  1. I gained a few more grey hairs trying to figure this out as well. I still don't know the abbreviations yet so do everything long hand And I just figured out how to add a picture beside my log in name, I'm on a roll!
  2. I guess what through me off was that it marked the place itself - I don't think I did anything to say that I had actually found the place . . . . I thought I had to highlight "found" and push the button or something. Hopefully tomorrow will be more successfull. I also didn't pay any attention to what size caches they were when I went and I think they were micro. Thanks for responding!
  3. So today was the first time I've used my GPS and luckily there are a couple of spots right up the road so I didn't have to worry about getting too lost. I'm wandering around, trying to figure out how to read the thing and it beeps at me like I've hit the jackpot except there's nothing there. I find a mailbox with a pen in it but nothing else. So I wander on in the same 20' area and then it beeps at me again, once again I haven't really found anything. I checked my unit and it tells me I've found two locations - YAHOO! But I didn't find anything really So I'm assuming that when you get to the right coordinates it marks the spot as found but then you still have to find the bounty??? How do you know if there's still something there to find? Any advice would be appreciated. By the way, I downloaded these from the Garmin website but they are listed on this site as well. On a side note, I just read the topic about greating other cachers and my hubby and I will be practicing "the dance" tonight to make sure I get it right
  4. Can someone tell me how to get fun pictures under your login name? Or at least where to go to read how to do it. Thanks!
  5. Thanks for the tip about leaving tracks. I'm sure I'll be all over the place trying to figure out where I'm going that I won't have to worry about my tracks leading right to the cache. And then trying to find my way out will be an entirely different matter. I can read a map okay but I'm sure this will be a whole different experience for me. Thanks for the tip!
  6. Last February, I went on a multistage hunt after a fresh snowfall in an extremely remote area, only to find a cacher's car parked at the same spot and his footprints freshly made. I followed them in and eventually caught up with him at the cache site. On the flip side, we talked about Winter Caching in our Chicago Forum. One cacher had a unique take on it...
  7. Wow, you guys are quick! Thanks for responding so promptly. I'm very excited to get my GPS, now I just have to figure out how to use it. I'm glad to know that geocaching still goes on during the winter months as they're predicting a bit of snow here in NH. Now for those new snowshoe bindings . . . .
  8. Well this is the first time I've ever posted anything to a forum - kind of nervous about it but I have no idea why! Anyway, I'm still waiting for my first GPS unit to arrive, it's suppose to be here tomorrow, and I'm wondering what happens in the winter time? Do people still hide stuff? If you've left a cache someplace are you suppose to remove it during the winter months? Next question for now - can someone tell me about the geocache coins and where you get them. Thanks!
