  1. Great contest idea. Starting to really get hooked on caching. Hello from Kentucky!
  2. I'm still somewhat of a noob to the hobby, but have seemed to develop a routine for searching certain types of areas. Now many of the caches I find within a minute or two, and i'm not talking about easy ammo boxes or tupp containers. I'm talking about cleverly hidden small containers or micros in wooded or other interesting areas. Every now and then I seem to come across a cache where I sort of go into a search routine. If I know the container it usually goes something like this. Keep in mind I usually read all found it and DNF logs before heading out but do not read any actual hints until I have spent about 10 minutes at a spot. Once I determine ground zero I'll give the area a good glance to see if anything initially sticks out. After this I would give it a quick comb over poking my finger in every hidey hole I can spot. If this proves fruitless my 2nd search round I start really examining areas in about a 25 foot radius. Usually by now I have cache in hand, if not at this point i'll take the hint. Now the 3rd search round is tricky. This round has a lot to do with whether or not my girlfriend is out with me. If i'm caching alone, and the hint is no real help, I will start having doubts as to if i'm in the correct area, or if the cache is still there. This 3rd round will usually consist of me stumbling around, shaking things, kicking things, throwing things and just generally working out some frustration on the surroundings. If my girlfriend happens to be with me on this hunt, I stay a bit more mellow because the longer I look happy, the longer before she says the dreaded words "why don't you just call this one a no find," and option that is absolutely never viable until the 45 minute mark. Keep in mind my girlfriend loves watching me look for these things, but god forbid she would get a spec of dirt under her fake fingernails, or a spider pop out from a hiding spot. Now the 4th round of searching closely resembles the 3rd round, especially if my girlfriend is with me, this is also the final round is she is with me. Only real difference is now i'm thinking back to other caches I may have found from the same hider, and trying to recall any similarities with the area, kind of trying to think like the hider. There are a lot of "it should be right here," and a few expletives tend to slip out this round as well. Now the 4 or 5 times I have reached the dreaded 5th round I have always been alone, or with my buddy Devon, who shares the same mentality as I do while caching. After I have stuck my arm as far up as I can reach in every hidey hole in the area, shaken every bush, flipped every rock, checked every log and pinecone and kicked every stump, my thoughts start to reflect on the area and once I convince myself that I gave it the best search I possibly could, I come to the realization that it's just not my day. I will move on to the next cache, and I WILL post a DNF when I return home. Anyone else have silly routines like this? Or a similar illness?

    TB question

I still have the TB. I just was not sure what i needed to do in order to be able to place it in another cache. I dont care about the numbers, just want to move it along.

    TB question

The TB is "Flip flop foot" I have left a note in the logs, but still not sure what to do. I would prefer not to head back to the cache since its far from me and no others around.

    TB question

Hello I'm still pretty new to the hobby and a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be FTF to a local cache. The person who hid the cache is very new and had placed a TB in it which i retrieved. The problem is that when they put the travel bug in their cache they left a note for it instead of actually logging it into their own cache. When I picked it up and tracked it i realized this and sent them an email. It took them about 2 weeks to respond, they also had the TB for over 3 months before putting it in their cache. I really want to get this TB moving but when they sent me an email asking me what they needed to do I had no idea of how to fix this problem. I've looked on the site but still can't really figure it out. I want to make it as simple as possible so they can understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Reed
  6. Ah so I don't even need a phone PDA? I just assumed it had to be a phone PDA and never thought about just the regular organizer types.
  7. I'm thinking of buying a PDA over the holidays. My main question is can I download the appropriate programs I will need and then transfer all info about the cache to the PDA without having actual internet access on the PDA? Will just a plain PDA without service be capable of receiving this information? Thanks Reed
  8. I was not selecting a day. Its working now, thanks for the help mates.
  9. The “my finds” works perfectly but I can only run that once per week. I don’t understand what you mean when you say “Bear in mind, that you can only run 5 PQs a day, and a single PQ can only be run in once per day.” Thanks
  10. I have recently done several PQ’s and for some reason I am not getting any emails with the search results. The past 2 days I have gotten no emails at all with the PQ’s I requested. I can preview the search just fine on the PQ page but is there a way to actually load the entire gpx file into GSAK with the emailed file? Has this been a problem with the site for a while? I’m starting to regret upgrading my membership after a few days of this. Thanks in advance Reed
  11. Still being rather new this site has managed to stump me once again. I’ve read, and reread on how the pocket queries work but do not seem to understand how the emails work. I run a query, and its supposed to email me a zip file I can use for a program to display my finds on my profile. I ran one last week with no problems, email was sent right after running the query. However tonight when I ran the query to update my states on my profile, it for some reason has not sent the email after several hours. Is there a queue time that you have to wait when there are multiple people running queries? Also, it says you can only have a max of 500 finds sent to your inbox, yet I see people with 2000+ caches listed on these display programs. How are they doing this? Thanks in advance Reed
  12. Hey all Very new to the game here. Was wondering how and if its possible to change the (from home coords to cache distance) to show this distance in miles instead of kilometers? If it is possible how would I go about doing this. Thanks in advance Reed
