  1. Hi Ibycus I cant believe I got it working in two hours this time. Thanks Defoucault
  2. If your looking for a more 'rigorous' outline of quebec, there are ways and means of getting there, but I'm thinking this will probably do for your needs. Dale Thanks for the quick reply and yes This is enough for my application. Gee your quick. Thank again
  3. Hi Ibycus, again very nice work. Last year you helped me make a set of maps for Québec Province only with great success. I would like to do the same with this nicer set. My first hurdle is finding the map list that would cover the province. I have the whole download already but it is a nightmare to get the info off the TDB file. Is there any list I could go to. My memory is giving me a hard time on the procedure but I am thinking of using Mapsettoolkit to do this. Last year I had to ask too much of your time to process the whole thing. Thanks Defoucault
  4. I've actually fixed the bug that was causing the incorrect elevations to be displayed (which is the only bug that I've found in 2.0beta), but I was hoping to wait until some new road data is released on to Geobase before recompiling the whole country (yet again). 2.0beta is now the default version you get with MapUpdate as older versions don't work right with Mapsource 6.14 (unless you patch them). Dale Tanks for the quick response. If I get this right, the only difference in the new compile is the road data since the elevation thing is fixed in the download1/Tiles. If this is correct I can use some tiles as background to complete my forest road custom files. I did not upgrade to the new version of Mapsource 6.14 is there anything to gain with this release?
  5. Hi Ibycus, Had a good vacation? I just came back myself. How close are we of getting out of BETA for version 2.0? Just waiting to download the Quebec tiles.
  6. For my maps, you can now download http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/download/filelist.lst This will give you map name along with associated IMG file, and compilation date. Thanks Ibycus Iwish I could do the same for all Garmin Products
  7. Have you had a peek at "MapsetToolKit" I don't have the link handy, but it might be a useful way to shortcut some of these processes. Yes I use MapSetToolKit once in a while I do beleive it is one off the best to deal with img files. What I would like is something to see the 12345678.img with the title beside it so I could find a map fast with a text editor. There is something very close to it out there it is called Mapsource Map Explorer The link is http://www.geodude.nl/community/content/view/29/49/ Again if you want to find a map no tool for search. Or maybe I am missing something. (stubborn old man)

  9. There is a project underway, http://www.miscjunk.org/mj/mp_main.html They have not done WS yet, but if you ask them...... There is a utility on this site {.img File Information} using perl. I do not know perl. Is there a utility for windows xp or maybe Ibycus could make one. This looks very usefull....
  10. Hi Ibycus Just to let you know (and the Group) that I just succeeded in producing a working set of the Quebec province. This is due to your valuable help. I use your Topo_pv.txt that you provided with the free version of cgpsmapper with pvx command (cgpsmapper pvx topo_pv.txt). I also confirm that it is too much hassle, just do a complete install and enjoy life. So do not imitate a stubborn old man. After that 2 months of trial and miss and success I will download the whole thing anyway.CCCCCan't miss any of this. Keep up the good work since there is a LOT happening in the GARMIN world these day.
  11. Did you get my reply? I've sent you two, one via e-mail and one via PM. Basically there were two problems with your PV file. 1. You had NTDBData.img as one of your imgs... this is the preview map. You don't want to include that 2. This was likely the biggy, your lines weren't labeled img=imgfile.img they just had the name of the img file (hope that made sense). Dale Thanks I did get your messages OK, everything is working now with my index in Mapsource. I have the whole of Quebec covered but one blank. You made a happy old man thanks for everything again.
  12. They should be on the FTP site... host:ftp.ibycus.com username: anonymous@ibycus.com (this will probably screw up internet explorer's FTP engine... sorry, but my hosting provider insists on it) password: your e-mail address Files: \topomaps\imgs\10320709.img and \topomaps\imgs\10320710.img Note: There seems to be a limitation placed on me by my ISP, I can't have more than 2000 files listed in a directory. Given that there seems to be nearly 5000 here, they don't all get listed in WinSCP (or any other FTP client). They *are* all there though if you request them from the server. I'm working on my installer program (hopefully get it done this weekend) which will make this whole process easier. Thanks for the info Ibycus. I downloaded all of quebec and made a filelist.txt without problems. Now I need an index.I tryed to follow your filelist revision procedure but when I get to cgpsmapper to generate the index I get a 032 error code saying "level 1 cannot be empty" can you tell me how to continue. Thanks Could you e-mail me the file you're trying to run through cgpsmapper? I'll have a look and see if I can reproduce the problem. d a t k i n a t i b y c u s d o t c o m Thanks Ibycus, since I am fairly new at this forum stuff I wander if you got my messages.

