  1. Nice work Lyra. I was going to say I could probably track you down someone but looks like you're good to go.
  2. Here is me scoping an area out the other day... I wasn't stuck... I was in 4Lo in a very capable off road vehicle. HOWEVER... today I got stuck in mud bad! See this thread for the human stuckage today. http://ubbx.Groundspeak.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=5726007311&f=6216058331&m=56960999
  3. Well, I was out caching alone on my day off and my very first cache I got a real nice surprise that could have went very badly. See my log here for details http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?luid={600AD8B7-CCAA-469D-BF37-B0B9C0861282} So there I was just about waist deep in mud and I couldn't move. My cell phone was in my lower pocket in the mud, I had my pager, badge/ID and glock around my waist just barely out of the mud and I was stuck! LUCKILY, I was able to get my finger tips around a near by tree to dislodge myself. It was quite a struggle and very scary since I was in a very secluded area. Anyone else have a story like this or a close call?
  4. My wife and I are both commissioned officers in the military. We are both still on AD. I would prefer not to say where or what I do becuase of the nature of it. Once I PCS to a different base I should be able to share a bit more.
  5. RK, I hear you on bat life. Like I said... the wife really wants a color one and she is footin the bill for it. Who am I to complain!
  6. Stunod, Good to know... I was getting mixed intel on that. I have read that the Meridian Platnum/Color do and do not come with the jack. I guess I will go with do not... making me lean to the ST color more.
  7. B&D, I was thinking that same thing.... But which one outweights the other.... Expandability (will I really need it) and Ext Antenna option / No Digi Compass (ease of use) and "okay" screen or No expandability (will I really need it) and No Ext Antenna (will I really need it) / Digi Compass (makes life easier) and Hell of a nice screen
  8. Okay, I have been lurking here a while and have discussed geocaching with the wife. It looks like it's a go. I am very familiar with GPS and Land Nav courtesy of the United States military but have never thought of using it for fun! Usually, it is surrounded by long stints in the woods with lots of heavy equipment to be lugged on my back, minimal food, sleep, water, and clean clothes. With that said... I live in Bowie, MD where I will begin caching. I plan on taking the show on the road to PA and Central NY (where I am originally from). ----Now, on to GPS advice---- Okay here is the deal... the wife and I are going to be getting a GPS. She has stated she really wants a color one. Now the problem... Magellan Meridian Platnum (has all the features I WANT) - Digi Compass, Expandability, Ext Antenna Hookup Magellan Meridian Color - Doesn't have digi compass and I am having a HUGE problem with this. Otherwise has Ext Antenna Hookup, and expandability Magellan Sportrack Color - Best screen resolution, digi compass, NO EXPANDABILITY (just the 32mb it comes with), NO EXT ANTENNA HOOKUP We plan on using topo maps for geocaching, camping, hiking, ect. I would also like to mount this in my truck and use it. I do not know how well it will work without an ext antenna. Right now I'm leaning towards the ST Color because of the nice screen (color which is what wife likes) and digi compass. I just don't know how much I am limiting myself without expandability. If I was to be away from a computer for an extended period of time it would be in the woods not covering enough ground to need multiple maps. I own a laptop to use on the go... How about your thoughts on which GPS? Also, SHE is paying for it... I am merely going to be using it... mostly.
