  1. Too bad there wasn't just an open source platform for a fee so everyone could take advantage of it.
  2. The biggest destructive force to cause the rubber to come off is heat and sunlight. Never leave it in a hot car or on the dash as the adhesive will surely self destruct and cause the rubber to come loose. I speak from experience as I have reglued mine so many times now I have lost count. The thing I used that works the best is an automotive silicone glue but even after a couple of years it always seems to come loose again.
  3. I don't own one but I'm sure you can find your answer here: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/
  4. You might want to check out the local Wisconsin geocaching scene. http://www.wi-geocaching.com/
  5. For now why don't you just concentrate on finding some caches and get to know what you like and dislike. That way when you decide what would make a good experience for others then you can hide one. JMHO
  6. There is an event today where you might find some help and cachers in the area. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...db-5eb5d9c9b9a0 Also found this group: http://www.gsmgc.net/
  7. I received a reply. Basically, the OP is waiting for the highest "bidder" to give their price and will make a decision on Friday who has "won" the item. Seems to me the OP should have posted on Ebay instead of here. Didn't think this was Ebay.
  8. I'm curious as to what is being worked on. Before, when geocaching was nearly banned in SC the process was fairly transparent. Now, it seems like it is behind closed doors. I've emailed the person mentioned before about some information and relayed my involvement in the previous movement. Crickets. Now I get wind of a new requirement for Palmetto Trail caches. You pretty much call someone and hope they get back to you. Arrange a meeting with a trail volunteer--who may or may not have an anti-geocaching mentality--and then have to add a blurb to your cache page which in similar situations would have made the cache an agenda cache. Who came up with this? Oh, and what's a "distracter?" Littering the trail? Where's the self-policing that we did during the last go-round? I too would like to know what a distracter is as well. I can't imagine geocachers doing any amount of littering either so I would like some more information as to where they got that one. Sounds like more misinformation to me.
  9. Just my opinion but you might want to consider a separate handheld GPS for strictly geocaching. Would hate to drop the Nuvi. They are made specifically for the car and not rugged like the handhelds are. Don't get me wong there are plenty of people who use the Nuvi for both but I use my Nuvi for the car and the Garmin for geocaching with no regrets. I also use Pilot Snipes macro for the Nuvi for all the cache page info. Hope that helps.
  10. Congrats to our favorite reviewer GPSfun who hit the 1000 plateau and did it at Groundspeak headquarters no less. Way to go Brad and many more!!!!
  11. I'm not really sure that would be considered a move up except for the better reception. A move up would be more consistent with the Oregon or Dakota or Delorme PN-40 where they can be used for paperless caching. Maybe even consider one of the new smartphones with GPS capabilities. Just my thoughts.
  12. This site might be of some help: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/
  13. Well first off the GC's are a shortened acronym for geocoins and TB's are the same shortened acronym for Travel Bugs. As far as the maintenance is concerned it probably either needs some TLC ie, new container or a logbook but not having the GC code for the cache name I can't really tell you. I say just go for it unless it is disabled or archived. Lots of times a cache is muggled for the coins and TB's, unfortunate but it happens a lot.
  14. C'mon, I can see a road right there behind the tree. You call that hiking? Ok so it wasn't much of a hike...lol but not much diferent than about 50% of the photos that have been posted so far....
  15. This tree is in Beaufort The Forest Gump "Box of Chocolates" tree GC151CB unfortunately now archived.
  16. Yeah, I didn't refresh. You are right, thanks. Are the posted finds reviewed by someone before they appear? Does the owner of the cache do this? I want to get ten or so finds then put out my own cache. I think I've got a good spot but I'm gonna get some more experience before I set one up. Thanks for everyone's input! Don't be in such a hurry to hide your 1st cache either. Enjoy finding them for a while and get an idea of the types of caches that you think others will enjoy in your area. I'ts not unusual to find hundreds before hiding your 1st cache. Others will hide one before even finding any as well. Just make sure to read the cache hiding guidelines first and make sure permission is granted if it needs it. Here is a great article about hiding a cache. http://www.geocachingmaine.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1564
  17. Chicks are separated into male and female by chicken sexers. They hold each chick by hand up to a 300 watt bulb to determine if it is male or female (the females are kept for egg laying). A typical chicken sexer examines 1,000 chicks per hour, 80,000 per day, with 99% accuracy. (I wonder what it’s like on career day at school for their kids?) Coin looks great, glad I got to see it at the event a few weeks ago. Great Job!!!
  18. I've found more than one cache that had given me a headache while looking for it so I would have loved to have found that one...lol I think the emergency-C would have been a good find as well as it would have given me a boost of energy after looking for some of those elusive caches too...
  19. A shortened name for Just Off Exit caches. Most are off the interstates in whatever state you are caching in. Just another Acronym to add to the geocaching list of acronyms.
  20. If a firetruck,an ambulance,a police car and a mail truck all come to a 4-way intersection at the same time who has the right-of-way first? Yeah you got it,the mail truck. Any government vehicle always has the right-of-way.
  21. Is everyone using the latest Communicator Plug-in? I used it the other day and got the same error message so I checked and sure enough it wasn't the latest Plug-in. Downloaded the latest plug-in and it worked just fine after that.
  22. A lot of people will use an outside photo storage site where they can copy and paste the code to enter it onto the cache page. For myself I have always used Photobucket and they provide the HTML code that you can copy and paste onto your cache page.
