  1. I've been away for awhile. You used to be able to print a cache log in PDF format which was great - now I don't see that option and when I print a log, I don't always get all of the information. Am I missing something? (I tried to search for PDF & log for any previous info but kept getting an error) Thanks!
  2. - BlueMotmot - You've really done such a special thing and I mean that. Gifting to perfect strangers. Was such a nice change of pace to read and follow this tread after some of the other, not so cheerful threads. I recieved your wonderful gift today and just wanted to say, again, THANK YOU and hope that you have the wonderful Holiday season you've helped create for others
  3. Garmin Protective Case for GPSMap 60C and 60CS (010-10578-00) from Amazon.
  4. I ready your initial post and initially thought - geesh - just replace log. I've ran into to caches needing a log, pen, and have built and carry my "cache repair" kit. But you made the point as to what to do with the old log and that made sense to me as well. THEN, out of curiosity, I had to read the logs of the cache and can certainly see your angst! But, like previous posts have said, forget them and Cache On. It's easy for anyone to see who has the real problem. Oh, and Happy Holidays to EveryOne!
  5. On the contrary, I've not noticed this problem. In fact this past Saturday, my "battery bar" got to one and shortly thereafter, beeped with a message that batterys were low or critical or somesuch - I continued to use it for at least another 1 1/2 hours and have even turned it one breifly a few times since to manage some waypoints. I've been very happy with the battery life
  6. Being new to GeoCaching, I had hoped a new GPSr would be under this.... Too late, could not wait..... Pomegrantes and Feathers
  7. There is another post comparing the 2 as well. I bought the 60CSX for myself then the VistaHCX afterward for partner. Both have at times displayed 0-1 feet as far as distance/accuracy to a cache. However, I would much prefer the Vista screen and ease of one handed use and if was to buy again, I would get me the Vista.

  9. Being relatively new to geocaching myself - and a huge Harry Potter fan - I understood "muggles" right off the bat. In my book, it fits. I suppose if one doesn't like the term, they can use whatever they might desire. Besides, far worse things to worry about than using the term muggle.
  10. Thank you so much. You are awesome for going above and beyond. It's just great to see things like this these days. We sincerely wish you the best Holiday Season!
  11. I bought the Garmin GPSmap 60CSx first then bought the eTrex Vista HCX next for Chris. I actually like the eTrex better. Easier one handed use and a much better screen
  12. I didnt realize untile reading this post that the virtuals had been eliminated. That sucks. I've done one and was the only reason for learning some local history that I had bypassed (didnt know about), even though I've lived in the area over 15 years.
  13. I did my first cemetary cache last weekend. Happened to be in Aurora, once a mining town of 20,000. Most of the markers are from the mid- to late 1800's and it was really interesting and a great way to learn the history. I've lived here for 15 years and have never made it up the mountain - so, thanks to the cache we saw some beautiful country, learned some history and visited the grave of my retired nurses parents (the cemertary is still used by some local old-timers). I think that as long as the placer is respectful, I see nothing wrong with cemetary caches.
  14. I too have a new 60CSx. Its great and often times will get me within 1 foot of the target. The thing to remember is that the pointer becomes less and less accurate when you are not moving - in fact, (I think the manual) states that anything slower than 4 mph and the pointer will not function. So, I typically will walk at a brisk pace, watching the pointer and the distance, until I am within 1-5 feet. I stop and let the distance and pointer "catchup". If Im not quite right, I turn 45 degrees and walk briskly about 10-20 feet and turn back toward the target again. Once you've done this a couple of times, you should have been able to "sight", using the pointer and the distance a very close zero point where your target is.
  15. Take them out - Chris and I (also geonewbies) took our 14 y/o Tori out today. Best family outing we've and forever! I know there are caches that carry more risk than others but from what I've seen, its posted in the description. Have fun!
  16. I searched but could not find this topic. I'm anxious to hear how others heard about geocaching and how bad they were bitten... Patients of mine, Maude and Hemy were in just last week. Maude explained her problem saying that she "got caught up in barbed wire while geocaching." Geocaching?? I use an electronic medical record so I have a tablet PC available in the room. They pointed me to geocaching dot com and we probably spent more time on geocaching than we did addressing Maude's reason for the visit. That evening, I explained the whole thing to Chris who seemed a little dubious that looking for little trinkets would be much fun. I was out the next day putting coordinates (as best as it allowed) in the navigation system of the Lexus. Found my first cache pretty easily and proceeded to call Chris to come have a look see. We lived within 2 blocks of our first cache and did'nt even know it. Chris caught the bug once he saw the proof of our previous nights discussion and found his first cache. We spent most of that first Saturday using the navigation system and the Lexus with about 50% luck. Sometimes we were close enough to find a cache at at others, the Lexus put us as much as 3 blocks away. That was last Saturday. This Saturday, be now both have Garmin GPS' - one a GPSmap 60CSx and the other an eTrex Vista HCx. (We like both but I like the screen and brightness of the eTrex a little more for those of you wondering). We used them both today on the way to Reno via Yerington Nevada. We allotted some time for some caching on the way but the primary purpose of the trip was to pick up a trailer in Yerington to haul our new Arctic Cat Prowler XT (after stopping by the Lexus dealer to get a tow hitch for the Lexus). We also had the opportunity to introduce geocaching to Tori, Chris's 14 y/o daughter. What a wonderful day! When I first came to Hawthorne Nevada 15 years ago, my son (10 at the time) used to trek all over the place - Berilin, Lundy, Bodie, Fletcher, the Elbow, Ion - all great places. Then as my son became older, we just didn't and for the past 10 years, weekends are spent working or recovering from work. We are so excited now to have found an activity that offers so much - especially getting back out of doors! Thanks Maude and Hemy! p.s. Should we all try to pass along the "Bug" or keep it to ourselves?
