  1. Why not create a pocket query just for caches along a route? That way, you only download caches you are likely to visit.
  2. 3/33 is used by many Jeepers (J33P), although CB is becoming more common due to the better range.
  3. And the moral of the story is not to publicise the fact you have disposed of certain types of litter By the way, well done for CITO, although I do wonder if the cache is in a suitable location and will remain family friendly.
  4. I browsed to several cache pages, only to have no large maps displayed. "The connection has timed out The server at ge.pythonmoo.co.uk is taking too long to respond." I can see the standard maps if I use IE8, but currently see no maps if I use my prefrred browser (Firefox 3.6.6). Has anybody else experienced this problem? I'm sure everything was working fine last Thursday.
  5. As much as I prefer to read paper magazines over internet versions, I have not bought any for a couple of years, and have not renewed subscriptions due to the recession. Lack of pay rises means I have had to make cutbacks on many non essential items. As previously stated, any required information can be obtained from the internet as required, instead of waiting for the next issue.
  6. Thanks for the link. I will miss the maps, since I've never been able to get the UK counties map in GSAK Statgen to work.
  7. I am saddened to see the loss of an excellent site, and wish to thank you for all the hard work you have put into it, and best wishes for your future ventures. As others have said, the maps were the best and easiest ones I have used, and I will now have to persevere and get the GSAK ones to work for the UK counties. Ivan
  8. The Jeeps are BIG One of the Jeeps has a couple of TB tags on the back, normally readable. Though after last weekend the code is hidden under some mud! I could tell you about the lighthouse, but I don't want to spoil it for anybody who wants to visit the caches in the area
  9. I made sure our group stopped at Duddon Estuary Eathcache (GC20KWB).
  10. I've just chosen simple traditional caches, and attempted translating the hint with a dictionary if needed. The few foreign Earth caches I have found have had an English translation on the cache page.
  11. If we had a naming and shaming thread, then maybe friends of the named cacher would have the opportunity to either put the record straight, or rescue the TB, then the name could be removed from the list. Perhaps another more suitable name should be found for the thread.
  12. Thanks for the link. It seems it only works for TB's in caches. I have made a note of the link for possible future use.
  13. Both of my Jeeps are trackable (TB1X0G5 and TB2EF4Z), and have been seen at events. I have a vinyl cutter, so made my own stickers, using the numbers from a couple of Jeep GeoCoins I bought and registered (but not released). I think I might have made the numbers too small, since not many people have logged them. I also think cachers don't bother logging them, thinking they will only get a standard TB icon. Anybody who logs my Jeeps will get a Jeep icon and / or a Tread Lightly logo icon.
  14. That explains why I never received an email of my finds
  15. Although Weatherspoons and McDonalds use The Cloud WIFI, Weatherspoons home page uses flash and/or java, which does not work with the likes of ppc and iphone/ipods (at least the last time I tried). Hopefully, if enough people complain to Weatherspoons head office, things might change. I've succesfully used my ipod touch in Mac's car park. If I want to use wifi at Weatherspoon, I have to use my laptop computer
  16. Hi Does anbody know a cacher called Iron2w, who I believe lives in Missouri? He picked up one of my coins in Italy in November 2008, and has not moved it on. He has not replied to the emails I have sent through Groundspeak (could be a problem with GS). If you do know and commmunicate with him, please ask him to contact me regarding my coin. Many thanks, Ivan
  17. Of course, you could attend a local event, and there should be plenty to choose from this weekend (10 year birthday celebrations if you haven't already noticed )
  18. Tintern Abbey, in the Wye Valley, near to GC208V7. And our accomodation for the weekend - St. Briavel's Youth Hostel: (Edit to add link to cache).
  19. I have been using a 60csx for over 3 years and love it. I recently purchased an Oregon 400t since I wanted to replace my old ipaq for paperless caching. Once I turned the compass off, it seems to be reasonably accurate for finding caches. I prefer the 60csx for downloading tracks from the gps to mapsource, since the Oregon puts everything into gpx files. Waypoint management is easier (as a long time Garmin user), but I am sure I will get used to the new method. I never really used maps on the 60csx, but the Oregon displays them much better, although the Oregon backlighting is disapointing. Hopefully, the newer 450 & 550 have better screens. The photo organisation could be better on the oregon if you wanted to carry spoiler photos. I believe the 550 will handle geotagged spolier photos, which makes it easier to find if needed. I am disapointed with the built in topo maps, the detail is nothing like the detail found on the topo maps which can be purchased. I only chose the T model since I travel to Europe. The OS maps available are excellent, although it is easy to create your own (there is another thread with detailed instructions). In summary, the Oregon is a smaller unit with better mapping display and paperless caching.
  20. Muggles at 7 o'clock! Just off the coast of Portsmouth. The RN use the ferries (with their permission) as part of their training to match course and speed and mock landings.
  21. This is ridiculous, have you never watch CSI, or NCIS, they can read anything anywhere If you watched the Gadget Show on Monday, you would have discovered that Hollywood has got it wrong (no suprise there) All I can say is it must be an old photo they are using, there is no TB symbol on my Jeep, which means it is over 18 months old (summer of 2008).
  22. Don't forget, this is an american site, so it's okay to mention Jeeps, but not LandRovers My Jeep TB will be on display at the British Indoor 4x4 show (I won't provide details of this commercial event), so any cachers who are attending can go and discover it. As with any hobby, it is usually the minority who spoil it for the rest. Whilst walking, I see too many illegal scramble bikes in places there they shouldn't be. I pay between £20 and £40 to play at decent offroad sites, it is a small price to pay to enjoy my hobby and test my vehicles capabilities without annoying other countryside users. I will defend my right to drive green lanes, but accept that my 'toy' is not suitable for most lanes in the UK. I try and abide by the Tread Lightly code, and one of my GeoCoins is a Black Jeep Tread Lightly coin (with the number printed on my Jeep), to try and spread the word.
  23. It is possible that not everybody in a house will attend an event, especially a local one. Besides, I could have left a hungry doberman at home
  24. It doesn't matter how big a card you put in, you are still restricted to just over 2,000 map segments, at least if using Mapsource.
  25. The view from Place Fell (GCXR6B). The photo is looking west towards Helvelyn and Striding Edge.
