  1. Both units now have constant Garmin splash screen. PC will not recognise either as USB drive - even tried holding the button for 5 minutes. Updater software fix doesn't work - PC doesn't see any USB devices. Oh - and GPS won't power down. Have to pull the batts to do that. Any more suggestions, anybody? And yes - I could send to Zagg for replacements. Are we covered if 3rd party appliance is at fault? And will Garmin pay for all the postage?? Didn't see you were in the UK. Postage would still be less than replacing I would guess. Maybe send an email to zagg and ask your question. I was just trying to offer a suggestion to help save you some money.
  2. I live down the street from Garmin. I think I will bring my 550T in to have them do the update since I need to bring my Nuvi in as well. I like the fact they now have a service center customers can come in off the street to. I even ran into a guy I went to college with working there the first time I went in.
  3. You can take the zagg off and send it in for a free replacement.
  4. It's in perfect condition. I've had it approximately 7 months. Selling because I just don't use it much because of weekly travel. I can send pics Shoot me an email at bb.huber@gmail.com. I'm happy to send you my phone # or call you to discuss. I would prefer to see it get more use than it is but don't mind keeping it either which is why I'm not actively trying to sell. Thanks
  5. In the near-term, we'll benefit from a stronger signal (I was seeing almost a full bar with the satellite on the horizon (other satellites in similar positions had very low signal strength). Long term and with new receivers we'll be able to make use of 2 signals instead of one. This is handy in correcting for error introduced by the ionosphere...thus improving accuracy. I can actually understand that! Thanks
  6. Can anyone explain, in simple English, what benefit this has?
  7. I enjoy my 550T. The camera takes adequate Daylight pics and on have entire US maps. Very happy with it.
  8. Except a camera!! My advice: Get a camera to be a camera, the images I've seen from the 550 demo pages are very granular. My 550T's camera takes great pictures, not granular at all! Much more convenient than lugging my Nikon D40 around.
  9. I wish I had a solution, but mine is doing the same thing.
  10. Brian I want to thank you for a great deal on this unit. It came Sat. and I have to say it looks brand spanking new. I have a thread going on how to use it now!! I will also note, I checked it for accuracy on a nearby cache I had previously found with my Garmin, and side by side, the DeLorme had a better zero on the location than the old Garmin!!! Both locked 10 satellites and the DeLorme zeroed right on the cache! +/- 3ft! My old Garmin zeroed about 18 ft away +/- 15 ft. Thanks again!!!! Sorry for the late reply. I'm glad you like it. Thanks for the smooth and easy transaction. Enjoy in good health!!
  11. FYI- All of the US Topo Map 8.0 maps are loaded on the SD card, so you already have all of topo 8.0 loaded onto the unit. Don't hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions.
  12. That's a good deal for the software. Unit is still available. Extras include 16gb SD card, & GPS case. I'll even pick up shipping if someone wants this in the next 24 hrs.
  13. I will also throw in a GPS Outfitters Micropac case with the unit. Works great! it's the solid color.
  14. I'm only selling with the unit. I will sell you the Topo 8 for $250 and throw in a free PN-40
  15. Unit has topo 7.0 and 8.0 included. I have not opened the 8.0 DVD as I loaded all the pre cut maps on the SD card so it's new from Delorme. I will inluced a 16GB SD card with the unit with maps installed. Box, papers, cable is also included. No blemishes. I would like $250 + a flat $10 for shipping and insurance for the unit. I will gladly accept paypal + actual fees. I can send pictures upon request. Selling as a package only. I will not break up. Any questions, please e-mail me, as I do not always have access to forums, or you can call me on my google voice number at any time. Thanks, Brian bb.huber@gmail.com 913-538-1765 (google Voice #)
  16. I went from using a Garmin for many years to a DeLorme PN-40, though I'm relatively new to geocaching. I like it for the ability to have aerial imagery for a modest fee, and the maps that come with it. Also, it has a dual core processor, so map redraws are very quick. It also has a multi Axis compass, which Garmin has now come out with. Not being an old time cacher, paperless is all I've known, but it is very nice having all the info at hand on the unit. I got mine from bass pro for $260 or so after a price match from walmart.com. It has it's issues at times, but for basic geocaching with the ability to do more, it's hard to beat imho. BTW, I live right down the street from Garmin, and am a loyal customer, owning a Nuvi, and Forerunner, and several other units, investing several thousand dollars with their company.
  17. This was a topic of discussion over our dinner tonight. I will be by an REI this week and may have to check one out.
  18. Thanks for saying that. A lot of people think that everyone is on forums all the time and know the do's and don'ts. I never did understand why so many people assume ( we all know what that does). As for the GPS, get what you can afford, you will end up finding a way to upgrade sooner or later if you like it.
  19. I'm just curious as we are shopping gps unit. why were you wanting to sell it? Are you replacing and if so, what model. Thanks NWArkies debe_777@yahoo.com It's a great unit. It was my backup to my Delorme PN-40. Between the 2, for ease of use the Garmin is the way to go. I just like the imagery the Delorme has to offer. The Delorme has somewhat of a learning curve to get through, though once it's mastered it is easy to use. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the garmin though.
  20. The Microcenter here in the Kansa City area has 4gb for $8.99.
  21. Some units come with maps, some do not. Units that do, command a higher price. The Oregon 400T comes with Topo for example. The Oregon 300 does not, though topo is not locked to one unit. Maps for address to address routing must be purchased for any of the handhelds, and can only be unlocked to one unit, whereas the Nuvi line comes pre loaded with the City Navigator maps. Updates must eventually be purchased for any of the mapping software if you want the latest maps available.
  22. you don't list where you are from, but there is a $20 Magellan sporttrac Map on Craigslist here in the Kansas City area. It's in box, but you have to be careful when dealing on cl. I recently sold my Colorado there.
  23. This one is sold pending receipt of funds.
