  1. I just use Easy GPS and Cachemate. I think they are the easiest to use and get going with paperless caching. I get everything I need on my palm with cachemate. Descriptions, clues, 5 most recent logs. I think that is all you need.
  2. Does anyone know if there are any clip art that specifically deal with geocaching? I would like to make a sig item and would like to see some clip art if it is out there. I checked the microsoft clip art site and got no results.
  3. I think Cachemate works on all Palm operating systems.
  4. Nevermind my post above. I got er done. I had to add the 4.1 to my download list for my palm. Thanks anyways.
  5. I downloaded CM 4.1 and cant seem to get caches loaded like I could before with 4.0.1. When I use the CMConvert, I now have to use a drop down option from the File to load file. I load the file then select all, again from the drop down and it tells me that 200 waypoints have been loaded. Now I dont know how to go ahead and convert them. I dont have any buttons to do so like I do with the 4.0.1 version. Have I done something wrong?
  6. My ratio os 156:1, and that one is archived. People who berate other cachers about stupid items like this should try another activity.
  7. Most of the time I trade what I got from one cache at another cache.
  8. Thank you, I am definitely cool now. Thanks.
  9. how do you add the code you get to your profile page?
  10. ANYWAYs, he has cachemate and wants to use it. You need to get a pocket query and then you use the cmconvert that is included in the cachemate software. After you have converted, you then hotsync to your palm and that will put it into your pda. Cachemate and a pda are all you need. Some of these other programs they are talking about work great im sure, but to get you going, you just need your pda and cachemate. In your pocket query you have to choose the right type of file. I think it is a loc file. Good luck.
  11. what is meant by "three tiers"? Is that equivalent to three stories?
  12. "live and let live" just like the marijauna grower did with the trees to discourage hikers. Not only is the marijuana illegal but what he did to the trees is a crime as well. Assuming he did it. Of course you tell the police.
  13. If you are just downloading caches from Web site, you just click the download button out on the far right side of the cache listing and it downloads it to your easy gps file. Next you open up your easy gps and select the caches and upload them to your gps. Before you upload to your gps you have to set it up to do so. It walks you through it. If you are getting pocket queries and want to get them on your palm all you do is unzip the pocket querie and it will save it where you want it. I save mine to a file I created and titled Geocaching. Next you open up Cachemate and select File Converter and select CM convert. You then select a file to convert. The file you just unzipped. Then select all and then Convert. Then it will tell you that the next time you Hot Sync it will put that on your palm. Pretty simple. Good luck.
  14. I did a 9 mile round trip that included going from about 8200 feet up to 10,777 feet. That nine miles really felt like 20 when I was done. That cache is on top of Mt. Rose Nv. Ohh, and to answer your question, yes.
  15. I am surprised you didnt get any hits. There are plenty of postings on PDAs. But anyways, I use a Palm Zire with 2mb. I have Cachemate on it that only costs 7 dollars. Cachemate allows me to have all the things you see on a cache page plus the last five postings. It has a decoder function to decode any hints on the cache as well. I carry it with me when i cache just in case I get stumped and need to read the information on the cache again or want to use the hint. I download or manually put in the coordinates into my gps. Thats how I use mine.
  16. I believe a guy named team flushing grouse makes some lanyards up for meridians. I made my own though based on his designs that have been on the fourms in the past. You basically need a 4-40 knurled thumb screw and then you drill a hole through the knurled thumb part for the lanyard and attach a brass ring. All that is left to do now is cut the screw down to size and maybe a small rubber ring to help keep the screw from coming loose on you.
  17. no you dont need any software to geocache. The simplest way to start is to just get the lat/longitude from the geocache page and write it down on paper and use that as a reference. Figure out how to input these into your gps and it makes it easier to use. You will need some software when you decide or learn how to download straight from the website. A lot of that software is free. Good luck.
  18. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. A good website to explain geocaching?? Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Try geocaching.com You might find something there.
  19. how bout a small altoids mint tin? what do you think?
  20. I have gone to the easy gps website looking for a way to update my version of it but cant find a way. Do I have to delete easy gps from my computer and re-download the newer version?
  21. has this unit been fixed for cracks near the screwholes by Thales?
  22. Here are some ideas. gcmw80, gcjp5y, gcmt2q, gchpgp these are all in the same general area. gc3818 right on border off of I 80, gchpyf great micro cache, make sure you do this one. gc83e couple this one with gc3818. If you are bringing or want to pick up some travel bugs use the GBES travel bug port, gc96b7. Hope this helps out. If you cant find anyone to go I might be able to on the 3rd or the fifth. Good luck.
  23. If you drop your wallet, kick it all the way to San Jose then bend over to pick it up.
