  1. I tried the suggestions posted here with no results. The device will sit for 5 minutes and I get the message that it is having difficulty aquiring sattelite, do I wish to continue...I've been at this for a couple of hours. Pretty sure I'm beating a dead horse here. At what point do I try a hard reset? I can reload all of my data, but I don't want to cause any problems.
  2. First of all, let me say that I'm frustrated beyond belief with Garmin and their 9-5 support. I have an Oregon 400t. While caching in CA last week it was dropping signal frequently but my partner's Etrex didn't. I powered it off and flew back to MA. Now I cannot acquire a satellite. I have powered off, changed batteries, updated, and done everything except a master reset. I can still upload caches to it, but it seems to think I am still in CA. BTW this is my third Garmin that cost over $300, and I always seem to go back to my $90 Magellan. I find myself using the Garmins (Oregon and Colorado) to upload data, and the magellan to get me where I'm going.
  3. My boyfriend has a Garmin Etrex that he lost the manual for. He can download caches but can't view descriptions. Is paperless caching possible with this unit? If so, how? I'm trying to troubleshoot for him but I don't have the unit.
  4. I saved a bunch of gpx files on the same sd card my maps are on. Now I have exceeded the max amout of gpx files. How do I delete the gpx files and not the basemap?
  5. I'd like to do some caches that require a canoe/kayak. How can I do a search by attribute?
  6. I will be touring the parks of southern utah by motorcycle next month. I'd like to hit a few quick caches with my non-cacher boyfriend. I'm finding many caches that require 4WD vehicles. I'm looking for a few close to Bryce, Zion, and Escalante that are easy to drive to.
  7. Today I tried a cache with my 9 year old son. It turned out to be a cemetery cache, which until today I have avoided. As we got close to the cache, we saw someone sitting on a bench with her head down. We started to walk away and realized she had a gps and was looking for the same cache. She had other friends searching, too. My son got right in with them and found the cache, and handed them the logbook to sign. Should we have just left them to find the cache and returned later?
  8. I frequently dream of creepy critters guarding caches.
  9. When I was caching in Tokyo, the word 'Muggle' took on a new meaning. I was the only non-asian at the park, and it was field trip day for the kids. 2,000 people in their dark uniforms, and me in a bright pink rain slicker. Stealth went right out the window that day....
  10. Maybe not the 'best' but the most useful. I found a bicycle horn. It came in very handy on my foggy 3 mile paddle back from the cache. I don't care if I did sound like PeeWee Herman paddling on the lake. I didn't get hit by a bigger boat.
  11. I wasn't raining on his parade. I've had plenty of let downs myself. Back when I was addicted to Jeep Travel bugs, I remember making a 45 mile drive to bag a Jeep that was removed two days before, but the finder had not logged his find yet. I've also found many caches where the cache page showed no logs, but when I got there, the logbook already had multiple finds. It's just a game, and I got over it. I can see that from your profile....
  12. I would not add anything to a TB without permission. I did, however, recently place a TB while traveling. Due to the small size of the cache, I was not able to add a hitchiker or even a copy of the cache page. My hope is that hitchikers find it and hitch a ride, and take photos along the way.
  13. AWESOME! I am going to Japan in a week. I am so excited. I will not be climbing, but I will go to Fuji. I plan to find some caches near Tokyo.
  14. The main reason I got into this hobby was to get my child outside. He is overweight and has little activity. He will complain about walking 100 feet to get the mail, but will hike three miles for a McToy. I think it's been good for both of us. It's great to see him interested in being outside. He is also learning about maps and nature.
  15. I am going to Tokyo in 2 weeks for a short stay. I'd like to visit a park while I'm there and check out a few caches. Can I just take my GPS with me and expect it to work? Do I need to get new software? I'm not interested in a map per se. I just want the GPS for caching. I will be taking public transportation to the park. BTW, it's a magellan explorist 500e
  16. I certainly do not cache for the swag. If I find something I like, I trade even or trade up. If there is garbage, I clean it up. I don't judge people by what they leave. I simply ask that it not be inappropriate or dirty (a used golf ball is OK. A used condom is NOT).
  17. How do I upload pics to my own gallery?
  18. I logged one DNF and was quite frustrated. It was a beautiful place to hide a cache, and I spent over an hour looking. I went back with my son a week later. After another exhaustive search, we did not find it. I looked on the cache page again for a hint, only to learn that I had plugged in the coordinates incorrectly and was 15 miles off. On the bright side, I stumbled onto a great area, and plan to hide a cache there soon.
  19. I thought geocoins were meant to travel. Am I supposed to leave them in a cache if I find one? How could the o.p. be accused of stealing a geocoin if they are up for grabs anyway?
  20. I picked up a TB from a cache and logged it. Then I dropped it in another cache and logged it. I have pics I took of the TB that I would like to upload. How do I do this?
  21. Congrats! It just gets better.
  22. I got slammed by ticks today! I have never seen so many in one place (me). Is DEET the best repellent? If the Lyme disease doesn't get me, the anemia will.
