have been ordered and are in production now 2. For those that are contemplating coming and have any questions please contact us at tulameenturtles@shaw.ca 3. There will be only 64 spots available for Poker - over 1/2 of those are gone already. 4. To date we have 98 "offically registered" cachers coming & 34 teams 5. The Popcorn Machine for the Movies under the stars has been reserved! 6. We strongly believe that we can hit 500 people to mark this as BC's first Mega Event! With the will attends that have been posted that haven't registered & those we've talked to that are coming we are at- I think at about 275 if I count them all! 7. This is a very very family friendly event - I just finished putting together 16 "kids only temporary caches" 8. For the 4x4 enthusiasts and quads - we have caches up your alley! 9. For the history Buff's we have caches up your alley! Please vist www.TURTLEPETPROJECTS.com for any information abut the event! We house the most recent cache pages that have been created there. We've also finished compiling all the music for the CD that everyone will be getting - only have to find the stories to mingle with it and finish the recording..
  10. We are happy to say that it has been published: Great Copper Rush. To date we have 25 will attends - that combined with family members and other's that have pre-registered puts us at about 75 people so far & less then a week after being published! 15 of the Poker Spots for Saturday Night Poker are already gone as well.. Will be a blast ! As a teaser - we have managed to find another ancient tramline from about 1880 that the caches will take you to, along with several areas with beautiful Core Samples.. It'll be a great August Long weekend in the Similkameen
  11. I can undertand the need to ensure the caches are where they were to start with, but we personally enjoy and primarly seek (when possible) caches that either have never been found in a year, or have had over a year since their last find. It means that the location is likely very very unique, our favorite caches that we have gotten were locations that had a cache that was over a year old and the cache was still a first to find. If it hadn't been for the cache we wouldn't have been going to the location. These caches are also normally placed for the "non city" cacher and take a good investment of time e.g. an entire weekend and we normally plan those 6 months before we go for the cache. We have very limited free time between 7 kids & working full time - so our time is precious. We would hate to see caches start getting archived because no one has gone after them, and we are personally willing to risk that a cache is "gone" as the trip is about the journey - not a piece of plastic tupperware. We know many sensitive cache owners who get anxious on their own when a cache hasn't been found in a year, and something that could be perceieved as threatening to archive could discourage placing those types of caches if they start thinking that they will have to archive them before being found - so "Why bother". Can there be an alternative method? Maybe finding a way to "flag them" There also is no way to search for "archived caches", so if we wanted to search for one that had been archived because of this - we couldn't and would end up being left with city caches which we would then start losing interest in caching - as we are addicted because of those caches that "no one else wants to get"
  12. Finally Get 1000 Host: 1 Cito Our major 3 day event in July/August Find 25 unique & beautiful locations to place caches and find the history in the area (eg old cabins, mines) so we can share with others and ensure our past isn't forgotten Claim 2 FTF caches that have been sitting there for a few years with no one getting them. 2 Good Hiking ones that take about 7 hours there and back
  13. We are happy to announce the coming of BC's Biggest Annual Caching Event - Occuring from July 30 - Aug 2, 2010 in Princeton BC. Geocache.com caching page will be submitted shortly - in the interim the information can be found here: Great Copper Rush It is a 3 day event showcasing the beautiful historic Similkameen area - Ground Zero will be the fairgrounds in Princeton. The fairgrounds have been reserved for this event and camping with showers & bathrooms is available there. We estimate between 100-150 caches will be part of the event & it is like no other caching event that we know of. 3 days of adventures accompanied by a book & cd that highlight the history of the areas that you will be at. Additional Info: Existing Caches listed that will be part of the Event This is a beginning list - and we have approximately 50-75 new caches that will be launched as part of this event. We offer no great prizes, but simply a lifetime of memories that will offer challenges to cachers of all types. The event will be held in August so all off road areas will be open - and this year (unliked last) We guarantee that the Whipsaw Trail will be open and one of the major legs - As well as other Quad friendly/4x4 friendly caches. There also will be many many caches that are car friendly - along with hiking caches too. This is an extremely family friendly event - we will be hosting Meet & Greets and other cachers that are coming will be hosting pancake breakfasts, movie nights & even a poker tournament - so those family members that don't cache - well they should be entertained as well! Hope to see you there! Will update as time goes on
  14. Looking at your caches, and that we recently had a TB that you had had I'm thinking you live the Agassiz/Hope area - there are a few very active cachers in the area. A really good way to meet the locals is to attend one of the local events - there is one in the Abbotsford on the 28th of November http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC20B4V It is a geocaching 101 event and a great way to connect - our good friend TesKelly is on there. Another way is the social networking site that we have started up - it is specific to Geocachers www.turtlepetprojects.ning.com It is where we can share our pictures & videos - a lot of those on there are Fraser Valley cachers! Welcome to the awesome addicting world of caching, we hope to meet you soon!
