  1. My guess is the lakes don't exist in the map set. Simply compare your Colo 400T maps with the Garmin Topo 2008 online viewer Well the Topo 2008 Viewer seems to show the lakes so the version they have on the Colorado is a more striped down version of topo 2008? Funny they don't advertise the unit that way. So I should have bought a Colorado 300 and the maps on CD. Right now I run 3 map sets on my Colorado, the preinstalled topo, CN NT 2009 and Michigan Snowmobile Trails. I have the City Navigator on my SD card. In order to do this on a 300 would I simply just needed a very Large SD card? Still not sure why they wouldn't have included all the lakes.
  2. Cool, Thanks. Anyone else have any ideas why these lakes don't show up?
  3. Anyone know how to do this? I plug my GPS in and it give me a new folder. I can view my tracks just fine. I try to save them, diconnect the GPS and all I can see if my waypoints.
  4. How did I post and get so many posts. This site is crazy sometimes it acts like it will not load.
  5. Yes, I have it set to most. I had to do that to see the backroads. Otherwise I had to be zoomed in so far I couldn't tell where I was. Isn't a lake part of the land topography?

  17. This is how the area shows up on my 400T with preinstalled topos. This is how it shows in CN NT 2009 on the computor This is how it show in the old Mapsource topo USA:
  18. This is weird I have a 400t which is supposed to have the Latest topo maps already preloaded. I also own a copy of the Old Mapsource Topo USA (not 2008) and City Navigator NT 2009. CN is loaded onto the GPS. So this past week I was out snowmobiling with my 400T and I was looking for a way to get to this really small town. In this town there are a couple of lakes. Well none of the lakes show up on my GPS. So I looked at the maps on the computer. Also, City navigator 2009 does not show these lakes either. So I select my old Topo map set and sure enough the Lakes show up. So why would Garmins old Map source Topo USA show these lakes but the new topo in the Colorado does not? And in City Navigator other lakes show up but these do not. Any ides?
  19. If your happy with your Colorado I wold stick with it for a while. I am hearing very promising things about the PN-40 but the colorado larger screen, easy user interface, profile settings and so on you may not be happy with something different. If you like the colorado save you money for now.
  20. Thankk you for this . looks like the aerial could be very helpful for me off trail. i ordered the PN-40 last night , can`t wait to get it. where is a good place to get Accessories . i am looking for the travel power kit , to hard wire it to the snowmobile, did not see that at tiger GPS thanks all again I don't think you can go wrong with either. The PN-40 should be cool. I have used GPS well snowmobiling for 7 years. This is my first year with the Colorado 400T and can't believe how much nicer this is than my old smaller Garmin. The large color screen makes navigating so much easier plus it came with US topo preloaded. I think the PN-40 should be a good choice as well.
  21. I love my Colorado 400T. If you are coming from a lower end model or never owned a GPS before you will love the Colorado. If you have had a 60 CX you may not like it as well because it is different.
  22. One thing I like about topo is the fact that it shows forest roads and 2 tracks mots of the time in michigan. So if you do get lost you can see the closest road and name of it.
  23. My opinion of the new Garmin Colorado was based on a side by side comparison with a 60 series. I ran through the basics I use it for and either could not do the same thing, or it was harder, and in all cases the screen was worse to look at. In some cases a change in firmware could fix the problem (like inputting a waypoint bing a hassle, and missing map screens that I use) and in others the form factor was limiting. Based on the hype I was ready to finally upgrade my GPS V. Based on what I saw, there was nothing to upgrade too. Too many steps back, to much complexity to accomplish what I thought was basic. Like you say. If you never used the old, you wouldn't know what you are missing. However you might also be impressed by how easy some things are to do on the "yestertech". Assuming that Garmin didn't fix what they could fix with firmware. I've not taken a look recently to see if they have done this. I have used my etrex legend for 7+ years. Basic mapping, black and white screen, but did what I needed it to do to find a geocache, hunting spot, save tracks on my off trail snowmobile adventures and help me navigate back. So yes the Colorado is a huge upgrade for me and has blown me away. If you already have a 60Csx you probably didn't need to buy a new GPS anyway. I find it just as easy to use after a couple of days of playing with it. Being able to have different profiles is great.
  24. It seems Delorme has some really cool features. The Garmins have lead the way for years. There have been some compliants on some of the newer Garmin units. However, like others have mentioned a lot of it is internet hype. In other words a few people were used to something else and did not like the new, or had legitamate problems (bad units) which makes people think they are all junk. Average person like myself buys a new Garmin and is blown away with the features and performance even with the earliest firmware.
  25. I thought when you purchase the software such as Topo 2008 you can unlock the software to what ever unit you want to use with it. But once it is unlocked to that unit that is the only unit you can use it with. So someone could purchase you vista as you got it from the factory and buy what ever software they want to use with it from Garmin.
