  1. Sorry I don't have a pic available. Out in the deserts of New Mexico I passed a typical road sign for "cattle", but someone had put a UFO sticker up at the top with lines coming down like picking up the cow. Pretty funny. Of course, this is the same area where there are a lot of reports of cattle mutilations. Maybe the aliens themselves left it. Vinny? You opinion?
  2. I seriously doubt the 66,000 number as well, although I don't doubt they could be had a great price. Ammo cans can be bought by the pallet load for a few bucks (meaning just pennies per can) if no one else is bidding against you. So the decon kits could be quite a steal if findable at a DRMO sale. I have a few decon kit hides without any problems, but I will probably change them out with better cammo'd containers this year.
  3. OMG, are you SERIOUS? THIS has to be another trolling post right? 1- Yes, I am a parent. If my son ever acted like this in public (and this is a public place) I would bust his (backside) and make him perform all kinds of manual labor projects while being grounded for the next month or so. 2- you are not defending someone with poor vocabulary, you defending a child who is refusing to use the proper vocabulary, syntax or spelling that our tax dollars are paying for from his school. 3- If anyone takes the attitude towards geocaching as Crab Soul has towards this forum, it would be a sad, sad day. 4- Many, Many people have tried to help this kid out, and he has bitten the hands that try to feeed him. What else do you expect? Yeah, I want to see lots more from this 12 year old saying "MEOW" and "SHUTZ UPZ" I'm done. You want him, you talk responsibility for him. I personally think he deserves a couple weeks of "time out".
  4. No, this is NOT a dodge. The status quo has existed for a very long time. Apparently the vast majority of players are happy with the status quo. Nothing should be changed, simply for change. That would bring about chaos. A valid reason must be articulated as a REASON FOR THE CHANGE, to bring it to fruition. For you to claim that there must be a valid reason (other than what has been proven already) to maintain the status quo, is to participate in said "dodge".
  5. Since you are calling out MY comments (without naming me I will add), I will respond to this post. I see that you are skewing things based on your own preconcieved notions. I called the "kid" a troll based on his first half dozen or so posts on this forum. The comments were aimed only at his behavior. If you will go and re-read that thread (although I agree with it's OP that it should be left to die) you will see that I called up NOT his "find count" but his complete lack of ever even attempting the sport of geocaching prior to his comments here. This was also done at the end of the thread after comments from others that he wasn't a troll. This "kid" has also gone on to post much more intelligent comments and questions as a result, and has even begun learning what geocaching is really about. There are an overwhelming majority of geocachers who never step foot in this forum. They have more of a life that us most likely. I have never seen in the few years I have been here anyone saying to the effect of "I have more finds than you, so your opinion doesn't matter". Yet this concept of such buffoonery is constantly being talked about. Has it happened before? I'm sure it has, but it's extremely low frequency makes it a non-issue.
  6. soooo, this thread would be about the bad luck of leaving port on a Friday, or doing anything on Friday the 13th? I agree that this thread has NOTHING to do with geocaching, but it is just plain stupid to make a 25 mile boat trip, across open water in a john boat, on ANY day of the week. Those things can't handle large waves on a LAKE let alone weather spinning up on the open water.
  7. Sorry, but no. The uploading of your finds to your computer is more for you own record keeping. Personally, I never bother with it. To "log" your finds online, you will have to revist each cache page and click the "log" button on the upper right. If you want to keep your own stats of finds, I recommend downloading the "add to que" pocket query (if you are a premium member) then loading that into GSAK or uploading to "itsnotabouthenumbers".
  8. Crab soul, I will echo what briansnat said. I started off with an Etrex. It was a great little unit, but the time it took to manually load every cache got old real quick. I bought the serial cable, but had trouble with that. From the excellent reviews I have read about the HC, it's sounds like a great starter unit.
  9. have they abandoned grammar in afrikaans? Dang it, I wanted to respond to you in Afrikaans, but all I can remember at the moment is: "Slaap lekker, Ek saal yay in de morrow seen". And I know I miss-spelled a lot of that! And moto momma, it is BOERISH. It is a British word that comes from South Afrika. During the British rule in the early days, they hired Dutch workers. They were called Boers (pronounced BOO-ERS) They looked down on the them as being rude, crude, uneducated, and a lot of other words. So when talking about bad behavior, it was said to be "boerish". So there you have it.
  10. No crab soul. again you miss the point. You came onto this board talking about how "illegal" this new type of caching would be and that it was coming regardless of what we wanted. You came across as rude and demanding. When people responded to your OP, you replied with more of the same. "screw what you want, this is underground and illegal and it cool and everybody wants it." That was a paraphrase, not a direct quote. Among this bad behavior was the horible spelling and grammer. When that was mentioned, you became even more beligerent. So, the ball is in your court. Feel free to do some real geocaching or not. Feel free to ask question ans post ideas. Just do it in a respectful manner. We are adults here, and we try to act like it (most of the time).