  15. May Long Weekend of 2009 saw the arrival of over 150 Geocachers to Tulameen/Princeton BC for what would be a weekend full of memories, experiences and sharing adventures with fellow cachers. Below we provide you a link to the book and video that were done for the event. The video we give full credit to our dear friend Scruffster who has stuck by our side through thick and thin. Great Coal Rush Book Great Coal Rush Video During the August Long Weekend of 2010 you will see a repeat of this event, only better - learning from what we did right and making a few tweaks. We will be launching between 80-100 new caches that weekend that will highlight the historical nature of the area and provide you a walking/guided history tour as well. We are hoping and planning for 250 cachers that weekend. We are arranging for a "base camp" for the weekend and the event will entail of 3 incredible days of exploring and making the event what you would like it to be. Social evenings, a Texas Holdem Poker Tournament, CITO Event, Potluck award ceremoney and even a wedding thrown in for good entertainment There will 4 different runs that you can mix & match what you would like and compete for the honor of first place in points with runs appealing to everyone from the avid Hiker to the 4x4er and those that are mobility challenged. We are holding in August to ensure that the higher elevations are open for access for the Whipsaw 4x4 route. We will be working with the City of Princeton and the event will be developing throughout the year. Last year we had attendees from all over BC, New Zealand and France To keep up on the latest it can be found at: WWW.TURTLEPETPROJECTS.COM We hope that you will consider joining us for the memories of a life time.. This event is sponsored by cachers for cachers , as such we are asking for a $5 donation per person to attend to cover the basic costs. Anything other then that is optional - such as camping, coins and a copy of the book. Base Camp is almost a done deal and we will be utizling the Princeton Fairgrounds - (waiting for final confirmation in the next few days) To date 4 new caches have been placed in preparation and 5 additional locations already identified. We will be utilzing some of the current caches in the area along with the new ones. Caching will take you from Copper Mountain to Hedley and up to Kentucky & Allyenne Lakes. Along with the Whipsaw 4x4 Route for those that have quads and desire a bigger challenge. Come join us in August 2010!!!
  16. I know that there is a way to ignore individual caches so they dont' show up in your queries, however is there a way to ignore all caches placed by a caching account? It would make things a bit simpler when trying to ignore 75 & 100 caches by each account.. if this is possible help would be appreciated.
  17. First a huge congratulations (I tend to meander so feel free to tune out now!).. lol A wedding should be a celebration between the two that are getting married and you should be able to do it anyway you want.. not the way a mother inlaw wants it, not the way the family wants it, nor the way society has deemed it acceptable. Do what makes you happy!! It is the first day of the rest of your life so in 10 years you should be able to look back and say - wow that was what I wanted.. Our wedding will be a side event to our bigger event next August (sorry for those that think weddings should be a big deal - I'll (Mrs. Turtle) will be in jeans - think of it like the Texas Holdem Event - without the ante's.. lol www.greatcopperrush.blogspot.com or for this years www.greatcoalrush.blogspot.com We researched quite a few online events and found a few wedding one's.. however in most cases the wedding itself was the event - so yours does vary in that regard. But for some of us that is because the only friends and family we have our geocachers.. lol for Mr. Turtle & I.. there is no social circle outside geocaching so it's a logical combination. Our vows will be caching related & it's sad but that is what makes us happy - it'll be a 3 day event where we'll be expecting our guests to show up covered in dust, dirt - if they shower before hand we will be disapointed as we should be out in the mud with them! & be talking more about the caches they found earlier that day then what the couple look like, while having a cold bottle of Bud while watchin and getting together for a potluck dinner counting points for the winners soon after! As for is it suitable as an event - well if it meets the geocache.com guidelines - then yes it is.. I think that there has evolved over time too many politics in caching.. Caching is meant to be full of love, fun, laughing, adventure and pushing oneself to new horizons - when did it become "what do other people think.. ".. lol I'm sure those first cache placers and event hosts when describing what they do to others got the "and that's fun' If we were there we'd love to come to your wedding - as a cacher with other cachers at least we'd be able to have something to talk about and when it comes time for Kareoke - we could harass the others who sing just as bad as us in the logs.. as for dressing as klingons - well we won't but you never know - Grafinator might.. lol ] As for the religious aspect - well that is a personal decision - I would suggest if you want to leave it open to cachers then put on the cache page what to expect and that they also have the option of just the reception if they are more comfortable - honestly for a wedding I don't think it would make much of a difference - .. Weddings are the one time where people can overlook their own views.. which is good.. So enjoy, relax and place a cache in honor of the wedding!
  18. We had an amazing CITO this weekend in BC. The geocachers of BC worked with the 4 wheel drive assocation of BC and we cleaned up 2,540 KG of Garbage plus between 2-3 tons of recyled metal. A write up can be found on www.bcgeocaching.com A video of the link can be found here - Stave Lake Clean Up A huge thank you to those that came out!
  19. Better yet, measure the height of the entire tube, put in a PVC pipe (clearly marked geocache) and make it as long as possible - the fun is putting it where you can watch and then watch cachers try to get it out of the fence.. lol We've got one.. a "few feet" long Then there is no epoxy - you take the end cap that screws off, drill that with a bolt to the top..
