  1. I just received my renewal notice. This is a cut and paste: You can renew your subscription anytime between now and your current expiration date. If you'd like to renew early, your membership will be extended one year from your current expiration date. You will not lose any time on your remaining subscription. Just renew and you are good to go.
  2. Actually, with all the TB's and coins that seem to go missing, I am thinking that maybe puzzles and multi's are the best places to leave trackables.
  3. I always use a lanyard clipped to my belt now. My 60CSx spent 3 nights in a snowbank after I bent down and it slipped out of my chest pocket without my noticing. Another time, my wife was walking behind me while bushwacking. After we got back on the trail, she handed me my brand new PN40. The lanyard caught on a branch and I did not feel it pull out of the pocket on my winter jacket. I ALWAYS use a clipped lanyard now.
  4. I am a lone geocacher myself (except for the rest of my family team) and have not done any events or belong to a local organization. I have not been looking at archivals but in a large multi park area about 30 miles northwest of me, there are over 8 new caches a week. I wonder if some of the geocaching groups tend to archive and replace with new hides in slightly different locations to allow more finds in a smaller geographical area for the local cachers. I see nothing wrong with that. Just an observation that might answer the question.
  5. We ride bikes with the kids a lot and use the caches as a goal. It makes the bike riding interesting for the kids. When new caches come out locally, we just wait until we can get out on the bikes. On the local bike trails, we only do one or two caches at a time. This makes it easier to get the kids back out on the same old trail.
  6. I am involved with both cub and boy scouts just outside of Rochester. I have a little activity called geo-snacking. I will hide their snack and have them find it with the GPSr. Can also do multi's and puzzles. The kids enjoy the hunt as much as the snack.
  7. Check out the first few logs for TB3A00. This is currently in my possession. I have had it for awhile and I need to get it moving soon. It was released in 2002 and almost immediately went missing. It was left in the bottom of a backpack. Got moving again in 2006 and has been all over the world.
  8. I was thinking of asking this question myself, just to see what other people are doing. My take on it is we use one account. My 9 year old loves to cache but right now does not care about smileys or logs, only the hunt and occasional treasure. I also have 2 older boys who only go for the more difficult terrain types. If they ever want their own accounts, they probably would not log old finds. I think they would want to find them again on their own. I would actually look forward to going back with them.
  9. Got three boys. The oldest, 15, can't be bothered unless it is a long hike to nowheres. The 13 year old goes out every now and then. The 9 year old just loves it. I will go out and find local caches myself but wait to log until I go back out with him and the wife. He will hunt anything but likes the ammo cans the best, of course, because of the swag. We don't bother with nano's or micros too much but he has quite a nose for those. And as others have said, nothing like having a cache monkey for those hard to reach spots.
