Hallo radioscout und cezanne, danke für euer feedback zu unserer Meinung und cezanne hat Recht, dass das optionale Foto jetzt doch noch strikter gesehen wird als bisher. Da müssen wir unsere Earthcaches wohl nochmal umstricken oder ggf. archivieren, so wie es andere leider auch schon getan haben (siehe Stueys Fossilcache). Was uns an eurer Meinung ein klein wenig stört ist die Tatsache, dass ihr beide keine Owner von Earthcaches seid und da lassen sich einige Sachen leichter sagen als sie für manche Owner sind. Im amerikanischen Earthcache-Forum wurde von einem Geologen kritisiert, dass Fotos von der geologischen Formation keine zusätzliche Logbedingung mehr sein dürfen, obwohl sie in seiner täglichen Arbeit Bestandteil der geologischen Dokumention sind. Er hat außerdem schon Antworten zu seinen Fragen gehabt, wo er davon ausgegangen wäre, dass die Leute gar nicht vor Ort waren, wenn das Foto nicht gewesen wäre. So wusste er, dass die Leute die Location tatsächlich besucht haben und hat ihnen Hilfestellung bei der Beantwortung gegeben. Uns geht das mit einem unserer EC genauso. Er enthält eine Schätzfrage und Schätzfragen sind immer vage, aber wenn jemand total daneben liegt, weil er das Phänomen selber falsch verstanden hat oder die Sache aus anderen Gründen bei seinem Besuch gerade schwer zu entdecken ist, dann wissen wir wenigstens aufgrund des Fotos, dass derjenige vor Ort war und helfen weiter. Dadurch wurde der geologische Lerneffekt in unseren Augen auch im Nachhinein noch erreicht. Wir haben aber keine Lust, Leuten auf die Sprünge zu helfen, die sich nur einen Statistikpunkt abgreifen wollen, ohne vor Ort gewesen zu sein. Die Gestaltung von Earthcaches macht Spaß, kostet aber viel Zeit, das Lesen und Beantworten der Mails zu den Fragen ebenso, es kann auf Dauer mehr Zeitaufwand bedeuten als die Wartung einer Dose. Hierbei meinen wir nicht die Antworten, die von vornherein richtig sind, sondern die Mails von Leuten, die sich entweder wenig Mühe mit richtigen Antworten geben oder wo das geologische Wissen praktisch Null ist und selbst eine einfache Frage Probleme bereitet. Das sind aber dann die, wo wir uns bisher immer die meiste Zeit genommen haben, um ihnen das Gesehene noch einmal ausführlich zu erläutern. Bisher. Denn sollten wir zukünftig das Gefühl bekommen, dass unsere EC mehr und mehr zum Pushen irgendwelcher Statistiken benutzt werden, wie es teilweise schon passiert, dann werden wir unsere EC wohl dicht machen. Das hat nichts mit "lieber ein schöner als ein sicherer EC" zu tun, denn wir plädieren weiterhin für beides. Mehr werden wir dazu jetzt nicht schreiben, denn die Regeln stehen und welche Konsequenzen sich letztlich daraus für die Qualität der EC ergeben werden, wird sich sicherlich noch zeigen. Ein nettes Beispiel hat ein Cacher aus den arabischen Emiraten gepostet, der erstaunt ist, dass plötzlich sehr viele ausländische "Touristen" (hauptsächlich Deutsche übrigens) bei seinen EC "einfliegen", nur um seine Earthcaches zu besuchen und alle Tradis etc. nahebei zu ignorieren, da sie am gleichen Tag in Urlaub in Südborneo sind. Ich habe mir spaßeshalber ein paar der EC angeguckt und fand die gesehenen alle gut, interessant und lehrreich. Aber vielleicht sind das die nächsten, die archiviert werden, weil der Owner aufgrund der erneut geänderten Bedingungen die Lust verliert. Schönen Gruß, (Balla &) Silly

