  1. I called the 800 # for Garmin and the guy there was super nice and helped me download the map program I needed and shows me how to send the geocaches to the GPS. It's ready to go now and so is my son. Oh the only thing the guy couldn't tell me was how to delete that awful windows 8 and go back to something I can actually use!!!! Lol
  2. It's been a couple of years since I went geocaching and I want to start again since my kids are now interested. I tried to add some geocaches to my Garmin venture h. But I can't get the computer to recognize that the device is plugged in. I think I have down loaded all of the software from the Garmin site but I don't know what else to do. Can anyone give me any suggestions? I now have windows 8. My 5 yr old is having fits to go find more and the iPhone just doesn't seem to get us to the right spot.please help!
  3. I was doing everything right, and I did read the tutorials, but I still couldn't see the icons, but I pulled up my profile a different way and I was able to see them. Thanks for everyones help!
  4. I see an icon on some beside the owners name and he actually told me that I would see them beside my name. Do I have to do anything other than put in the tracking number and the date and then submit?
  5. Hi! I "discovered" some coins last night at a geocachers get together and I'm logging them now. How do I get the different icons to show on my profile? All i'm seeing is just a generic icon.
  6. thanks!! that answered all my questions!! Dawn
  7. Can someone answer a couple of questions for a newbie? I want to get a GPS for Christmas, but I'm not familiar with the units. I've done alot of letterboxing and I've found some of the easier geocaches without a GPS, but it's time to move up a little! 1. is a card necessary if the unit has 24 mb of memory? what is the card used for other than memory. 2. what is a card reader? 3. if a unit holds 500 waypoints, is that like 500 caches or is each cache more than one waypoint? TIA for any info. Dawn

  9. I haven't done that much geocaching yet becuase I don't have a GPS yet (please Santa!), but I've done alot of letterboxing which is the same idea. I take my 5 yr old and my 3 month old. Of course we don't go alone after dark, we don't go places that look "iffy" and we don't go through woods and tall grass in summer, but if your 13 yr old goes with someone else and is careful, it's alot of fun. I guess the biggest think is to be aware of your surroundings. and use common sense. We spent all day Saturday letterboxing in the mountains and it was a very fun day for me, my husband and our 5 yr old. We spent the whole day together as a family and we were outside. No TV or video games. Lots of sunshine and excercise! Can't wait to get a GPS so I can find more! dawn
  10. where do you get cachemate?
  11. Yes, this is Florence SC. I wasn't thinking that Alabama would be in this group also. Sorry!
  12. hello! I was hoping to find some others in the Florence or surrounding area. Dawn
