  1. there's a cache near me that has been up and running for a year and a half. as you can see, lots of houses around so stealth is required. i thought it was a nice hide. the hider just put notes on the cache page to park on the street and "ITS NOT IN THE FLOWER GARDEN" so people won't tear up their flower garden. i guess he meets a lot of cachers that way too. could be fun!
  2. go to your "my account details" page (you can get there by clicking on your username in the top right corner of any geocaching page). along the right side of the page, look for "account options" and click on "edit my profile". scroll down. er, i'm not sure what yours will say, because i have a picture already listed, but under "profile details" there should be a spot to upload something from your computer as "your photo" which will be listed as your profile pic. hope that helps...
  3. still getting the hang of this, but should you log your own waymarks? will your created waymarks show up on the stat page in the future? not that stats really matter all that much . but since there's a stat page, wouldn't waymarks created go on the stat page?
  4. i have to agree that trying to fit the terminology and understanding of geocaching into the new Waymarking game is somewhat confusing. i think it'd be easier if we weren't taking the baggage of familiarity with geocaching! clean slate, old habits die hard, and all that jazz. please let me know if i am understanding this correctly. waymark categories list... well, categories. pretty simple. within those categories are waymarks. it almost feels like you are logging a locationless cache when you are creating a waymark. in reality, when you create a waymark, you are creating the "equivalent" of a cache. people will see this waymark and log it (small aside: is it bad form, then, to log your own waymark?). so... it's almost like waymark categories are locationless cache equivalents, but when you create a waymark, other people go to log it afterwards as if it was a virtual. i am aware that Waymarking is not geocaching, i am just trying to make sure i understand Waymarking and using the former terminology of gc.com just gives us a common point of reference. or confuses the heck out of us...
  5. well... i have to say that learning how to navigate Waymarking.com, after being used to geocaching.com, has taken some getting used to. at first glance i was way turned off by Waymarking. i came back to try it out again last week and, after playing around with it a bit, it's started to grow on me a little. i'm still learning my way around. there's no reason to rush to judgment on this and cancel your premium membership. it'll take a little time before it's as solid as gc.com, i think. as more waypoints are entered, more categories are entered, and details are fleshed out i think it'll turn out okay. it's hard to get excited about it when there's little or nothing in your area. check out some of the more popular categories and go submit a couple waymarks.
  6. or if you use GSAK you can use the filter to only display certain size containers.
  7. ack! okay. thanks, jeremy.
  8. thanks for the reply, but it doesn't appear to be a server timeout. i have tried it at different times of day, different days of the week with the same result. additionally, i was able to edit one of my other caches moments before. i'll try it again in the middle of the week though if i don't hear anything else. thanks, tgps.
  9. i have a problem when trying to edit one of my cache listings. i have tried doing it at several different times, on different computers, different web browsers. can someone help me out? this is the error i get: thing is... i am trying to make my cache listing a bit shorter. only happens when i try to edit GCKTPK. i just successfully edited one of my other caches... any help would be appreciated. thanks! edit: clarity
  10. If you wanted to keep people from doing things that *might* get someone sued, no one would ever get out of bed. Ever. And even then, someone would try suing Sleepy's for selling such comfortable beds that lead to bed sores. p.s. As a side note, the McDonald's lawsuit you're referring to was actually a lot more substantial than that. That "sued because their coffee is hot" line is just the oversimplified hype that ended up being circulated by everyone. right. on appeal, the reward was $480,000 (McFacts about the McDonald's case). here's what i do: -place caches that are reasonable, though admittedly i don't have any of those fun, creative urban hides. -seek caches that are reasonable. if i am begin seeking a cache and it seems unsafe for whatever reason, i'll stop the search and either log a DNF or a note. if i came across one that seemed downright dangerous, i'd post a SBA. everything else... well, i guess i'm at as much risk for a lawsuit as i am every time i get into my car. tossedsalad, the reason you can't find any info on a members only cache is because you have to be a premium member... you aren't given info on the cache because it's not available for you to search as a non-premium member.
