  1. gorgeous looking coin! I'll have to see what my budget is like when they go on sale...
  2. I received 2 Sailboat Suncatcher Geocoin. One Limited Edition and One Regular Edition. These match up very well with the Lighthouse Suncatcher coins of the same series. Naomi/Mousekat (sp?) is a great coin designer!
  3. I'm a Macintosh user and have downloaded both MacCaching and Geojournal and can honestly say that I like MacCaching better. Geojournal makes it very hard to edit cache information, this might be easier if you pay to register the program, I don't know because I wasn't going to buy licenses for both programs. Plus the Geojournal software is $30 vs the $15 for MacCaching. MacCaching is a great program. The Smart Cachelists more than make up for the $15 license fee. Once registered you can create as many Smart Cachelists as you want, heck even with the 4 Smart Cachelists in the unregistered version are nice to have. I use the Smart Cachelist feature for caches in different states and my found caches so I don't have them all in one list. The forums for MacCaching are much more active than Geojournal's. For example I made a post in the Feature Requests section of MacCaching's Forum for an ability for "Sort by date added" and the creator of MacCaching said he'd add it to the list of improvements, so its nice to see that the creator is active in his own forums and listens to peoples requests for new features.
  4. I'm going to recommend the Garmin GPSMap 76CSx. High sensitivity, rugged, waterproof, floats, expandable memory, auto-routing function with the right maps installed. The last time I check Amazon.com the 76CSx was about $220. all depends on what you need and want, dont forget to check Garmin's website and do a side by side comparison of their units.
  5. I have a 2GB microSD card in my 76CSx and its only 51% full. The City Navigator 2008 NT maps take up 992.38MB. With city caching your best bet is the City Navigator maps. Most of my caches have been found in the woods and I don't really need the topo maps because I know the parks that I'm geocaching in. Plus the City Nav maps are great for getting you where you need to go, I used mine to get around the city I was visiting this past weekend. I'm a Macintosh user myself, unfortunately when I order my City Navigator maps there wasnt an installer for the Macintosh available so I had to install the maps with my PC. As for Geocaching software there are 2 good programs available for the Mac: Maccaching which is the program that I use and really really like it. Its much easier to edit cache info in Maccaching than it is in GeoJournal. GeoJournal was my first geocaching program that I tried on the Mac. It's a nice looking program but it was difficult to modify cache info in the program, plus you could not edit every field. My guess is once you buy the license you'd be able to edit all the info. I am in no way affiliated with either program listed above, just providing my thoughts on two decent geocaching programs for the Macintosh. Enjoy your new GPSr! I know I've enjoyed my 76CSx and really hope you end up getting your unit setup the way you want!
  6. Today I received a geocoin that is quite possibly going to become my favorite geocoin in my collection. The Outer Banks Lighthouse Benchmarks Geocoin. This is a truly a masterful piece of work. I've been going down the the Outer Banks of North Carolina for nearly 20 years and have seen every lighthouse except Cape Lookout. I cant even remember how many times I've hiked to the top of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, quite possible one of the most beautiful views is at the top of that lighthouse. I'm going to make it a point to take this coin and the Wright Brothers Memorial Benchmark geocoin with me the next time I go to the Outer Banks.
  7. I received my set of Viking Heritage geocoins. One axe and one shield in the antique bronze, these are gorgeous coins!
  8. these are stunningly gorgeous coins. I received my set over the weekend but was out of town until last night. just opened them about 30 minutes ago and was blown away by them. I swear I'm going to go broke buying all the coins Naomi creates
  9. Taubin has 4 finds in MI and their car is a travel bug.
  10. if your staying at one of the big hotel/casinos on the strip you could get their address and go here http://www.geocaching.com/seek/ and input the address and that will show you all the caches relatively close by. at least thats what I'd do also I'm going to recommend you walk from Mandalay Bay to the Stratosphere at night. seeing the Strip all lit up at night is a great photo opportunity, mind you it is a 3 mile hike but its a lot of fun.
  11. E&Cplus3 lives in Nova Scotia and develops web applications, and probably has to avoid the moose that lives in his backyard
  12. I know exactly what my first coin is, its sitting right next to me and I use it to track my finds. it is a Crystal Fairy geocoin that I won off of ebay for $10. Front http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t239/Jhengen/100_1301.jpg Back http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t239/Jhengen/100_1302.jpg
  13. I received two of the Sunburst Nature Geocoins yesterday. one LE and one standard version. these are gorgeous coins. P.S. Naomi, those Sailboat Suncatchers are absolutely gorgeous!!
  14. impressive! less than two months and your coin has reached its goal. dont know if its a record but its gotta be one of the fastest completions that I've seen. what will your coin do now?
  15. the top left image in the first post and the bottom right image in the first post would be awesome designs for a geocoin. of course I have intense fascinations with any dealing with dragons and fantasy creatures. thanks for sharing those images!
  16. when I do go hiking/caching in the woods I always looks for a large sturdy stick. this way I've got a stick to use for caching or hiking and it can rapidly turn into a long range weapon if need be the case. but always be aware of your surroundings, if you pay attention there is a good chance you'll see if there is anyone around you and if they look like trouble you can cut bait and run.
  17. I missed the sale and wish I hadn't, but even more than that, I hope they make a copper version of this awesome coin. thanks for the cointest! also a very gorgeous coin!
  18. nearest found: 0.6 miles from my home co-ordinates nearest not found: 1.9 miles from my home co-ordinates
  19. on the main Geocaching.com site there is an option on the left hand side for "Trackable Items" when you click on that link it will ask you for a code, for example SCTHK#, and this will take you to the travel bug/geocoins information page where you can log an entry for the coin. also if the coin happens to have a unique icon, once you discover the coin you'll get that icon in your inventory page.
  20. I received my trackable camo patch today from cachezone.us and am highly impressed by the quality of the patch. it went directly onto my caching bag once I got it activated
  21. I got my patch today in the mail. very very nice! the metal tag is actually quite secure on my patch. if I had to choose between the patch and a travel bug tag I'd go with the patch every single time.
  22. capitol letter "I" tends to look a heck of a lot like number 1, and captiol "O" tends to look like 0. so try swapping the letters/numbers that look similar. other than that if you still have no luck logging them you might want to wait till later in the day in case the server is having issues.
  23. I personally use Macintosh as my computer of choice. I'm going to recommend you look at MacCaching for managing your geocaches. http://www.maccaching.com/ Personally I own a Garmin GPSMap 76CSx which is essentially the same exact hardware in a different case, buttons are above the screen on the 76CSx while the 60CSx are below the screen. There are also a couple of other differences between the two units, IE 76CSx is waterproof and will float. To my knowledge the 60CSx should work perfectly well with the Macintosh. For me I just plug the 76CSx into a USB port and MacCaching will send the geocaches right to the unit without any problems. I know a lot of people will recommend the 60CSx and probably the Venture HCX units. The best thing to do if its possible is go to a local store and hold/play around with their selection of GPS units. who knows you might find a different unit other than the 60CSx that you like a lot more.
  24. at present time there are no hand held gps units with a touch screen. the only gps' with touch screens are the in car gps units and those are not the greatest to use for geocaching for a multitude of reasons. with that being said I'm going to recommend the Garmin GPSMap 76CSx. very nice unit, rugged, waterproof, it floats, good satellite lock even under trees, expandable memory, auto-routing with the right maps.
