  12. We use a mac for loading both our Garmin 76CS and CSx via the USB port from our intel based macs. I have also loaded waypoints for friends at events to a varity of garmin devices via usb as well Have a look at MacCaching Whilst it is not as powerful as GSAK it does the job of loading waypoints no problems
  13. I use a nokia 6110 navigator with viewranger and SmartGPX, that's for previously loaded caches, but on the hop I use Geocache Navigator, by trimble. With viewranger it imports the GPX file and puts a dot where the cache is and all you have to do is line up the circle with a cross in it (you at your location) with the dot (cache) and you are right on it. I've had many FTF using this. My husband jokes that all I need to go caching is my phone and a pen! The thing with trimble is it uses your data connection, but if that is part of your package then it's great. Saying that I have a 500mb bundle with vodafone and I have only ever got to 20mb in a month. Hubby still won't cache without his 76CXS in his pocket though!
  14. We are planning on arriving at Piratemania on the Thursday till Tuesday AM. 1 Night at Amanda's parents in Worksop to regroup then onto the Lets go Mega camping event for Wednesday evening till the following Wednesday.
  15. Hello everyone, I was wondering whether anyone can help. We found a lovely place to place a cache in a field opposite a weir, we did quite a bit of investigating and found out who the landowners were. We emailed them asking if they owned the land and what we were wanted to do. The reply email that we received back basically said that they agreed in principle but needed dates as to when we would want the land. I phoned a explained to them that there would be no specific date and times as it was up to the indivdual geocachers as to when they would go and find the cache. We agreed on a start date and a 3 month trial period to insure that both parties were happy and that there was not any effect on the land. We were then told that a lience would be in the post in the next couple of days and everything was sorted. A couple of days later I received a phone call asking for £50 + vat admin fee (even though they are a charity they needed to make money – her words, not mine)(we did think that for a small decon container, this was a bit steep) and then she asked if I had public liability insurance and she then told me that if I didn’t have the insurance then no-one would be allowed on the land, I mentioned that we have the disclaimer about all cachers, cache at their own risk, she then re-iterated no public liability insurance then no license. She did also tell me that by being upfront and asking for permission, has gone against us, if we had just placed the cache they would not have been any the wiser. I mentioned that the field in question is ‘open space’, but was told that it is still private property. We have since found out that the site in question is a Defra conservation walk area and clearly shows this on Defra’s website. It also states that ‘people using this site, do so at their own risk’. It also states that the public will have a right to go on to the land and remain on it for the purposes of open air recreation. http://www.defra.gov.uk/rural/pdfs/rwpreview/annex_11.pdf page 3. Is Geocaching an open air recreation? Do we pursue this further or are we banging our head against and brick wall and chalk it up to experience. This is our first attempt at placing a cache and have got a bit disheartened, please tell us that they are not all like this. Cheers Amanda and Steve
  16. Had a Breast Cancer B.C. cancer foundation coin for our very first trade Thanks to the Wolf-Pack
  17. We use Smartcaching (smartGPX) too You can import GPX files into its database. The info it contains is quite good, cache description, terrain and difficulty, the last 5 logs, and also the hint (this is encrypted, but has the facility to decrypt). Once you have loaded it on and ready to go, whilst you are out caching, you can mark a cache as found or make a note so that you know what you have done when you get home. We run it on both a Nokia N73 and Nokia 6110 nagivator We used to use cachemate for our Palm, but using smartcaching means that we can now carry less things. Amanda and Steve
  18. Ours was very similar to Pengy and Tiggers. When Amanda was newly seperated and setting up an Email account she did not want to be hit on all the time so her Aunt came up with watchout@tiggersabout.isp.co.uk, as she loves the winnie the pooh characters, that account is now defunct but the tiggersabout bit stuck and we use it in nearly all the places we go online. And anyone who knows our daughter Kimberley will know why she caches under the name Little Miss Chatterbox. Amanda and Steve
  19. We use MacCaching as well to get Geocaches on to our Garmin GPSMAP 76CS. The GPS did need a Firmware update to communicate with the Mac at first which unfortunatly could only be done off a windows machine .(future GPS firmware updates should work on the Mac) Not sure if this is the case with the 76CSx but might be worth checking your firmware on your GPS is the most recent if you do have problems at the start. We also use GPS babel to turn the GPX files into ov2 files that can then be used on our Tom Tom 1. This just puts a POI symbol where the cache is (or published co-ordinates), So we use this to get us to a position on a road nearest to the cache, but that is not necessarily the best place to start your walk. We then let the GPS take over. Cheers Steve
  20. Hiya There is one that springs to mind....Just to the west of Peterborough there is Hills and Holes. GCEA49 . It's set in a medieval quarry that is now run by English Nature. Both our 12 and 2 year olds loved walking up and down the paths. I know this is not a problem for you, but it is no use whatsoever for cachers with buggys, we took one look and left the buggy in the car!.. Amanda and Steve