  20. Try the The Eastern Ontario Trail Blazers 4X4 Club (EOTB): http://www.eotb.ca/ they look like a good family oriented group. You never know, they may have Cachers in there club. Here in B.C. we have many Geocachers that also belong to 4x4 clubs, ourselves included. I had a quick look at there site and I'm surprised they don't have a forum, most due, perhaps you need to set-up an on-line account to access it. Good luck, hope it works out for you as we love our 4x4 caches. btw, a Jeep will fit on most ATV trails, trust us, we take our suburban on them here in BC Tulameen Turtles
  21. I'm going to put in my 2 cents.. first a reviewers job is never easy.. We are quite lucky here in BC to have one that always offers assistance on how to fix a cache so we can accomplish our goals. I'd like to refer people to the town of Tulameen, BC and the surrounding area. GC1ED5T Blakeburn In Nov of 2007 there were no caches in this area - not a one, this cache was placed in July of 2008. When the reviewers are approving caches they must not only consider the situation at the time, but what must potentially end up occuring in the future. 2 months after this a 2nd cache was placed in the area, this cache ended up highlighting a very important part of the history there - one of the abandoned buildings. it was declined based on the fact it was too close to the cache above - (141 meters I believe) and the owners had to put it in a new location. At the time it made no sense - as they couldn't have been confused at all and you wouldn't have stumbled across it and thought it the other one. But with the appeal declined (even though supported by us and a good friend) the owners moved it. Looking back now at the amount of caches in the area and how quickly it's growing - I now understand. Right now we're working our way through a multi-cache, we misunderstood and thought "physical container" meant a container you opened - we had put our coordinates on "tags" that hung up - but 2 stages in Tulameen were to close to other caches. So we went back and found new locations and waiting this time for approval prior to repounding the coordinates into the tags.. lol In the end though - The reviewers do an awesome job.. with the amount of caches submitted, moderating the forums. If you have an awesome location & caches - those who visit may want to place new caches to bring more people there - so imagine your location with 10 other new caches there.. what if exceptions were made to all of them? Just my 2 cents
  22. We put coordinates on a 2 inch by 1 inch metal tag, with a whole through it and attached it tucked behind "visual" sight of muggles with fishing line..
  23. We're happy to say that we got to receive the great TB and he's having his first adventures already - To British Columbia with a "Primary" Purpose - Peace! SBPSCoop He joined us on a trip the beach last weekend along with 3 other TB's - Zombie Babe and Russ D. Iron, and Shiloh who we picked up at a cache. This weekend they will be attending a Geo Ralley, along with many other cachers - then will be off to experience the okanagon and beautiful Tulameen area - and having his picture taken with artifacts of Granite City, Coalmont and the Blakeburn area (a ghost town) where BC's 5th worst mining disaster occured.. Stay tuned for his great fun!! This tour group is quite enjoying their adventures!
  24. If you’re in BC during the long weekend you’ve gota check out our event: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...b5-02268cf927c7 And the website: http://www.greatcoalrush.blogspot.com/ Give it a peek and let us know what you think!
  25. A quick update - for all info please see WWW.GREATCOALRUSH.BLOGSPOT.COM 1. The coin has been ordered now, we are taking down names for reservations (coin to be paid and picked up at the event) - we are only ordering a 100 on the first round 2. We will be playing Poker on Saturday Night - limit of 30 players right now - if you'd like to play please let us know so we can put your name down 3. The hall has been paid for for the Sunday night Awards Dinner and that event will be posted about 3 weeks prior to the final date. We've recently heard that we have a 4x4 club coming from Alberta (and very excited.. And for all you campers - We have arranged a group camp location - this location can hold at least 30 - 26 foot trailers so space should be good. It's on private land and is being held specifically for us! It is adjacent to the Granit Creek Campground, we will be posting coordinates under the Friday Night Meet & Greet Event - GC1JHV4 - This way people can find it. Will be submitting that cache tonight as we want people to be able to find it. We will be hosting the meet & greet there as well as it's big enough to hold all the vehicles! We're hoping that anyone coming that is not staying on our lot, or in a hotel/cabin will stay here as we would prefer for everyone to be together (better socialization) and this way we know the trailers can turn around. Cost is $10 a night and you get your first bundle of firewood free. We will be collecting the funds and providing it to the owner of the land. If you would like a guarnateed spot held for you - again e-mail us: tulameenturtles@shaw.ca Things are gearing up and over 3000 cards have been placed in happy envelopes - and we have everything ready to go be placed (do you have any idea how much space this many ammo cans take up.. lol) Guest list is building and we're nearing things. On Saturday Mr. Turtle will be providing a trail host on the Whipsaw Run - so those who want to ATV/ 4x4 it through there please coordinate with us (we want everyone safe in & out) or ask any questions (Mercrocks - you up for going on Sat?) So if you want your name down for anything - let us know! Check out the website - will be doing an update over the next few days again!
