I had to basically freehand the GPS, because I don't know where to get an image of a cartoon Garmin Legend. Maybe someone else could add a better GPS. I think the entire contest is centered around Jeeps and Geocaching. Therefore, you want some of both in the picture. Since the contest has to do with the TBs, I'm assuming that the TB should be the Jeep that is in the picture. I'm sure many people will take pictures with the TB and their jeep, but it might not be as wise to do the same with the TB and another brand of vehicle. I don't know any of that for sure, but I would be willing to bet that those are the types of pictures the judges will be looking for. McWeb

Well, I know this doesn't compare to some people's bragging in here, but it's cool for me. Today is the 1 year anniversary of finding my first cache. A couple of days ago I hit 50 finds. I know 50 finds in a year is not a lot, but I'm still going to brag. McWeb

I think it sounds like fun, but I agree that some limits must be set. You might also consider adding hints to the Waldos locations. Nothing too obvious, but something that might help out someone who wants to search for that cache in particular. McWeb

I would love a new avitar. I'm not at all good with graphics, so I just used a clipart I found. No rush, just when you have time, if you feel like it. Info: name: McWeb : derivied from part of my last name (Mc) and part of my maiden name (Web). I would love something coresponding to geocaching. I was also in the Air Force for 6 years and worked on F-15s. I'm now an Air Force dependent who is attending school (going into radiology). I live in Texas, but I'm originally from Utah. If you think of anything cool to do with any of that I would greatly appreciate it. I think I would like to see something combining my Air Force experience with geocaching. I think somewhere I read that the date for release of the YJTBs was June 1st. Since there has been a delay, does that mean there is a new date for release, or are organizations just going to release them as they receive them? I'm excited to start hunting these new TBs and just wanted to know when to start looking. McWeb

My dad (candleman)was given a GPS for his job, and discovered the webpage. He told me about it and I started caching. I've now gotten my husband (Umac13) into it, but sometimes I have to drag him out. He's not as addicted as me. I only wish there were more caches closer to my home. We have to drive 1 to 2 hours to get to most caches. There are some around where we live, but we have found most of them. I'm headed to Utah tomorrow, and I'm so excited to be able to find more caches!!! McWeb

This is my geotoken (top is the front, bottom is the back). I made them on the computer and laminated them. I've recently started placing them in all the caches I find (at least the physical ones that are big enough). I want to make a coin, but don't have the funds for that yet. McWeb

I think you have every right to feel however you feel. No one can tell you how to feel. You are the only person who can determine that. I do feel that a lot of people jumped to a lot of conclusions in the post (some wrong, some right), but in the end everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think most of the people that are "attacking" BS are simply trying to defend a TB owner who is not here to defend him/herself. Maybe there are good reasons for the TB and maybe there are not, but this issue will not be resolved in the forums. Those who believe one way will not convince those who believe the other to change their beliefs, feelings, and opinions on this topic. Earlier I argued that no one knows the exact enlistment/duties of the uncle, or the exact representation of the TB. I will also argue that no one whose country was not dramatically affected by the travesties of the SS and Nazi party can possible know what it's like, or how they would act or feel in the same situation you are in. Many (including myself) like to think we know how we would react, but there is no way to know that for sure unless you have been there and lived it.

Please read: Source Hints: ...outset of the war... ...joined... ...like many military members in my family, went into infantry.... Yes, you may ASSUME that, but many other factors may be involved. I'm not defending this TB, or the uncle in anyway. Just pointing out that we do not know the circumstances. Maybe in your opinion these things you listed mean he voluntarily joined and had no pressure from family, govt, or other sources. That he wanted to kill people, believed in the 3rd Reich, and loved Hitler. All these things MAY be true, but we DO NOT KNOW this. I'm just trying to point out that it is easy to make assumptions on information that doesn't tell the whole story.

It makes a world of difference. Trying to equate Waffen SS soldiers to the victims of Nazi tyranny trivializes the Holocaust. Sorry, but "we are all victims" doesn't wash when you are Gestapo or Waffen SS and are running the horror show. At a minimum, ask for a transfer to a combat unit. I didn't mean to imply that everyone was a victim. Just that the side of the conflict doesn't matter if their feelings were against the war and the person was not there because he chose to be. Take for example, a muslim in the U.S. military who is currently fighting in Iraq. He may or may not agree with the reasons for the war, and may not even want to fight the war. However, he has given his oath to follow the commands of the officers appointed over him, and therefore is doing that. It may not be a perfect example, but it kind of shows what I meant.

You made my point entirely for me. The people of this forum do not have the information about this man, and they don't have all the information about the TB owner's uncle. We do not know if he served voluntarily or because he was expected, forced, or otherwise made to serve in the SS. We don't know if he agreed with killing innocent people in horrible ways, or if he actually killed anyone. We don't know if he seved as medic or as a doctor or just had some medical training. We also don't know what the purpose of this TBs goal is. Maybe the owner just wanted to remember the past (much like the half a million visitors that go to Auschwitz every year). Maybe he was trying to raise awareness that not everyone on the German's side was bad, or maybe he wanted to show that even though his uncle fought for the Germans, his family still loved and honored his memory. The point I'm trying to make is: not enough information is given to come to a conlusion about the explicit meaning behind this bug. Everyone can form their own opinion; however, there is no way of knowing until the TB owner decides to explain some of his reasons, and that may never happen. McWeb P.S. I shouldn't even get involved in this post, but I have a question for those who have been actively following and participating in this forum. I met someone who was at Auschwitz during the war. He did not want to be there, but had no choice. He would have been killed if he didn't do the duties assigned to him. These duties included pulling dead bodies from the gas chamber and stacking them on carts to be taken away. He also took anything of value from these bodies, including watches, gold teeth, and rings (cutting off fingers to retrieve them). I'm sure that he hated every minute of it. Is he a bad person just because he did these things? I'd like to know what the people in this forum think about this man. McWeb

I read these logs and the logs of the others in the party. It sounds like quite the experience, but since all the logs are contradictory, it can't all be true. I wonder what the true story is for this groups unfortunate caching experience. I was laughing the whole time, hoping that it was just exaggerated. I'm suprised they all made it out alive by the way they made it sound. McWeb

I agree that some geocoins are collectable, but some are meant to be TBs. USA and CA geocoins are trackable on geocaching.com and can be given a goal. Anyone can purchase one of these types of coins; therefore, people are not dependent on finding them in a cache. On the other hand, personal geocoins and geotokens are not trackable on geocaching.com (except Moun10bike's) and you have to find them (or know the owner) to get you hands on one. My personal view: I have a geotoken that I place in every cache. It is only a homemade signature item, but my purpose in making it was to leave my mark. They have no specific goal, and if someone wants to keep one that is fine with me. When I leave these behind, and I don't think I could claim ownership of it in the future. I guess if someone wanted to sell it they could try (I doubt they would get any money for it). I don't know why anyone would want to buy my signature item, or anyone else's, because the purpose I see for collecting them is to show that you earned a really cool trinket from your efforts in geocaching. Example: I collect Hard Rock Cafe pins. I buy one each time I go to a new HRC. I really like my collection, but I wouldn't want someone else to go to a HRC and buy a pin for me, because it doesn't have the same meaning to me. My collection is my way of knowing and remembering some neat places I've been. Maybe I've made a point, maybe I'm just rambling now, but that's my 2 cents. McWeb edit: left out an I