  14. Hi Ibycus I was never able to compile 032G09 and 032G10. With your new compiling gurus can you figure this out.
  15. Warning... Technical mumbo jumbo follows. May not be appropriate for all readers I'm always needing to download multiple files from mapcenter (its how I get the tiles in the first place), so I've gotten pretty good at it. Lets see if I can walk you through the process. The way I download multiple tiles from mapcenter is to script the download. I use a program called wget (available free as part of the cygwin project, if you have trouble finding it, PM me). Basically what you do is create a file containing the names of all the URLs you want to download, and then type in wget -i filename.txt at the command prompt. To create the file, you need to figure out which map ids you want. Mostly I've uploaded a given NTS grid all at once, so the IDs are continuous. So, if I go to http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/maplist.ph...n=032&cat=4 you can see that the map id for 032P16 is 6578 (hover over any of the links for it). 032A01 is 6324. Next I go in to excel, and number a column with the appropriate mapids (6324-->6578) In the column next to that, put in ="http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/getmap.php?type=bin&id="&A1 and copy that down the column next to it. Next cut and paste that column in to notepad, and save as a text file. Go out to a command prompt, and run the wget command as stated above. OK, that's step one. The problem is, the files that get downloaded are not given proper names (you get files out called "getmap.php?type=bin&id=6324", unzipping these can be a pita if you don't do it with a little finess. So in the directory that you downloaded the files to, type "dir getmap* /b > move.bat", next open move.bat (right click on it, and hit edit), hit ctrl-A, ctrl-C (copy everything in the file to the clipboard) Now that you've done that, go back to excel, paste the filenames. In the second column type in ="move """&A1&""" "&mid(A1, 23, 4)&".zip" (note you may have to adjust the 23 a bit to get the mapid in the field). Copy and paste this cell for all maps. Select this column, copy to the clipboard, go back to the move.bat file, and select all in there (CTRL-A), and paste. Save, and run move.bat. You should now have a directory full of files called ####.zip. I then use winzip command line interface to unzip them all (or I'm sure you can use any number of tools to unzip them, if you're looking for one, I'm pretty sure there's one available as part of cygwin). *********************************************************************** end of technical mumbo jumbo. We now return you to your regularly scheduled forum banter OK I will give it a try
  16. Hi Ibycus I am back from the unsuccessful hunting season. I see that 032g09 and 032g10 did not compile??? Also is there a way to download say the province of Quebec without the installer and make my own installer? I find it very long to select all those files at mapcenter for individual downloads. I read the past post and realize your position for maintaining such a fragmented approach. What I was thinking would be a folder of those Quebec topos at Mapcenter or your server and just copy the new version to those folders and zip them. It could be a provincial approach contrary to Garmin's north and south approach to get us to buy all cd's Or is there a way to select multiple files for download at mapcenter??????
  17. Hi Ibycus, thanks for such a quick answer. I tried with version 0092 commercial routable no go ,tried with 0093c free still no go. the compiler strats to reed the dictionary and stays at that for hours. Of course tried with TRESize=to 5000 0093d was just released. Might want to give it a try. (If TRESize=5000 didn't fix it, it very well might not compile on the next round...). Another possibility, is to remove the 'vegetation' layer. The problem is that the vegetation polygons have hundreds of 'holes' in it, and cgpsmapper doesn't handle it very well. (GPSMapedit is a pretty good program for working with the mp files) Yes I use mapedit for those things too.It looks from Mapcenter that they did not compile either. I will give it a try in a couple of weeks cause now I have to work at shooting that nice buck you know????
  18. Hi Ibycus, thanks for such a quick answer. I tried with version 0092 commercial routable no go ,tried with 0093c free still no go. the compiler strats to reed the dictionary and stays at that for hours. Of course tried with TRESize=to 5000 I can wait for the next version but was just curious to learn more about compiling since I draw my own 20000 scale maps from mosaic jpeg's from the quebec topo map site in Trackmaker, then MapDekode. Sometimes I have to use Google Earth to find those bush roads and combine evrerything in Trackmaker. Keep up that good work you make a lot of people happy. Just on the side. I use one of your maps and inserted one of my own tracks which showed my boat trip exactly. Swicthed to garmin topo v2 and was 50 metres off inland after checking datum and anything else I could.
  19. Here's a newbie again. This is for Ibycus TOPOMaps. I live in Quebec and go fishing in the north part of the province. I have a great need for 032G and 032F since I am trying to locate a fishing camp that I and a couple of frends built in the 80's. In them days we could reach the camp only by plane. The object now is to find all forest roads in that area we could use to drive to the lake. Unfortunately in the nice work of Ibycus I found that 032G09 and 032G10 do not have the compiled img's. I tried to compile myself using the build file without success. These are a vital parts of this trip. Help Ibyscus Thanks PS Since this is my first post please indicate if I used a bad method or did something wrong.
