This resolved the issue for me. Holding the phone upright feels wrong, but it works. I have been dealing with this for almost a year and would have never discovered this simple fix on my own thank you everyone who posted this fix

This issue has returned with the recent app update. Using iPhone se big problem initial reading will be correct, but as you move and location is updated, the direction is sporadic. Location on map is updated correctly setting for compass is set as shown above. Apple compass works as expected

Same issue. Has anyone found a work around?
