  1. 290 people checked this post and i got 18 replies, apparently i was not the only one having problems.
  2. Thanks for your help, i knew if i waited long enough someone would come up with the the information i needed. I just checked some of my topo maps, the UTM tick marks are on the borders and making the grids was easy, guess i am on my way now. thanks again for all the help.
  3. Currently i use topo maps that i print out using UTM and grid squares, if i set my gps to utm i can use my coordinates from the gps and locate myself on my map. I have never learned how to use a standard topo map, 7.5 to locate my positon using dd.mm.ss or dd.mm.mm. the problem i have is trying to determine how to measure the distance inside the grid squares. anyone out the there can provide a simple explanation on how to do this? thanks
  4. http://www.garmin.com/outdoor/ go to this site and check on discontinued products up on the left, you will find the 100,200 and 300 rhino there. you can click on each one and find most of the information for yourself.
  5. I have the Rhino 110 (set of them). i am sure they compare somewhat with the 120's. i assume by the talking feature you are talking about the walkie talkie portion of the unit? they transmit about two miles straight line distance. other then that, they are just like any other gps unit. you can use them while you are driving, hiking, etc. I use them in conjunction with maps that i print out in utm format with grid lines, it is handy to not only locate yourself on a map, but when the other person talks to you, it also transmits their position and you can locate them. the units come with a base map, but you can also download other maps to the unit. the more memory, the larger the map you can download. I am looking at garmins new units, the 520 and 530, expensive for sure, but they transmit 12 miles and have more storage space. anything else i can help you with just let me know. Lee

  7. If that happens, then it goes to the unsolved cold case files.
  8. I am curious if anyone else treats geocaching as a seasonal activity. I tend to do most of my searching for caches from October - April. Not sure what the climate or weather is like in your neck of the woods, but from May - September in virginia, it is hot, wet, humid. Woods are full of new underbrush, ticks, chiggers, snakes and a few other items. This also gives me a chance to renew my interest in this activity.
  9. Thanks for the reply, i figured that was what happened to it. i went looking for it today and got grilled by a couple of park rangers. it probably got removed between the time i printed out the page (feb 05) and today, forgot to check for current information before i set on out. oops
  10. I am speaking of Koz's oKkoKuan Kache, GCJBJP, located in a wildlife preserve in woodbridge, va.
  11. There was a cache located close to my location, now it is not listed, how do i find out what happened to it or why it was removed. I went looking for it today, found out it was in an unauthorized site, that might have something to do with it.
  12. Acuallly, my girlfriend is the reason i keep geocaching. It gives us time together and she really gets a kick out of going to new places and especially finding and looking at the goodies inside the caches. I would say slow down a little and enjoy the moments together.
  13. Changes made from version 3.60 to 3.70: Changes to support manufacturing. Changes made from version 3.50 to 3.60: Added RCV_CPO support. Added Croatian language support. Updated various translations. Changes made from version 3.40 to 3.50: Fixed potential memory corruption problem that could occur when tracking more than one WAAS satellite simultaneously.
  14. I want to thank all of you that replied to this thread, it gives me a better idea of what type of cache i will probably put out.
  15. I know i am fairly new at geocaching and probably should reserve this question for a later date, but i am wondering how you look at geocaching. 1. do you consider it a sport, hobbie, pastime. 2. where do you see it heading. when i am out there searching, i often wonder what it is all about. i can see where it would be a great family type activity, an opportunity to introduce others to the sport, probably great for the kids to find the cache contents but right now it is an activity that i do when and if i have the time for it. I guess what keeps me going right now are the type of caches i tend to look for and the areas that they are located in. I am just wondering what others think of it, what keeps you going, and do you think it is something you will stick with the rest of your life.
  16. I am just curious of there are certain caches that you do not go for and why. right now i of sticking to places that are of interest to me, new parks, rivers, historical sites, etc. was just wondering if you had your own preferences.
  17. Thanks for moving this for me, guess i should have looked a little harder before i posted it. anyways, maintaining them would not be a problem, i live in virginia, go to north carolina at least twice a month and upstate new york at least three times a year, i plan on placing the one in new york close to where my brother lives and he will maintain it for me if the need arises.
  18. Within the next month or so i will be putting out three caches. one in NC. one in VA and one in upstate NY. within each one i will place a travel bug. Would it be proper to set destinations on a couple of the bugs, e.g. have the one in upstate new york make it was to the cache in north carolina and the one in north carolina make its way to the cache in New York? the one in Virginia will be left to find its own destination. also, when you place the bugs, can you attach them to anything, along with some type of instructions? thanks, just getting prepared in advance.
  19. Thanks, found it. the information you suggested was not showing up when i input my zip code, only when i went to a specific cache.
  20. LOL. yup, it made perfect sense to me.
  21. When i bring up the list of caches in my area, under the name of the cache is usually an abbreviation that normally starts with GC and then has a mixture of letters or numbers, normally six. what does this stand for?
  22. ok, so if i am reading the replies right, i am the only one seeing the ones i have found with the red checks? if so, i can live with that.
  23. How come there are red check marks showing on the cache finds that i post. am i doing something wrong, don't see them on others listed.