Als Liebhaber von guten Earthcaches sehen wir die ganze Entwicklung mit sehr gemischten Gefühlen. Auf der einen Seite würden wir es sehr begrüßen, wenn nicht mehr jeder zweite Findling, jede Quelle oder jede Bodenerhebung als Earthcache zugelassen wird, bei der es geologisch nichts zu lernen gibt und wovon es schon zig Beispiele in der näheren oder weiteren Umgebung gibt. Das schlechteste Beispiel war für uns ein Cache auf einem ehemaligen Burgwall, wo man im Internet Fragen zum Hochzeitsdatum des damaligen Königs (oder so ähnlich) und das Restaurationsjahr eines Gebäudes recherchieren musste. Das hatte nun mit Geologie so gar nichts mehr zu tun und unser Interesse an Earthcaches wurde zeitweise ein wenig getrübt. Auf der anderen Seite verursachen immer striktere Reglements bei uns auch ein gewisses Unbehagen. Nicht an jeder Stelle, wo es geologisch etwas zu lernen gibt, stehen entsprechende Infotafeln herum, um dieses Wissen direkt vor Ort vermittelt zu bekommen. Wir haben schon (in unseren Augen) sehr gute Earthcaches besucht, bei denen eine anschließende Internetrecherche erforderlich war, die uns das vor Ort Gesehene anschließend hervorragend verständlich gemacht hat. Da haben wir deutlich mehr gelernt als beim Abschreiben irgendwelcher Daten von einer Tafel oder beim Schätzen einer Größe vor Ort, wie es auch von uns als Owner schon verlangt wurde, damit der EC freigeschaltet wurde. Bei "wie hoch ist der Fels" oder "wie breit ist die Rinne" lerne ich keine Geologie vor Ort, da brauchen wir uns nichts vormachen. Wenn wir aber z.B. wie bei "A Crusty Meadow" zu Frage 3 anschließend noch recherchieren müssen, um das geologische Phänomen richtig zu verstehen und mit eigenen Worten erklären zu können, dann bringt uns das deutlich mehr und der Lerneffekt ist wesentlich höher. Ebenso betrachten wir Earthcaches auch als Möglichkeit, geologische Besonderheiten vor Ort zu zeigen, also Lernen durch Sehen. Dazu finden wir krampfhaft an den Haaren herbeigezogene Fragen weniger hilfreich als das Beweisfoto von der geologischen Stelle. Da muss der Besucher wenigstens hingucken, um das geologische Motiv im Kasten zu haben. Wie genau er das macht, steht natürlich auf einem anderen Blatt. Aber ggf. setzt er sich mit so einem Foto mehr mit der geologischen Besonderheit vor Ort auseinander als mit dem Ablesen einer Zahl von einer Tafel. Und wenn die Location nichts derart Verstecktes hergibt, das nicht auch im Internet recherchierbar wäre, dann halten wir ein "geologisches Foto" weiterhin für sinnvoll, um den Statistikpunkt von der Couch aus zu verhindern. Glücklicherweise ist das ja auch nach dem 1.1.2011 als Bestandteil der "geologisch-wissenschaftlichen Aktivität für das Loggen" weiterhin zulässig, sofern nicht die Abbildung irgendwelcher Inhalte gefordert wird, die mit der geologischen Besonderheit nichts zu tun haben. Natürlich gibt es auch tolle Earthcaches, die beispielhaft Überlegungen und/oder Untersuchungen der geologischen Besonderheit vor Ort zur Bedingung haben und dadurch lehrhaft sind und auf weitere Aufgaben verzichten können. Aber es gibt eben auch geologisch hoch interessante Orte, wo andere Aufgaben für den Lerneffekt mehr Sinn machen. Wäre schade, wenn die irgendwann durch Überreglementierung keine Chance mehr als Earthcache hätten. Schönen Gruß an alle EC-Fans, (Balla &) Silly Nachtrag: Bei allem Lerninteresse möchte ich zusätzlich gerne noch erwähnen, dass man auch den Spaßfaktor nicht ganz vergessen sollte. Ich weiß, dass der Aspekt der "tollen Location" auch im englischsprachigen Earthcacheforum schon zu heftigsten Diskussionen geführt hat und Gary diesen "Wow-Faktor" nicht gelten lässt. Aber die Wenigsten von uns dürften Geologen sein oder ein derart ausgeprägtes geologisches Interesse haben, dass eine aus rein geologischer Sicht interessante Location, wo man zwar etwas lernen, aber ansonsten nichts Interessantes sehen kann, keinen vom Hocker reißt. Wer die Leute für Geologie interessieren möchte, sollte daher aus unserer Sicht das Ganze ruhig etwas lockerer betrachten und geologische Formationen mit Staunfaktor und geringem Lernfaktor ebenso zulassen wie reine Lernorte. Letztlich sind wir alle in unserer Freizeit und aus Vergnügen auf der Suche und nicht beruflich und deshalb sollte man auch in dieser Hinsicht die Regeln nicht zu eng festzurren.

