  1. I'm posting this here because it relates to travel bugs but perhaps it is better for the web site forum. It probably has been asked already but I really don't want to scroll through pages of threads to find the answer to my question. Anyway, I just published a Travel Bug Rest Stop (GC22XHD, check it out! I'm pretty happy with it) and the FTF noted that he left a bug in the cache. When I went to check out the history I noticed that the link that allows you to look at the history of the bugs in a cache is no longer an option. Is this true, or am I missing something? Did this occur during the recent "update" and was it intentional? If it was intentional, why? I'm sorry but I really liked this feature and if it was made to go away I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same way I do and if there is a chance it will be brought back given enough pressure from us. Thanks FM
  2. I was actually going to post a new thread on the forums when I saw this one. Does anyone know if there are any restrictions on cache placements in Flowing Lake Park in Snohomish County? There are currently no caches placed in that park and I was wondering if it was because of restrictions placed byt ht epark manager or or ranger. Thanks
  3. Did anyone see this tonight on the KING 5 news? I'm just curious who the geocacher was, I mean her geocaching name, not her real name.
  4. I don't know exactly when this started but somehow, the forums have gone from a setting of being able to scroll down and view all of the posts in a thread at once to viewing a single pane and then having a tree of the other posts in the thread below the pane in th ethread I am curretnly reading. I much prefer the scroll through option. Is this a setting chagne that I somehow switched on inadvertantly without noticing it or did the way the viewer is able to look at thtread change unbeknonst to me? If I can, I'd like to switch it back to the scrolable viewing method, can anyone tell me how to do it? Thanks
  5. The posted coordinates for that one have not kept up with where the cache is. So is the cache still up there, or does FN still have it? I am heading up to B-Ham tomorrow and would love to find and move this cache.
  6. Thank you _Shaddow_ perhaps now you understand where my frustration was coming from even if it doesn't change your opinion of what was said.
  7. the problem with this line of thinking is that your actions do have an impact on others regardless if you realize it, disagree or just don't care. By going into a park after hours, looking for a geocache, you are representing the entire geocaching community. When the park ranger, camp host, cop or neighbor who owns a home across the street from the park that you have just tresapssed on after hours, catches you they immediately develop an opinion that ALL geocachers must be that way. Even if they don't think that we are all that way most, or even some is bad enough in their minds. People who live near these areas and the people whose job it is to enforce the rules of said parks don't care if you are alone. They figure if your like that then there are probably others and they would be right in that sumation. When you speed to a cache, or any other location you are on your own at that point, but the second you break out your flashlight and start rooting around in shrubs looking for a cache or bushwhacking through forests on the way to a cache because you can't see the trail that would be obvious in the day light, you are casting a bad light on all of us. And if you've driven 20+ miles to the cache only to discover that the cache is in a park that is closed after dusk, get a clue. Almost all parks are closed once the sun goes down so it would be best for you to just stay home, set your alarm for an hour before sunrise and look for the cache once the park opens.
  8. My goal right now is to reach 2000 caches by the end of the year. Today I am just over 250 caches away but I hope tgo get much closer before the end of the month. I'd liek to have less than 200 caches to find in December which is somewhat ambitious for me as I hhave never even found 150 in a month.
  9. I have to take some responsibility for this as I posted a note on Hike A Photo's cache page complaining not abouth the FTF but about the fact that our local reviewer always releases caches in the middle of the night which I believe, does not condone this behavior, but at the very least results in it because for some the drive for FTF is greater than the law. Aside from that, caching in parks after hours is wrong and I have started, before this came up, making a statement on my cache pages that cachers suspected of such would have their logs deleted and would be repoerted to Groundspeak. Cache police aside, if we don't police ourselvers then we risk losing this game that we all enjoy as business owners and land managers become aware of our rule breaking tendencies.
  10. Does anyone know why I keep getting hte error message below whenever I try editing the details of a bookmark (not a book mark list but hte bookmark itself)? I have had this problem for a few weeks if not for a month or more: Server Error in '/' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". <!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web> </configuration> Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL. <!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/> </system.web> </configuration> Thanks -FM
  11. I don't have any trouble accessing the site and I have gotten other notifications for caches that have released within a mile or two of mine since mine was published. The notification has still not gone out. I wish someone who knows why would respond to this and exlpain it.