  11. there are some cachers who might really enjoy it. hope i don't dissuade you from placing what might be a really great multi! shoot, compared to kalamazoo, holland could use some more caches. there may be some holland area cachers out there just dying for a nice involved multi... if you read some of the logs from the cache which i linked to above, you'll see that some people really enjoyed it. 18 stages, enough math and lots of driving sound like too much of a chore for me to tackle that one right now. maybe you could get out with a cacher from the area and hit some and get a feel for caching in the snow. one tool that i find invaluable is a trekking pole to poke poke poke in the snow. if you decide to place it, good luck!
  12. winter caching takes some getting used to, for sure. it makes it a different game, but over-involved multi caches don't really float my boat. last winter a local cacher put out a multi that involved getting numbers off of utility poles, doing math, and moving on to the next location. i gave up after about 3. of course utility poles are not parks but, apparently, completing the cache took about 75 miles to complete, and on icy roads that isn't my cup of tea. IMHO, the park idea would be nice if it didn't have a huge number of stages. i like multis but if i have to go to more than 5 stages and it involves a lot of driving, i probably won't do it or will take a long time to complete it. a local cacher has one out similar to what i think you are describing: A Tour of Kalamazoo City Parks I'll never do that one because it's just too much. i've been to all those parks for other caches, but completing this one would be too much back and forth. seven people have done it, so there may be some interest, but if it's too involved, i wouldn't expect much traffic.
  13. god grant me the serenity to accept the things i cannot change; courage to change the things i can; and wisdom to know the difference. i think it's a shady thing to do for someone to log something they have not found, especially if it affects me (e.g. driving a long way to find something that is not there). i wouldn't do it. would someone else? sure. would i be upset? sure. would i get over it? sure. in the grand scheme of things, that won't affect my overall geocaching experience. if the cache sounds good enough for me to drive a long way to find it, chances are i'll enjoy the search even with a DNF. i don't put any energy into trying to find out if people's finds are legitimate or not. it upsets me if someone cuts in front of me in a construction zone by driving in the merging lane. i wouldn't do it, it's discourteous for them to do it. if they do it, it's done. i'll keep driving my own way and still get to my destination. i just may curse a little on the way there, but i can feel good about the way that i went about following my idea of courteous driving. as far as status goes, i have stopped really paying attention to find counts too much. i like keeping track of mine and even check poobah every so often to see where i am in the state "rankings". as far as other cacher's find counts, i don't pay attention too much unless, like some other people have said, i know them. that way we can celebrate milestones. when a person with 10 finds enjoys one of my caches i am just as tickled as when one of the top number teams enjoys it.
  14. thanks for the info! that is totally cool. my work sometimes involves helping visually impaired people with their computers, so i am aware that Jaws can have problems reading webpages... including the one that my employer requires people to use to register their computers i am frustrated that the guy who wrote the registration page won't fix it. glad to hear both that TPTB are cleaning things up and also that they are workin' on fixing things that come up as a result of implementing the new features.

    What About

if it's such a good idea to rate caches and cachers, use your terracaching account. i see you haven't placed your 51 leg multi yet. haven't found, placed, or rated any caches over in tc.com... why request it here? it is kind of fun to troll around instead though...
  16. by handicap compatible, do you mean that Jaws won't read it? section 508 is for US federal agencies, but it would be nice for the website to work with software for low-vision people. are there low-vision or blind cachers? i am continually amazed by some of the people who cache with disabilities...
  17. the current mcdonald's mctoys are pretty popular with a lot of the adult cachers out there. we'll take them from the kids!! more neopets, please!
  18. LOL @ wisconsin phenomenon! i've never heard of "voice of america." i read the subject line and thought someone with broken english started a thread...
  19. not my cache, not my log, but this log on Bill and Gary's Excellent Adventure gave me warm fuzzies when i read it.
  20. This is what happened yesterday Banned. Was actually responsible for at least an hour out of my life. But what an hour it was to watch! Apology accepted.