Even though the comment of FelixZ is a pretty heavy personal attack we will answer some of his questions and then this subject is through for us. Why do you allege that we think we are the "Berliners"? Talking about the Berlin geocachers before in the same context it should be clear that the Berlin caching community was meant. Yes, that is easy but we don't see it as a privilege being on your list of friends. Your feeling is wrong. If we wanted to be the first to release a coin that is dedicated to Berlin we would have done so. But then we would have made it an official coin that would have been released by the Berlin geocachers and all the profit wouldn't have gone into our or another person's pocket, it would have been for the Berlin geocachers (going into events etc.). It was just all the time and effort that you have to put into a thing like this that was holding us back. So if you would have come out with an official coin going the way we just described we really would have appreciated that and you would have had our full support as much as our time would have allowed it. But instead you decided to release a commercial coin that looks like an official coin and now you call it a personal coin. Just because you are not the one who puts the profit in your pocket? When we first said that this is a personal coin we were wrong and the other people in this forum were right. It is a commercial coin because it's not dedicated to your person, it's going to be a series and someone is hoping to make money with it. We know the prices for producing a coin and we know that this coin is sold for quite some profit. That is why we don't like the way this coin is produced. We just don't like coins that are sold for profit and want to give the impression of being official (or personal) coins, especially when they are dedicated to the town where we live as well. If that is narcissistic to you we can live with it. We don't look at you as an "unworthy single guy" when we mentioned that you are not even a regular Berlin cacher. What we meant is that no single cacher should think that he can represent Berlin respectively the Berlin cachers without asking them. Not a cacher who is known in the whole scene and even more no cacher who is not even a regular Berlin cacher. But that comment was made when we still thought your coin should be an official coin. A personal or commercial coin can of course be released by every single cacher, no matter if he is a regular cacher or not, a commercial even by someone who is no geocacher at all. We hope we made that point clear. We didn't want to insult you. We just didn't like the idea of a single person releasing an official Berlin coin. Yes, that explains a lot. We love these guys who turn their back on Groundspeak and geocaching.com to join another caching community but when it comes to TBs and coins this service and the geocachers here are suddenly good enough again for them. Nothing. There is no official Berlin coin excisting yet. But calling it the "1st Berlin Geocoin" instead of "1st FelixZ Geocoin" might sell better, it's probably just a question of business.

This Geocoin is a project of FelixZ, who is a Cacher from BERLIN !!!. We never denied that. We said he is not even a regular Berlin cacher with the meaning of constant Berlin cacher when you look at his cache statistics. So most of the Berlin cachers won't even know the guy who thinks he can represent Berlin with his coin...

What a surprise! But we would like to state that this is a Personal Geocoin and no official Berlin Geocoin! After we did our Balla & Silly Geocoin where we used the Brandenburg Gate as well we were also thinking of releasing a Berlin Geocoin. But we never would have done that without asking the Berlin Geocachers. A "Berlin Geocoin" should be made by the Berlin Geocachers and not by a single person who is not even a regular Berlin cacher. What a pity that the "Berliners" were never asked... Balla & Silly

We still haven't got our 5 lighthouse coins v1 (!) and would like to ask if other cachers are also still waiting for their coins. We rarely order that much (usually 1-2 coins) and having paid $49,50 without hearing any news is starting to make us pretty nervous now... Balla & Silly

One more thing we've noticed. When you activate a B&S Geocoin it shows "Balla & amp; Silly Geocoin" on top of the coinsite because the system doesn't really like the "&" and wants to get told twice that it has to show it. You just need to do two clicks: - edit this item - submit changes That's it and the name on top will show "Balla & Silly Geocoin". Balla & Silly

Of course we are watching this thread but unfortunately we can't answer every question (like FlyinV's) or we prefer to write an email instead of a public answer. What makes us really happy are the positive reactions to our coin, especially to the design. And what we enjoy reading again and again is the feedback of guinea_gal, thank you very, very much! What a nice story as well! We are thinking of quoting some of the feedbacks on our site of the B&S coin and will contact the people who sent us mails or left a forum entry before we do so. We just got a notice that the first two of our "Balla & Silly Geocoins" have appeared on that e-place. We know we can't do anything against it but we'd like to say that we hate to see our coins on the shelf at that place. If we should find out who's behind the offers we'll make sure that these people will never purchase or trade a coin of us again. We tried our best to offer this coin at a reasonable price, so it would be affordable for everyone, and we didn't make one penny profit on it. Some missed the offer because of the greed of others and it's sickening to see these guys making profit on our coin... Balla & Silly

Well, after the arrival of the coins in the US we finally got our part as well today. They look really great, we are totally happy. Tomorrow we will index them and then handle the trades we've already done (plus the gifts for family and friends). And we will sort out the coins that we want to put into caches. Please understand if we can't say "yes" or "no" to any further trades in the moment. We've never done a coin production before and we are surprised how quick they still vanish. That's why we are stopping trades for a short while now until we know exactly how many coins will be left after all for further trades. The special icon isn't up yet but should be shortly. (Yes, of course I was curious and had to activate one coin.) But tonight it's just a big cheers for us! Balla & Silly

Sorry, but this seems to be an action which is just looking for the real big money. One person doing 50 state coins with 500 coins for each state - that's making profit on 25.000 coins! No, thank you. If "official" state microcoins appear we will be interested. But we have lost any interest in geocoins where we have the feeling that our interest is just used to fill someone elses pockets. Regards, Balla & Silly

Our two coins arrived as well today, many thanks, they look really great! They were posted in a bubbled envelope as usual with $3,80 on it and stamped on DEC 02! That's 6 weeks shipping time and gives us hope for another coin that we traded and that hasn't arrived yet.