  11. Really? So it doesn't bother you at all that a person, who has neither hidden or found a single cache, has no plans to ever do so, and is advocating a hobby of illegel breaking and entering of buildings, just spouts off what ever they want here? I thought this was a forum about the different permutations of geocaching. As for the tar-and feather treatment, I was even willing to extend the hand of help, but he has bitten the hand of many others in this very thread. He is here strictly to stir the pot and gain attention for himself. A classic troll. Personally, I think he has been reather well treated to this point. I can think of many different messages he would recieve on other boards.
  12. Without even looking up the cache page, was that a Darkmoon cache?
  13. No, Crab soul. No body here gives a dadgum if you are dyslexic, ADD or anything. Quit trying to play the "victim" card. You're a punk kid who's only out looking for attention. You obviously have no interest in the hobby of geocaching. Go play in traffic. I called it from the start. Troll.
  14. Crab soul, is this cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC1DFTK Like what you had in mind? Mind you, that this cache is located in a current war zone.
  15. capital letters are sooooo 1980s.. ------- look im new to cacheing. urbex cacheing may not be for you. but alot of people want it. and its going to happen if you like it or not. ok? im just trying to get it kicked off So you are admitting that you are a noob to caching. No problem, we were all there once ourselves. You like to explore abandoned buildings and feeling like you are doing something "on the edge" and "illegal". Ok, that's YOUR thing. But since you are so new (and obviously young), how do you know exactly what SOOO many geocachers are wanting? And BTW, capitalization and punctuation are not outdated. They are signs of education and intelligence. Not saying mine is anywhere near perfect, but most people who are beyond middle school find the online use "text speech" boerish.
  16. Yes, since the old caches were loaded under the wrong datum, when you changed the datum, it mearly converted thier position numbers. The spot stayed the same. What you need to do (now that you have the correct datum) is to erase and reload all the caches. This will have them in the propper format in the propper position.
  17. I often wonder where this concept of absolutel sanctity of burial plots comes from. In our not-so-distant past, cemetaries were used as parks. People would have picnic lunches and play with thier kids there. There was nothing macabre or disrespectful thought about it. A little farther back in time, and burial space (crypts, tombs) was a premium. You had to pay to remain there. As soon as family stopped paying for that spot, they hauled YOUR bones out and a new paying "customer" was put it. And now people think it's wrong to walk through a cemetary becuase you might step on the ground that someone is buried 6 feet under. In some of my research I have found entire cemetaries that were forgotten and then turned into farm fields. It's just ground after all.
  18. If you are getting consistant distance and direction errors, then it sounds like you have the wrong map datum selected. It should be set to WGS84.
  19. if you dont like it. then dont read the post maby? I'm just calling a troll a troll. Maybe you should find some caches before telling about how great they would be in your urban decay.
  20. On most of my caches, I leave a FTF prize, some I don't. On my "luck #13" cache I left 13 $1 bills for the FTF. I have decided to start leaving handmade items for my future caches. I had plans to create the ultimate 5/5 multi with a spectacular prize, but all the places I wanted to leave stages have been filled with micros in the woods (another thread all together). I'm currently working on trying a new approach. Hey Jamguys, I have one of your signature nickels in my collection! I already have my own on order and they should be waiting at the house when I get back home in a couple months.
  21. Would you kindly shut up already? Your only posts on this site have been in this thread, and every one of them is about how "underground" and "illegal" it is to "urbex". People have repsonded to your orginal post, but you keep coming back like a broken record. If you want to geocache, then geocache. That's what this site is for.
  22. Here in Iraq, I've had a few 1/1 that eluded me like trigonometry. I went for as many caches as I could when I first got in country (before getting shipped out to a FOB). There were several "easy" ones that I just couldn't find. Every time I get back to the base I go searching for them again. Every time the logs in between were filled with new cachers saying things like: "My very first geocache". But through persistance I have finally nailed 2 of them down. The one lesson I have learned; Just becuase I looked there once, doesn't mean the cache isn't in there.
  23. There is an easy way to do all that. First, become a paying "premium" member so that you can download pocket queries. This lets you get batches of caches in an area instead of one at time. Next, download "GSAK" which lets you sort the caches by any attribute you want; container size, terrain, difficulty, distance from your home coordinates, etc. Frankly, I'm surprised that you would abandon what many consider a great family outdoor hobby becuase of mistakes YOU made. The game didn't cause you to those things, you did. To clarify one thing for you though, the GPS will ALWAYS jump around the ground zero area. Once you get yo within the last 20 or so feet it's time to put away the GPS and start hunting for what's out of the ordinary. Also, You might want to make your first hunts for regular and small size caches. Micros and nanos might be a very discouraging start for you.
  24. If you do decide to upgrade, I'll take that old junker of a 60csx off your hands for $10. I mean, you wouldnt want that old old thing cluttering up your caching drawer. That would just be tacky. Shoot me a pm when ready to dispose of it.
