  1. I bought a Garmin nuvi 200 last weekend. I put the SD card from my PDA into it that I had downloaded caches from GSAK to and they all popped up. I did the same thing today and couldn't get them to load. I called Garmin but they said it wouldn't work to do that because the unit wasn't made for geocaching. I'm confused, why did it work Sat but not today??? Anyone have an idea? I searched the forum for several hours & saw lots of helpful info but not the answer to this problem. Thanks!
  2. Not in the least! I have been into sporting clays, golf and country club tennis in the past and, after the initial investment, geocaching does not compete money wise, even with the price of gas today! I also included the cost of a new notebook computer for $1300.00.
  3. I had a similar thing happen to two of my caches by the same cacher. He left a marker on top of each of them. On one I moved the marker and left the cache where it was & on the other I elevated the cache 5 ft above it's previous position and left the marker but made no note about either on the cache page. I really do like making the arrow point another direction but that kind of punishes future cachers for someone else's arrogance.
  4. I'm just got my first Pocket PC a couple of weeks ago and it's an iPAQ also. To make it worse (at first) I have a new notebook that runs Vista. Here's what I finally got to work after about a week of serious frustration! I save the PQ into my documents in my notebook. I then open the database folder in Cachemate I want it in on my iPAQ in the mobile connection center and just drag it over. I've only done it a few times, but it seems to work fine. If you don't run Vista on you computer this may not work, I don't know. I'm not much of a techie.
  5. I don't think I sent the correct URL but I generated one today that worked just fine. I looked at one of the ones I did yesterday and I had put in the waymark name but hadn't checked the circle so that was probably the problem. Thanks for your help. Chalk it up to user error.
  6. Sorry, but I don't know what the URL is. I tried right clicking around the page but copy was not an option. I'm pretty sure I did change the from origin each time. The URL is the page's web address. It's shown somewhere near the top of your browser. For a pocket query, it will look something like this: http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/gcquery.a...c2-aef03a90e3bd http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/gcquery.a...bc-0dac12e674eb Thanks!

  9. Last weekend we were going to visit one of our sons in another city. I used his zip code in a PQ to search for nearby caches. The results were caches 300+ miles away from my target area. Thinking I had made a typo, I tried again. Same results. Ok, so I used the map to find a cache in the area and used its coords. Same results. Then I tried using it's waypoint name. Same thing. After about the third waypoint name in the area I finally got the results I was looking for. Same problem today. I am going to be in a neighboring city tomorrow so I did a PQ on the coords of a cache I had found there before. I got caches in the same area of the results I got last weekend. Tried using the waymark names of 2 different caches in my target area and still got the same results. What am I missing?? I am very frustrated!
  10. I searched the forums but didn't see the answer. I recently put out a new series and got several comments about the coords. being off. So, diligent owner that I am, I went back out and researched. Yes, a couple do need to be changed. I tried to change them with a log entry but even with only a .001 degrees change but keep getting an error message saying it is too far from the original and I need to contact the reviewer. What am I doing wrong?
  11. Thank you, Paul! You just gave me the inspiration to add the following to my profile stats: DNF LOGS: 56 (and still going strong!) I appreciate DNFs just as much, if not more, than finds. Some of the more entertaining caching moments for me have been on DNFs! So, this probably serves as an answer to your OP. There are no hard-fast rules, but I would recommend leaving DNF logs - even for caches that were not there and have been archived. As Starbrand pointed out, a "did not find" is one regardless of the cache - you did not find it. Wow, this one sure prompted a lot of discussion How about if you find the cache container with no lid and a laminated card next to it that appears to be the stash note? There was no log to sign but I logged a find and emailed the owner that it had been damaged and moved. Was this the right way to handle this situation?
  12. Thanks, I'll play with that and see if I can't get it to work.
  13. Thanks. I have printed it several times but other than reducing it on a copier (and that isn't readable when small enough) but can't figure out how to get it to log form and size.
  14. I wondered the same thing. but my question is even more basic...what is a html page and how do you create it?
  15. I'm new to geocaching and it seems to me most people use a standard log in their caches. I have looked around the website and getting started, but haven't been able to locate it. Would someone please let me know where to find it so I can print some? Thanks.