    Notifications

This is proabably and old and tired subject but are the notifications broken? I've had a cache that published 4 hours ago and the notification has still not gone out. Only 4 people have looked at it in that time frame in this area, within half an hour of a cache publishing proably more than 20 people will have looked at it. Is there a way to force a notifcation to go out? thanks for looking into this. FM
  13. Thanks guys! I will do that right away.
  14. I've not seen this question before but I apologie if it has already been asked. I lost a bug quite a few months back. I took it from a cache and went on a road trip. When I got back from the road trip I realized that I no longer had the bug in my possesion. I didn't remeber putting it in any caches. I let the owner know that the bug was missing and that I couldn't remember putting it in any cache. I aplogized and said I was hopeful that I had put it in a cache and that it would just show up again. The owner never replied back. That was several months ago and the bug still has not been logged. The caches that I could have put the bug in has been visited mulitple times and no one has reported seeing it in the cache or grabbed it from my posession. I am sure the bug is gone for good. The bug is still on my account page. I'd like to remove it but since I don't have the tracking number I can't mark it as missing or just put it in the cache I thought I could have placed it in before. I've written to the owner twice and he has not responded. He is a premium member buthas not logged in for a few months. He seems to log in every few months to log a cache or two and then goes long periods of time of inactivity. My question is this. Is there any way for me to remove this bug from my posession or am I just going to have to wear it like an Albatross as punishment for losing the bug. Any advice or comments would be appriciated. Thanks
  15. Most of these are nature shots I'm not sur emine qualifies. Well I guess any shot not in a zoo or circus would be considered such. In any event I thought that this one walking towards me across a strip mall parking lot in Florida was somewhat unusual. I took this photo while standing less than 10 feet from the cache.
  16. Hey! Check out this DNF log on one of my caches in Downtown Snohomish. Apparently The Herald is planning on doing a write up on the Science Center exhibit and caching in general. I wrote to the poster telling them that I would be happy to talk to the reporter about my cache and explain to them that that type of hide would not be considered typical (for those oif you that have found it). It will be interesteing to see if they write back at all.
  17. Hey SD Marc, I've done a few caches down in San diego myself and you don't have it so bad down there either! In fact for quite a while my oldest found cache was San Elijo Lagoon, one that any San Diegan, native or transplant should be pround of.
  18. ...And of course as soon as I write that mine have not gone off yet all 3 generate. Thanks
  19. How long should we expect it to take? I see that Castle Mischief's Route PQ ran but the 3 that I have checked to run today still have not. I have run only one other PQ in the last 24 hours. The one I mentioned in my earlier post that ran yesterday.
  20. Please check on mine too. I am having the exact same problem. I set up 3 route PQ's yesterday and one standard and checked them all off to fire on Monday. The Standard PQ fired within 10 minutes but the route PQ's never did. I've checked off the Monday request and re-checked them for Tuesday but still haven't seen anything yet. Thanks in advance for all you do. -FM
  21. I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I have an animated gif file that I would like to put on a cache page I am designing. I tried uploading the image to the reviewers note log like I do with all of the standard jpeg's htat I am also uploading for the cache page. My intention is to then write the html as an img_src for the cache page so that when people bring it up they will see the animation. I have seen this done on other cache pages and verified in the source that is how others have done it before. The trouble that I am having is when I try to upload the animation, the file gets converted to a jpg file and then the animated picture does not show up, It is simply a balck box. Does anyone know what I migh tbe doing wrong or can you explain how to upload a gif file so that it does not get converted to a jpg? Thanks in advance for any help. -FM
  22. I would like to relay my heart felt congratulations to jcar for find number 3000! Even if I cna't figure out which cache the milestone took place on. Congratulations to an "old timer" who really plays the sport the way it should be played. Thanks also for all of your help and advice!
  23. This seems like a rather obscure problem to me but you never know. I have several bookmark lists that have more than one page. I often have trouble viewing pages after the first either by clicking on the "Next" link, the ">>" link that takes you to the last page or the actual number of the page that I am interested in viewing. Usually what happens is that the page that I am currently viewing just reloads, even though I have clicked the link to view the next page or a differenet page number. This seems to happen more often with bookmark lists that I am currently working on. Sometimes even though the count of caches on the list page is correct, a newly bookmarked cache will not show up on my list for several minutes. Has anyone else expereinced, reported or heard of this problem before? I am expereincing this problem with a bookmark list that I am working on right now so any help or comments would be apprciated. Thanks -FM
