  1. OK i think i have it fiqured out, I think this was with the geocoin and this is basically the "goal sheet" Someone took the coin and left this Geocoin buddy thinking it was a travel bug like i did.... It has been a rough week......It was in it's own plastic bag so I assumed it was a travel bug and now i found out i am an idiot....ok never mind!!!! Thank you for replies....
  2. As far as the owner if you are looking at a cache it tells you the inventory of the cache and you click on what ever item you have taken (travelbug, geocoin) and it took me to the travel bug page where it tells you who the owner is and then you click ont he owner's info where you can email the owner off their geocache profile! there is anothe way to but to long to type Just like I can tell you you own vegas babes #1 and it is in the collins cache and no one has taken it yet!
  3. No it did not look like one of those.... http://shop.geoswag.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/tbitems.html It is off this page at the very bottom left... Like i said it looks like a travel bug but it is called a geocoin buddy, which is the same as the travel bug buddy..
  4. I sent him an email again. I just want to log this but there is no tracking number printed or stamped on this. I checked even the thin outer edge. I have seen little cards attached with information but not with this.
  5. It says it is a traveling geocoin that it identical to a travelbug (looks like a military dog tag) Either way it wont let me log it in. I have logged in geocoins with no problems. This is the first time I have had an issue
  6. Ther is no ID on the bug there are no printed or stamped numbers on this
  7. I have the same problem. I tried to log it and the ID is not valid. It has a memo on the Travel bug page to use a certain ID. I copied and pasted off the page and I emailed the owner and he sent me two ID's neither of them worked. Other people have logged it I don't understand Why I can not. I found it from- Suny geneseo cache, in NY. I am thinking of just dropping it another cache but I will try here first for suggestions... This is what the cache owner emailed me.. Try one of these numbers: TB1HVWR or CHM887. One of these should work. The TB1hvwr is posted on the TB's log
  8. I started in october. My friend and I were going to a teacher conference in Oswego and after the conference he said want to go geocaching? I have heard of it before but to be honest it sounded Dumb (don't yell it was before i started) he said we will try one and see so he told me how to put the cords. in and had me navigate while he drove. We got to a park and he had me lead to the cache. Found the bush where it was and he and I were looking, he thought maybe it was gone untill i got on my back and stuck my head under the tree and found it hidden very well. Since that cache I was hooked we did three more while we were there and I started on my own. I did not log those cache's for me because I never had an account. Now I go when I can, I have a three month old baby and a new house so it is hard to get out all the time. I have my wife interested in caching as well. It is hard to take the baby in the cold weather, when it is warmer I will do more cache's. I try to do one every couple of days on my way home from work! I love doing it just wish I had more time, I plan on pacing my first cache in a few weeks!
  9. I have a GRMS it is a motorola t9500 I beive it the distanc is ten miles, I do have a FCC permit ($80 a year) I bought the radios bought my permit, used them 4x's this week for deer hunting and the range seemed to be maybe .75 miles not even close to ten miles and when i called motorola they said that distance is tested in a desert that is flat with nothing in the way, so I quess i am telling you to watch what you are using it for if it will be used for other things like this it may not be worth the cost in certain area's
  10. I have used it, it has been helpfull but there are alot of places in Ny where it is fuzzed out here is an example N 42° 30.175 W 078° 15.810 This is one of many, i work in a rural area, and My house is on the border or rural and suburban, works fine from my house working towards buffalo but the further away from a city you get the fuzzier the images! Edit-- I checked google earth, I only have the free one does the $20 package give you a better image? Sorry for posting and not reading correctly...
  11. I know this is a little late but for anyone else... I had to do this for a few things with my work account, you have to add the automated email address into your contacts so you email filtering knows this is a realiable source and not spam!
  12. gotcha thanks for all the posts! I quess i will just have to take it one cache at a time!
  13. I quess my question should have been how high is to high for a difficulty at level one, I understand that there is going to be cache's high but i would think with a more difficult rating not a rating of 1... I hope this makes more sense for my question my appoligies..
  14. I thought it would be more than a 1, i fiqured a 2 would be approapriate but being new i was not sure how the ratings worked and if this was typical. I figured a level 1 would be ground to head hight, anything higher would be a more diffucult rating... But that is why newbie's like myself ask questions.
  15. After talking with the science teacher he thought it would be a a great way to teach about GPS and Geocaching, they will get some lessons from the science teacher and some in my class (technology) I have only heard about geocaching and did not think i would like it, but a good friend of mine does this and we went out saturday for my fisrt time. lets say i really like it and now i am pumped to teach this unit, i think more so than the science teacher!!
  16. thank you for that website! OK so this is something i should be prepared for or if it is above my level i will leave it! Thank you for the info!
  17. I've seen many caches 50ft or more up a tree. Would the terrain or diffuculty rating be higher or would it still be at a 1 for something like that?
  18. I just started geocaching this saturday, I was with my buddy who has been doing this for 6-8 months now and we were looking everywhere for a cach and he noticed something on a tree where the trunck ends and the branches start but the problem it was pretty high. I had to give him a boost (i'm 5'11") if i had to guess it was about 8' up the tree from the ground is this typical or was this to high. My buddy searched for easy cach's for me to hunt being new. I was just wondering if i should bring a step stool with me or is this an isolated thing? He said he has not seen any like this and i belive he has ~70 cachs under his belt...
