  1. Canyons are one of my main problems, and I find that I get serious multipath errors with my 62s and my 60CSX. Tracks can be as much as half a mile off. This was from my 60CSX, but the 62s was no better. Hike is Angels Landing in Zion.
  2. If there's a problem with a card, you can always re-format it. Cleaning up internal memory errors is more complicated.
  3. Free topo maps for the US at GPSfiledepot.com. For the whole world at garmin.openstreetmap.nl.
  4. The 62s also supports connections for an external antenna and a few more transfer protocols. Probably the biggest difference is in the buttons. The 62s permits forward and back menu selection. The Etrex just goes back. You can get a comparison here.
  5. If you have a routable map and you select any profile but "direct" in BaseCamp a magenta line will route you over the road, or trail from your start point to your end point. If you just get a straight line between start and end points and your profile is not set to "direct" your map isn't routable. If your where you got your map from doesn't describe the map as routable it probably isn't.
  6. Auto routing only works with a routable map. Do you know that your map is routable?
  7. Try comparing the tracklogs in BaseCamp. Tracklogs are generally more reliable than trip odometers.
  8. Try openfietsmap, or garmin.openstreetmap.nl. Both are free. Or you could pay for and download City Navigator EU.
  9. I don't think it would hurt to leave it enabled. You can always disable it later if it gives you a problem.
  10. Your Etrex requires a map to be installed beyond the basemap. Suggest you try http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ for free Garmin maps or pay for City Navigator maps.
  11. I think to "generate circles" you need software that will generate a "range ring". Global Mapper will do that, but I'm not aware of any freeware that will do it.
  12. Google translate left out the receiver bit, at least in syntax where it made sense.
  13. Sandy, I don't think you should be discussing cache finds here. You are in the wrong forum, with the wrong language.
  14. Thanks. It is already in WGS84... should i try another? Not unless you know that the map has been created with another datum. How far off the road are you? Could be the map was just badly drawn. I know that's true for OSM imports for parts of the USA. The road in front of my house is drawn maybe 50 feet further from my house than it should be. (Hate having that imaginary extra yard to mow. )
  15. Try setting lat/lon and datum to WGS84 if they aren't there already. If that doesn't work, describe the misalignment.
  16. Correct for the US, but other sources, (Talky Toaster, garmin.openstreetmap.nl, opencyclemap, openfietsmap) are better for UK and Europe. Postholedigger's link has lots of links for the rest of the world.
  17. That assumes the OP has a routable map. But I think if he did, the option would be "Follow Road" or one of the new profile related equivalents. "Lock On Road" locks the cursor to the road, even if you are off it. Jamie Z, do you know if your map is routable?
  18. I have an OR300 (assume the 450's similar). The screen can be locked by pressing the power button followed by one screen touch dialog. The problem I have with my OR's touchscreen is alphanumeric data entry. You should definitely try this in a store.
  19. You'll find lots more folks with nuvi expertise here: http://forums.gpsreview.net/viewforum.php?f=2
  20. Your link gets me this: Also, your signature line could be more descriptive. jbensman's "My Trails" is a custom trail map, but his is a vector trail map.
  21. The quality of the imagery depends on the source Garmin obtains it from. Might be worth changing the subject of your post to include locations of interest to folks with that imagery could respond.
  22. Try the "RoadTrip" (Mac BaseCamp) download from garmin.openstreetmap.nl
  23. MapSetToolKit is a complicated way to go for a noob. You are much better off if you can download a mapset that comes with a MapSource/BaseCamp "installer". That's an EXE file that unpacks the IMG files and makes the required registry settings to your PC. You've got a PC? If you have a Mac you need a Mac Installer. It won't be an EXE file, but it will do whatever is necessary to get the files on a Mac. The following is FYI. If you screw it up, you could break BaseCamp/MapSource, but maybe it will give you an idea what NOT to do. If you downloaded your map from one of the OpenStreetMap sites like garmin.openstreetmap.nl you won't be able to do much with MapSetToolKit unless you have a complete set of TDB and OverviewMap.IMG files to go with your IMG files. If you have those you can "Install" a mapset in MS or BC. If your IMG files were compiled with cgpsmapper, and you have a copy of cgpsmapper on your PC you can check the "Install In MapSource" box and "Start".
