  1. For those small log sheets we just abbreviate - PI PN for the teeny ones, P.Iti P.Nui for the slightly larger. Extremely teeny, and very little room in the log get TP - for Team Popoki. We try and let the CO know in our logs which we have used.

  2. Please.....Can anyone tell me how to make the Magellen Communicator work so I can upload caches into my GPS?? .. In terms for Dummies would be great!!! I have been looking over the Magellen info/requirements etc.. I have what I need but am getting no where in trying to make the dam thing work! Any help would be much appreciated..~thanks~!

Make sure your Magellan GPS is selected as your primary device in your profile. Once the communicator is downloaded, you need to log out of geocaching.com, then log back in again. If that doesn't work - it didn't for me - I logged out, closed all Windows, and restarted my computer. That got it to "take." You need patience, that's for sure!

Be sure to select Magellan on the tab before you download, it may default to another product.

Good Luck, and let us know if you need further help!

Well...first of all, I checked my profile to see that my Magellan showed up as the primary GPS.. it used to be very obvious but it does not show ANY Gps in my Profile and I can't see where to add one??? I can't imagine what happened that would have made that either invisible or deleted it?? First of all I guess I need to change that first... any suggestions how to do that??

    Thanks

I can't find it either, nor which GPS I am using now...and I KNOW I entered that. Maybe things have changed? It used to be that I would click on my user name and it was in the column on the right. Which browser are you using? I seem to recall that some folks had better success with Firefox than with any other. I wish I could help more.......we need The A Team!! The cacher using that name is very knowledgeable, and would help out, I am sure. You could contact him through his profile.....

  4. I use a GPS for caching - started with the Magellan GC, but have graduated to the Garmin 62s. As I am too cheap to spring for a data plan for my phone - my internet provider has loads of WiFi hotspots, so I'm lucky - I have only used it to find a few caches. Each to their own, find what suits you.

I do have to say that I prefer the battery life and ruggedness of my Garmin.

  5.

Yeah I have several lines where they would be available 24/7 and it would just be a automated message.

I have found one like that! It got a favorite point from us!

There was/is a neat one near us where you tune your car radio to a certain frequency, and listen to the message. It was opening words to a great TV show and the coords were at the end. Off we went to get the cache and get a neat view. The phone thing would work well too.

    Business caches....not anymore.

  6. It could be as NYPaddleCacher says and is the position you need to be in - similar to a mechanic sliding under a vehicle. The clue for a cache we did a few years back was to do what the penitent do - prostrate oneself. Sure enough, in that position I could feel the cache!

  7. I felt like I needed to post this one. While I have been a member since 2006, I stopped after a year or two (for personal reasons) and have just recently started back up again.

It seems like things have either changed a lot since then, or I never really understood the game in the first place. The point is, I'm still learning. I make mistakes. Even after reading every rule, trying to follow every instruction, and watching every how-to video, I STILL make mistakes. And I think a lot of others are in the same boat, trying to learn from mistakes. For example, I might have already seen the link you posted in answer to my question, but I'm here because I didn't quite understand it.

Please, just be patient while we learn.

We all make mistakes, newbies and oldies! I believe that the day we stop learning is the day we shuffle off this earth. If there is a link you don't understand, please let us know and we'll pitch in to help you out. If you were to ask me a question that I can't answer, I would ask others to help. That way, we both learn!

    Welcome back!

  8. I miss the "Found By" option. It was useful to me when logging our caches to be sure I hadn't missed one. Also handy when a fellow cacher tells us of a really neat cache they found last week, but can't remember the name.

A workaround might be to go to your (or your fellow cacher's) Profile page, then the "Geocaches" tab, then the "All Cache Finds" link.

Thanks for the hint. It'll work for now. I suppose "Found By" wasn't used very often. I like the look of the new page, getting used to it will take me time. And then there will be another improvement!

Oh well, at least I am not the only one having difficulties........

    edit:- typo

  10. There is an event starting at 9am tomorrow, about half an hour away. I have just completed a 10+ hour day, have laundry on the go, and supper to get..... The thought of getting up early for an event isn't thrilling me! I will set the alarm, and if I get up, great. If I don't - that's OK.

    Happy Pi Day, folks!

Well, I did it! Dragged my sorry rump out of bed, got to the location, took photos of travel bugs in the parking lot in the pouring rain, and got in line for a hot drink. The poor barista was on her own, and the manager hadn't even told her she would be swamped by geocachers. She served everyone speedily, with a smile on her face and got a round of applause from us. I also wrote to the head office complimenting her.

  11. Gel Pens in my case - in particular the Ink Joy range by PaperMate. 10 assorted colours for $4.99 Cdn. Not clicking pens, they have the cap you take on and off, which I find irritating. I will try the clicker type next time.

We carry hand sanitizers in each car - liquid in a bottle type - to deal with funky stuff on our hands from caches.

  13. Make that two caches - got the info in the pub where we had an event and headed out to grab the cache while waiting for the food to be served. My phone was no help away from the free WiFi, but Popoki Nui has a $10/month data plan so that helped. Pay as you Go saves money....even more is saved by buying the $100 card which is good for a year! Yup, I'm cheap, or thrifty, or.....

  14. I'm a bit confused.

katmoffat, you haven't logged any caches or trackables under this account. Were you using a different account when you logged the trackable into the cache?

katmoffat, let us know the name you used when logging the trackable/"geotag" and may be able to help you out by using a bit of detective work. It is only a mistake, which can be fixed - and we are all human here.....

  15. Went to the doctor today and she told me I must do at least 1/2 hour of exercise each day.

Came home and told Mr Incredible that the doctor said I must go geocaching at least 1/2 hour each day.

Doctor's orders and who am I to argue! :D

Your Doctor is great! After a month of 1/2 hour a day, maybe she will (if given a bottle of wine) increase that to an hour? Mr Incredible doesn't stand a chance against two women! :D

  16. On the west coast of Canada, we have snow too.............only ours is pink from the cherry blossoms! Our first honey and bumble bees have been sighted and the temperature is in the double digits. Not good for the ski hills, sadly. Back in 1996, it was a different story

    is worth a look.

edit - It was worse in the country where we live, half an hour away, the snow was chest high on me and our cars buried, and we were stuck for 4 days....

  17. We have Windows phones too, and have Geocaching Live on them. Only used them for one cache (free WiFi in the area,) and as I don't want to pay for data, so we use our GPSs for 99.9% of caching.
