  1. Will watch this thread with interest - I may be on wheels in the Summer S
  2. I have been tipped off that Morrisons klip and lock will be half price on the 27th december. got a fair few of them now floating around the house, not for long though i hope Till the 3rd of Feb (at least that's what the shelf label says..) S
  3. I'm only 16. Not attached to any other cachers, go out off my own back S
  4. 16, still in full time education studying for four A Levels. S
  5. Hi there, Can't say for certain but generally the L&L type seem to be decent - most have a rubber seal around the lid which helps to keep things dry. Could you let me know how much they were please? Cheers, S
  6. Cheers for the reply. I intend on either using one of the B&W Etrex models or a GPS60 (again, B+W) I heard you can set up a route in GE and then using GE2GPX you can get it to do what I'm after. I understand what you mean about autorouting - I use a TomTom in the car, but for example if I was planning a hike that was not on roads, I would not be able to use auto routing. With the make & model in mind, do you feel it is impossible to do what I'm after - to mark out a route, transfer it to GPS and then get it to guide me along the route? With regards to the U turn business - I would not be looking for the GPS to reroute me, I would decide (by looking at a map) the next best route to take, progress along it, and then hope the GPSr would realised that I had skipped a waypoint. Any further input would be appreciated S
  7. Hi Guys, I'm still trying to get a GPS, after a number of cachers not responding to my PMs / emails. I will probably be getting one of the Etrex range - not sure which, yet. If I use Google Earth to plan a route to travel along (small scale, round trip of, say, 4miles) including where I need to turn at each junction etc. and then export it to my GPS for me to follow, how does this work? For example, I am walking from A to C, via B. There is a "waypoint" set for each of A,B&C. B is a junction where I need to turn onto a track towards C I set off from A, towards B. On approaching B, I find that there is an obstruction and I cannot get within 100' of the actual designated waypoint. If using a map I see I can in fact walk back to the next junction (D) to take a similar path to C, but D is not in my GPS if I start moving along DC, will the GPS realise I am not going to go to BC and give me a relevant arrow, still to C, or will it continue to give me an arrow to B? The reason I ask is that as well of caching, I do a lot of cycling and if I were to plan a route into Google Earth, but I accidentally put the point on the wrong side of the road, would my GPS intend me to cycle over the exact spot before it would route me to the next one? I appologise for the long & confusing post - I will draw a map with ABCD on, so people can see what I mean, if you'd like? Cheers. S
  8. I'd love to buy a quantity of RNLI ones - a really worthwhile cause - anyone got any plans to mint any? S
  9. Speaking as a keen but not very experienced walker, I have done a 15mile section of the South Downs over two days (Duke Of Edinburgh) I can say that it's very undulating! For this walk we were carrying heavy packs - avoid this at all costs; it really does affect both your balance and stamina. I'll be following this thread with interest - I'd like to do this walk but don't think I'd be able to manage it - I may try a smaller walk for charity. S
  10. New one for me - Just Server Unavailable. No sick Signal any more S
  11. Glad I didn't process my PM last night - was thinking about it. Will have to wait until it's back online - annoying as I was planning a caching trip today.... S
  12. I'm not 100% on this, but I don't think the Tritons use an industry standard cable - I think it is a proprietary one. S
  13. Hmmm... I guess we'll have to see. UK Online stores have them ready to go, too. My bets is that they are ready to be dispatched but they've discovered a s'ware problem and are having to re-flash them all! S
  14. Guys, What's the likelihood of these arriving on UK shores before Christmas, do we think? If it's slim, then I'll be looking at another cheap-ish model, but I really would like these features at this price (e.g. under £150 for a decent spec'd one!) S
  15. Where in South Essex were you intending? Could well be up for it. SB
  16. Hi Guys. I'm a newbie cacher, and live around 5 miles from Epping Forest. From looking on the various tools on this site, it would seem there are a large quantity around this area - does anyone have any favourites? How do people find the Epping tree cover affects the GPSs? S
  17. Could a moderator please fix the other one, it semi-posted, but nothing is there...? Ta S
  18. Hi Guys, Newbie looking for a cheap Etrex GPS. Any variant is OK. Ideally to be complete with a data cable, but not 100% necessary. Not fussed if you don't have manual, box etc. The unit must be in the UK. Can do Paypal or cheque. Cheers S
