I submitted a request when I first saw the promo, but as others, I haven't received anything yet. I would hope that they make more of them available, and make them available for purchase because they are beautiful coins!

I like to name them based on a twist about the location. Not always too creative, but I have one hidden in "Century Bank Park", that I named "Cache of the Century". I have another one named "Don't feed the Bears" located close to Blackbear Creek. Another is hidden in a tiny town called Kremlin, so I named the cache "from Russia with love". I like to find caches named like that. Once you find it, you go..."Ohhhh, I get it." I have found that most cache hiders are pretty creative.

LOL, absent geocacher here! First time back in since I got home from Iraq over a year ago. Life gets in the way. I had exhausted all my local caches, then fuel costs and time involved prevented me from making long trips cache hunting. Multiple jobs putting a kid through college made sure I had more than enough to keep me busy in town. I am about to make a long road trip and logged in to start routing a few caches along the way and at my destination.

I remember seeing on the Garmin website lastyear that once you had one of the Map sets loaded, you could download a free program that would turn your laptop into a full-mapset voice-direction gps when connected to your handheld gps unit. Now that I am back home I want to install this but I can't find it listed anywhere. Does anyone know where it is or if Garmin discontinued this?

I can't help you with any "must do" caches. If you are planning on following Rt 66, there will be more caches than you could possibly find in one trip. I would suggest loading a route PQ and reviewing all the caches along the way to see which ones you really want to go after.

I will admit that when I started caching I was guilty of leaving the "TFTC" as the only log. It's what I saw on the previous logs, so that what I used for all mine. It seems that the more I cache, the longer my logs become. After placing my own caches, I began to truly appreciate those cachers who take the time to write at least a few sentences for my caches.

wooden-nickel.com makes some great looking nickels for geocaching. They have some of the past customer's designs up that you can look at as well. You can have a custom logo put on it that really makes it "yours".

Yes, I have started seeing this too. It's ticking me off quite a bit. It take a good 5 to 10 minutes to get that map to load up (on the typically overloaded servers in Iraq), and then that crap comes up. Somebody at google needs a swift kick in the head.

Naw, I don't think you can commit geocide without any finds or hides. IF the OP is still reading his own thread.... Don't give up. If they were all really that easy, not many people would be playing this game. Many cachers camoflage and hide the container as well as possible, simply to prevent it from "walking off". This also makes it that much harder to find for us. Don't give up yet. There is a brand new cache about 5 miles from me. I have been looking for it 4 times already. I have spent hours looking for this one cache. The CO even told me what it is and where it was hidden. I went there today and STILL couldnt find it. But I don't get mad, I just keeping looking until I find it.

I don't think there is any way to cause the coords to come up automatically in a different format. To do that, you would need to go with a secondary program, and load pocket queries into it. On th eother hand, I like your avatar and name. I got started on smoking shisha over here in Iraq. Sadly I had to pack mine away for shipping and I can't smoke until I get back home.

You need to think this through. What size cache are you wanting to place? How is the finder supposed to retrieve it to sign the log? Ar you wanting a waterproof container? How are you going to ensure it stays waterproof? What are the results of the seal failing or a lazy cacher not securing the lid properly. Is this going to be in an area where boaters frequent (causing a navigational hazard), or will this be in an area where frequent swimmers would find it by accident? Just a few things to consider before getting to the final step of anchoring.

On the other hand I know of some COs that would be rude and snarky and put people they don't like on the "zeroize" list just to feel mor epowerful to themselves. It sounds like the community is doing a decent job of self policing. Now if we could just get TPTB to let cachers adopt caches from owners who stopping monitoring them, things would be even better.

I geocache to get away from the computer. I really don't want any form of real-time, interactive, multi-player game. I only get online when I can't be outside.

Without being able to know which caches you are talking about, it's hard to say. Give us the GCID of one that you are talking about first.

I like to leave things that are unique from me, or generally usable by many people. I just had my own personal wooden nickels created to leave behind, and I collect ones from other cachers. I also like to leave things like small first aid kits, emergency ponchos, or small toys that are new in the wrapper for the kiddos. I am getting ready to start making handmade landyards as another signature item I can leave behind or as a FTF prize.

I feel the same as many of the others here. It's YOUR cache, and YOUR listing. If you want to keep the size a secret to make the cache a little bit harder, then that's fine. Please make sure the cache is listed as an unknown size if you do. If you feel the spoiler log gives away too much, delete it and send the finder an email stating why it was removed and that he/she is welcome to re-log the find without the giveaway.

Congrats on finding you first caches. I still remember the details of the first one I found several years ago. This is a great hobby! You may see a lot of parking lots and guardrails, but will also see a lot of cool places that you would have never known about if you weren't hunting fo the cache there. I agree completely with your sentiment about being "connected" to people and places through geocaching. Last year I got a notice that a person had picked up one of my geocoins from a cache in the states. I said "Hey! I know that name!" I went back to the last cache I had found here in Iraq and sure enough, there was his log for the same cache find. I contacted the cacher, and we exchanged a few emails. Turns out he is also a scuba diver, and has lived in my hometown before. Small world. Good luck in your geocaching, it's addictive!

There is a cache on a base here in Baghdad that has been haunting me for almost a year now. I have gone to get it several times, and each time I have walked away before attempting to get to ground zero. The cache is a camo-ed chapstick tune, hidden in the rock face of a bridge over a canal. The only way to get to it is to balance along an old conduit pipe, over the water, under the active bridge. I plan on getting it before I leave the country though. My biggest fear is falling and losing a weapon in the water. I don't think I could ever explain my way out of that.

You know whats odd? I've heard this same sentiment so much lately! I can't remember where else I've seen it though. It has come up so much though, that I wonder if an occult hand has reached down from above, moving players like pawns on a chess board, with the purpose of orchestrating a sinister conspiracy, one designed to flood our minds with unreasonable and irrational fear.
