Verifying by QR Code
If your handheld has a camera, you will be able to verify supported geocaches by scanning a QR (Quick Reference) code that is hidden with the geocache. When this method is selected, your camera will launch in a special mode that requires you only place the QR Code clearly in your viewfinder. Your handheld will alert you when it has automatically decoded and stored the verification information.
I'm interested in the part I bolded and colored red. It would be nice to have this added outside of finding a cache. As in a stage of a multi-cache.
I like the idea of using the QR Code as part of a Multi too.

Hmm, Garmin just announced a new firmaware package for these devices (using Webupdater) to coincide with this post on their TrailTech posting. It adds Verification to a cache, AKA "Did you really visit my cache?".

I have an Oregon 550 and a 60Cx.
I would have SERIOUSLY looked at this one over the 550.
I am assuming it will retain the extenal antenna port which I really miss on the Oregon.
Here is hoping they don't have the teething issues the Oregon and Colorado did. The 60Cx series had a lot of issues when it was released.

Can anybody tell me if it reads the Heart rate and Cadence info from the Colorado, Edge and Oregon?
I have been patienly waiting for Garmin to give us a tool to read this without using motionbased.com or Connect.
I have discovered (and purchased) TopoFusion and TCX Converter to read and exoprt the HRM data. You would think Garmin would support all the features of their own equipment.
Ok that is my rant for a beautiful Sunday on the Wet Coast. Time to get caching...

My Query is suppoed to return caches within 20KM. And its returning up to 70KM.
Mot what I wanted.

I feel the same way with the Oregon. I would like to see and external antenna on the Oregon series as well.
Other than those two issuses, it is a great unit for the way I use it.
I have gotten used to the UI, the touch screen has been good even with gloves, and the accuracy has been ok.
I like having the Heart Rate Strap adding the data to the current.gpx, it makes monitoring while walking, hiking and caching a lot easier. Now if only I did not have to use 3rd party tools to read the HRM data.
Ok there a three issues that iwould like to see fixed....

I use the Oregon with the Heart rate monitor all the time while I am walking.
I walk fairly fast, I cover 10KM in 1hr 19min, almost a jog. I carry mine in my hand, held loosley. Clucthing it drives up the BP.
Garmins Mapsource does not read the HRM information. The Oregon records it, but Mapsource drops the ball there.
I use a piece of share ware called TCXConverter. It is written by a biker in Italy and it show the heart rate and Bike Cadence if you are biking. Find it at :

Watch word wrap. Well worth it.
However the best $$ I spent was on TopoFusion. Another MB person has blended reading the Oregon (and others) and showing it on free downloadable maps. I LOVE IT!

I bought a Oregon 300 for paperless caching and so far, I like it. It does everyting I want so far.
I used a 60Cx and paper before the oregon and a Legend with paper and the Oregon is much nicer I think.
GSAK and the Excellent Import and Export macros, it's a winning combination, at least for em.

I am another user that is frustrated. But I have been searching and thanks to a posting on the Oregon Wiki Space (Thanks G-o-cacher), I found a piece of software that reads the current.gpx and will allow you to see the HRM data, export to .KML, .CSV and numerous others.

I have only had the oregon for 2 weeks and am still forming my opinion.
I bought the Oregon because of the touch screen. I luv cool toys!. I went for the 300 because I live in Canada and the topo maps and charts don't do me any good.
So far, these are my Pro / Con list;
PRO's
PROFILES. Nice to be able to customize. MEMORY ON BOARD. I have loaded maps for my area and still have room for caches. No extra memory required! HEART RATE MONITOR.Might be able to do away with Polar. TOCH SCREEN. So far, easy to use with or with out gloves.
CON's
NO EXTENAL ANTENNA. I wanted that. NO EXTERNAL POWER. Cant use my flashlight power supply. At walking speeds, it shows stopped while I am still moving. Only for a second or two, but they add up. There is an apperent error when the Oregon converts the current track to .gpx for transfer I am investigating that.
Would I do buy it again? I think so. I like the Colorado 300 because of the external antenna, but the touch screen is way nice, and the Colorado drift issue worries me.

This is my 4th unit. Used with Topo Cananada, Metro Guide Canada, City Navigator NA 2008 and 2009 and a Micro SD card for map and Custom POI's. This has been a great unit. I use it for on road navigation with an external antenna and for geocaching. I also us it in conjuntion with my Polar HRM for tracking my exercise.
It has proven to be very reliable and accuate too. I like the external antenna and the serial and power connector. I built a power pack using and old flashlight and the round serial / power connector to allow for extended battery life on the weekend camping / caching weekends

Hmmm, now that I think of things....
The Forerunner 405 uses a small usb reciever to exercise info to the PC. It may be worth asking Garmin to make that avalable on the Colorado and Oregon series and make it work wtih the GPS data transer.
It would be nice not to have to hook up a cable to get maps, geocache information, track data etc. in and out of the units
And it would be one less hole in the case....
Hmmm time to send a note to Garmin.

I have to disagree with the Bluetooth concept.
Garmin bought out a Canadaian company called DynaStream that developed the ANT system for sports monitoring. Heart rate monitoring, bike speed etc
I agree it is very bluetooth like. but it is not in my opinion.

I have been watching the various forums and noticed a drop in comments about the Colorado series.
I am thinking of buying a Colorado but I feel it is missing some features like waypoint averaging for one.
Do people think Garmin is going to fix some of these issues are just waiting for the user community to loose interest in complaining and accept things as they are?

I like succenct answers. And Yes is short and sweet.
I have both for two reasons. I like the maps in Metro Guide, the data is from a Canadian firm and tend to be a bit more detailed.
I got City Navigator for our few trips into the US. I did find that City Navigator has a few more parks and trails in for Canada too. For example here in the Victoria BC area, we have a trail system called the Galloping Goose that hase been in existence first as a trail track, then in the 1980s as a walking trail. It shows in City navigator bit not in MetroGuide.

No card readers required and you dont take any chances on breaking something. Beauty eh!
I love my 60Cx but feel the way the card is locked in place is a problem waiting to happen. So I rarely change my cards. And I never do it in the field. I am also not sure that I need the ability to save the track files. I have been using a Garmin for the past 4 years to track my walks and geocaching and havent found a need to be able to save the tracks as mentioned. But I will never ask them to take it away!
I agree with previous posts, Garmin wanted more time to try this out.

I started with a Legend a year ago. Wonderful piece of gear I love it. I dithered about the 60 series. I looked at both and decided I did not want to spend the extra $$ here in CA for the sensors. So I bought a 60C, and am very very very happy. Lots of Ram, like the colour, USB works well etc etc. BOught a bike mount and works well. I have had none of the lockup or power down issues I have heard about. I find it fits my hand much better than the 76Map series. If you want lots of ram, wait fore the 76c.
Thats my opinion.
